What's their job on a team? If a guy is getting paid $25 million to carry an offense/pitching staff on a contending team, there's not a lot of leeway, the guy better be Halladaying it. If a guy is a 25 year old on a rebuilding team, then my answer is completely different.

This does happen. Gordon Beckham is a 25 year old. If he were an MLB rookie right now...he wouldn't be behind schedule

If Beckham is likely to be non-tendered after that point as a 2nd year arb player (which he would be if he's hitting like this), that is a major failure and one that could rank very highly on things that will cost everyone their jobs.
