QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 05:37 PM) Makes you wonder who will be the first team to shift on Ale' He's a guy I'd think you'd say "Go ahead and put the shift on" since he is fast enough to beat out an infield single. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 05:35 PM) Yeah, I really like what I see from him...I'm sure adjustments will be made, but he is exceeding my expectations. I didn't get to see his last at bat, can you share some extra details? -
Can anyone give me a guess about how the Barons starting rotation shapes up right now? Trying to plan pitching matchups for when they visit Tennessee Next weekend, catch a game or maybe 2.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 05:19 PM) Good job by the bottom third. BTW, Jordan Danks does not suck. Alejandro De Aza also does not suck. -

Always nice to allow a guy on who feeds the audience a line of politically loaded bullplop about testing. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 04:28 PM) Yeah, you're on crack, Balta. He's not bringing a Jared Mitchell. This guy has no place in their future and while he does have some value, I think you're exaggerating the hell out of that value. I don't feel like mitchell has all that much trade value, even with a solid performance so far in the first half of this season. Just for an example, there seem to be plenty of people saying an 18 year old high schooler who can do a backflip would rank higher on a prospect list than him. At least if I'm an opposing GM, there's nothing in the Sox's system I'd backflip over, even Mitchell.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 04:29 PM) They won't though, because that is a legitimate base hit. It's not like he's hitting ground balls through that side. If he keeps doing that, then he's not hitting the ball out of the ballpark to RF. That makes teams happy. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 04:27 PM) Minn up 11-0 against Cubs in 6th and still have bases loaded ouch. But Samardzija is pitching! Can't be true. He only gave up 2 runs in the first 3 innings, that's all that counts. -

Paulie shoulda had that. -
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 04:04 PM) I dont think we'll make a trade, but obviously we could get a 3b with a deal involving some of our youth. Just because some publications rank us whatever, it doesn't mean we dont have young players that would interest a club. Young players who would interest some clubs? Sure. Appropriate payment for a legit player who might be available? Unless the Sox are willing to go after Danny Valencia or Ian Stewart, there aren't many teams who are both out of the race and have a 3b who might be available. If the Sox are willing to hurt their big league roster elsewhere, fine, Chase Headley might well be available if you structured a deal around Addison. You might well be able to pull off Youkilis with something centered around Thornton. But there ain't a big time value guy sitting at AA we could deal that would interest most teams.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 04:07 PM) Well the world series highlights certainly made me feel all warm and tingly. Except for that f***ing "Momentum" song. -

Hot day at the ballpark today according to Stoney, ball will be happy to go if you get it into the air. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 03:27 PM) So let me get this straight. Volquez was basically the 3rd or 4th piece in the Latos trade, yet now he's worth our top prospect, a young starter who has done fairly well in limited major league innings, and a left-handed major leage reliever with lots of upside that might have the stuff to become a starter down the road. All this for an average at-best starting pitcher who has significant injury concerns. I'm sorry but I think you are blowing this guys' value to the Padres out of the water. Just because the Reds gave up a fortune for Latos doesn't mean the Padres will be happy to help us out. And "Our top prospect" doesn't mean that much in this system. And "Young starter who has done fairly well in limited major league innings" = "Guy who was picked up off the scrap heap last offseason". Left Handed Major League Reliever = guy with an ERA of 5, WHIP of 1.6, who already lost the closer's job. Guys who have use to us don't necessarily have a ton of value on the trade market sometimes, because the other team has to have a "Cooper who can fix them". The Padres can hold out for a team to overpay for Volquez. If the player was performing better than Volquez currently is, then you would start talking about Addison as the main piece.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) I have not seen any evidence of Morel being a capable MLB hitter save one hot streak people were foolish to buy into. What evidence have you seen that the Sox are in good position to trade for a 3b?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 02:12 PM) He's made 50 starts for Arizona in a little under 1 year, 10 months since being traded. Pretty often. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) You sure about that? QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) 50 starts in less than a year would be like, a modern record. Over the last year and 1/3rd, he's been slightly above average. That's not the point though. 50 starts in less than a year is some Ed Walsh kind if s***. Ok, so your problem was you missed part of my first point. Check the bold.
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) You sure about that? Games started with Arizona: 2010: 11. 2011: 33. 2012: 6. 11+33+6 = 50. He hit the DL once, earlier this year, and is back, although his last outing was short/bad. So yes, I'm sure, and I'm totally baffled as to why you'd ask. It's not like that's a hard stat to find.
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 02:10 PM) How often is that? He's made 50 starts for Arizona in a little under 1 year, 10 months since being traded. Pretty often.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 01:51 PM) I agree that a starting pitcher is the biggest need. Anyone interested in an Edison Volquez? How much would that cost? 2 years before free agency, guy who is moderately cheap, not putting up stellar numbers but good enough, the Padres have little reason why they're forced to move him unless they get something valuable back in return. You might, might be able to do that by giving up 3 or 4 pieces from our minor leagues, headlined by Mitchell and a couple pitchers. I could see Mitchell + Santiago + Quintana being the basis of something that would work for the Padres.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) Thank God. Yeah, because: 1. We're in a great place to trade for a replacement with all the talent we have to give up. 2. Orlando Hudson is a great long-term option at 3b for a first place team.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 12:33 PM) I'm not saying this would happen, but I'd like us to get a starting five that looks like this: PG - Derrick SG - Kobe SF - Durant PF - Taj (f*** you Boozer!) C - Dwight Howard /green /allbullsfans If Pax and Forman can't pull that off they should be fired.
