  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 09:55 PM) But yet all he does is give the Sox good ABs. Might as well play the hot hand right now, it's not like this lineup is performing so well there aren't ABs for him to steal. He's. Had. 10. At. Bats.
  2. QUOTE (rafacosta @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) If you are going to hit a lh in the 3rd spot, at least use DJ. He has shown to have some power and patience. Dan Johnson has actually been outhit by wise the last couple years. Please stop, this level of backup qb syndrome is hard to watch. Hell, johnsons career slugging is only 20 points higher than wise and he had 2 15+ hr seasons half a decade ago.
  3. QUOTE (rafacosta @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 09:42 PM) Although he is regularly hitting well lately, Dwise as our 3rd hitter is ridiculous. DJ should be hitting in his place. DJ as third hitter = equally ridiculous
  4. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) Who is pitching Monday? Currently says Quintana
  5. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 09:21 PM) Question: Why can't Beckham get around on an 89 mph fastball when he's looking for it? That was a curve ball?
  6. Oh man Beckham could not have gotten an easier pitch to hit
  7. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 08:31 PM) Rios with a drive in the gap. nice. Wierd looking double, one hop fielded followed by an off target throw.
  8. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 06:45 PM) If he keeps up his ace quality, Detroit will have trouble paying all of those guys. When you have a billionaire who doesn't care how much money he loses...
  9. So that gives Quintana an extra day of rest right?
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 05:48 PM) If they can sign Youkilis how much you want to bet Morel is traded this off season? I wouldn't trade for a 3b with a back problem who hasn't proven he's healthy. I could probably find 3 of those on the waiver wire.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 04:06 PM) Yeah, and there are cuts they aren't making, such as Mike Stanton hitting his arb years. With the position they are in now, they pretty much have to be a $100 million team. Otherwise they might as well just fold the franchise. Stanton is still pre-arb next year.
  12. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 04:03 PM) It's an extra $400 million out of the middle class workers pocket and that into the wealthy entitlement class. It also harms education, lacks legitimate evaluations and bad teachers are allowed to stay on the job indefinitely. A big loss for the city. But I knew it would happen. Did you just call teachers a "Wealthy entitlement class"?
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) It is easier to eat that versus all of the other bad player contracts they have. Remarkably, assuming Zambrano's option doesn't vest, they have only $62 million committed for next year. Reyes, Buehrle, and Bell are the only 3 contracts they have for 2014. Yeah that totals $40 million in not-so-great money, but there's room here to cut salary if that's what they want to do.
  14. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 03:20 PM) This is like predicting snow sometime between now and April. Will anyone really be surprised when it happens? I'd be stunned if they ate the money remaining on his contract.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) I didn't want to start a new thread, but I had a question. How is Chicago handling the Sox being in contention? Is this big news? Do people just laugh it off since KC has mopped us up and in head to head games with Detroit the Sox get owned? Do people believe this team is a contender? Is the city gripped over the Sox? I mean as mad as I get at them, they are three weeks from being in the playoffs if all went well and then all bets are off. A world series at that point is the goal and as we know they don't come around often. My question is ... Does Chicago care??? The Packers won last night.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 10:21 AM) Not a single piece of data in either article deals with what I was talking about. What I've been saying is, the gap (in my view) seems to be widening between haves and have-nots in terms of educational achievement/performance. The meaningul data there, if there is such data (I can't really find it), would be to show how test scores (and/or other measures) have done in the well-off public schools, versus the poor public schools. Let me try to say it better. I agree with you that the gap between Mitt Romney's kids and any kids I have will be greater than the gap between George Romney's kids and my parents kids. However, that gap is still small and should hopefully remain somewhat small. The big gap is between "average kid in a decent school" and "Kid in a poverty-stricken school". If you bring the poverty-stricken schools up to the performance of "average kids in average schools", you've made a much bigger dent than if you try to close the gap between me and someone from Wall Street. Of course, this reminds me of a Warren Buffet quote (I assume attributed correctly) I read somewhere this morning...to paraphrase...if you want to fix America's schools, ban private schools, and then have all school selections determined by a lottery. (Basically, you have wealthy people have a chance of having their kids wind up in failing schools...and that's the end of failing schools).
  17. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 10:45 AM) Let me fix that for you. So I'd assume Morel will be on the bench tomorrow as a spectator? I just want a warm body who can put Youk on the bench at the end of games to either give him a breather or play defense.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 01:42 PM) Hawk flat out said it the other night. He said Hawk was hurt. It's pretty sad the writers can't let us know what is going on. Does Cowley write about the Sox any more? He seems to have gone away. He could at least have gotten to the bottom of this. Cowley's only way to get to the bottom of anything about the Sox is currently coaching in Miami.
  19. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) AT&T is spotty even when you have 5 bars of signal. My worst was when I didn't print a boarding pass, figuring "I'm at the Houston Airport, I'll have coverage and can just download my electronic boarding pass, this won't be anything ridiculous". Took me 15 minutes, with 5 bars/3g, to get the damn thing to finally load.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) If you skip Sale's start to put him Monday, then you have one less Sale start this season. And one more start from the Liriano/Axelrod/Santiago slot. Kinda need that extra win right now, so... pitch him tonight and get a W. Would sale be in line for 163 if he moved back?
