Merkin says Hawk left due to a family Issue

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 10:07 PM) No s***. But the thing is, the more people who pay attention to it, the more he's going to leave it because he likes the attention.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 08:47 PM) So Sandusky was double teaming a kid with a prominent PSU booster, oh and was sending out kiddie porn to members of the second mile charity. Wow, really surprised. Link?

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 09:05 PM) Also I think if the Bulls wanted J.J Redick, they could probably have him for a future 1st right now. The Bulls are literally unable to take on salary in a trade unless the Korver trade exemption works.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 04:26 PM) Three of those 4 players aren't what they used to be (though all three are still very good). The other won't be ready to start the season and will need time once he's back on the court before he's back to being the MVP/DPOY force that he's been the last 4 years. Again, looks real good on paper. I just see a lot of potential issues (lack of depth, outside shooting, etc). The Thunder's core has been together for three years now and they've gotten better each year. How much more valuable did Kendrick Perkins just get?

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 03:58 PM) Beckham was doing pretty good at the top of the lineup. For some reason he hits the ball hard when he's batting at the top, and just looks like s*** when he's batting 9th .730 OPS in the 2 hole, .539 OPS in the 9 hole, ~ 200 PA's in each spot.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) He'd be a great fit offensively, but Dwight is a better player and was just traded. The Bulls might be chasing 5 teams by the time Love is actually available. Don't worry, there will still be plenty of venom available for the front office when the Bulls fail to land him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 03:14 PM) I'm not saying that Bolt isn't impressive. I'm just saying what Johnson did was more incredible, at least to me. It is also worth pointing out since the 96 Olympics, all of the fastest 200 meter times in history have been since 1996. After Johnson and Fredricks broke the old record, that 19.72 has been topped 6 more times. I look at a stat like that and think "doping". -
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) One thing I want to know, however, is is the funding actually dropping, or is tuition just rising so much that more and more needs to come out of pocket. Actually dropping. 25% lower than it was per head a decade ago as of 2010, with continuing budget cuts since. Again, state level link, but there's a national curve on it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 11:59 AM) I'd rather see Brent called up. We have two guys who can play 1B in Youk and Dunn. We have only one guy who can play 3B worth a s***. Olmedo and Hudson are just awful over there. Brent hasn't looked like he's worthy of playing 3b either.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 11:32 AM) Good thing it's non-dischargeable in bankruptcy, too! for-profit colleges account for something like 20% of (federally-guaranteed) student loans but 80% of the default rates. There's on-going controversy over law schools and them being dishonest about debt loads and employment rates, too. The other, unnoted big part of that surge is that state funding for higher education has been plummeting. This is only 1 state but it shows through 2011; there's a similar national trend.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 01:10 PM) They told us out of law school (2008) that the median salary in chicago for a new lawyer was 43k. Which yes, is higher than the national average, but the 100k in school debt is about 800 bucks a month out of your pay. Edit: also, if you work in a small firm (which most do) you're not going to get any benefits - health insurance, 401k, etc. Edit 2: and because of the number of new attorneys being churned out year after year, the salary demands are dropping like crazy. There are people fighting for $30k a year jobs. And lawyers by nature are absolute cheap-asses, so if you can hire a new lawyer for pennies (and you can in this job market) you're going to do it. Median though doesn't mean "Mean". If 40% of law school graduates were unemployed, the average salary could be $20 k and the median salary could be $43.

Goldman Sachs will not face charges in the 2008 collapse. Sigh. But hey, they'll know not to do it again right?!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 08:56 AM) So listening to the coverage of the 200 finals last night, and all they could say was Bolt was the GOAT sprinter. I don't really agree with that. Michael Johnson lowered the world record by 0.4 sec in the Atlanta Olympics. He had literally no one to run with in the 200 and the 400. I would have loved to see those two run against each other in their primes in the 200. Isn't "Holding the world record" the basic standard for GOAT? -
The Magic are seemingly also making it known that they didn't trust Bynum's knees.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 03:19 AM) I think Hector looks to be a very capable #5 starter in the bigs, maybe even a #4 guy. I like his arm and his stuff. I don't know why you'd put his ceiling at 4-5. If he can hold fastball velocity, he's coming up there with a low 90's fastball from the left hand side that wasn't exactly straight, a curveball that I really liked, and an offspeed pitch that the league isn't used to in the screwball. He has work to do on keeping the offspeed stuff under control and most importantly down, but those are at least the makings of a mid to upper part of the rotation starter, on paper of course.

I'll cheer for the Lakers this year.

What baseball team do you hate the most?
Balta1701 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Grow up in an area where a bunch of your friends are cheering for the Cubs, getting out of school to go to Cubs games, your family/grandparents have a Cubs fan in there, and you somehow wind up a Sox fan by age 9...you'll figure out the Cubs hatred really really quick. -
For the record, I'd like to say that the "Which side is the bigger liar" contest strikes me as much more annoying and far less interesting than it used to. Thanks for the link, didn't realize that about the ad.

Reasons to bump a thread. #1: the FBI recordings of the guy caught him saying this:

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 05:45 PM) The reality was that she didn't know she had cancer until two days before she died, FIVE YEARS after he was fired. One LITERALLY had nothing to do with the other. Yet that was the accusation. Actually hadn't paid enough attention to see that part and it wasn't discussed in your link. Can you add a link on this so that i can read that part of the story?

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 04:56 PM) Are you really worried that the bears might be playing the second half texans this year? IT's the NFL. Who knows how these games will shape up.
