  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) These days that can actually be a good thing. It didn't work out so well for the last VP candidate no one had heard of before her selection.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 09:36 AM) The recent early March Fidel Castro comments were actually made at the Roger Dean Stadium Complex in Jupiter. Would it have made any difference if they were made there (I know it's home to two teams, like our agreement in Glendale) at Marlins Park, which is 80-85% publicly funded? I would be really curious to see his contract, and see what loopholes or leeway there is for the Marlins to get away with terminating him for cause...they had to have put some extra safeguards in place, knowing Ozzie's history of inflammatory comments, one would think. No and I have no idea why you'd think where he said them was important.
  3. By the way, I think the same thing every time someone cites free speech to defend something stupid someone says on the radio... Ozzie Guillen has free speech just like the protestors do. Neither of them will go to jail because they criticized a leader. However, people also have every right to judge a person based on the things they say, and they have a right to judge an employer based on what the people they employ say. Citing free speech to say that people shouldn't protest someone else's speech is an embarrassing misunderstanding of the issue and reflects very poorly on the person who says that. This case, might well be even worse than the usual one...because the taxpayers of Florida paid for that shiny new ballpark.
  4. How far away is he from catching IRoid's record?
  5. QUOTE (balfanman @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 08:05 AM) But isn't the "one too many fastballs" issue more on Pierzynski than Santiago? A.J. is the veteran signal caller here. I think that's on AJ. Sometimes he can be a bit formulaic on how he makes pitchers throw, especially showing up with his relievers.
  6. *Ahem*. (Clears throat, coughs a few times).... PHIL HER UP!
  7. Surprised no one here mentioned how much work Alexei and Morel, and to a lesser extent Beckham, are doing in trying to drive the ball the other way. Morel's didn't always produce hits, but the guy is simply lining every pitch he swings at to RF. Compared to last year where every ball he hit to right was a short roller I think this is a good sign, Manto probably has him working on spraying the ball with more authority to the OF, which is something that could really help him. Alexei was clearly working that way also and got at least 1 hit out of it. Alexei was the bigger surprise on that to me, because we all saw Alexei's slow grounder to the left side swing last year produce a guaranteed double play every time someone got on first. Seemed like he forgot how to spray the ball around completely last year, and now he's lining the ball with authority to RF. Viciedo swatted a ball that way too. Beckham, couldn't exactly tell what he had, he put one good swing on a pitch but fouled it off then put a bad swing on the next pitch.
  8. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 12:23 AM) Well put. Castro is responsible for some terrible atrocities but this whole episode stinks of manufactured outrage. In any other city I'd agree. The Cuban Expat community though has a huge amount of built up hatred for Castro and everything remotely related to him...and you can't exactly say it's unjustified. And that community is exactly who the Marlins are trying to market to as their new base. Even if this is just reporters and politicians trying to build themselves up by tearing Ozzie down...Ozzie gave them the opening.
  9. But he'll never be a decent 3b option for the Giants unless he can keep his weight under control.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 01:29 AM) Rose was wearing a walking boot today. Apparently sprained his right ankle against the Knicks. For f***s sake... This has to be an April Fool's joke.
  11. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) Did he use that screwball this game? Maybe one? There's some 84 mph sinker between his 77 mph curve and 94 mph fastball he threw 3 times tonight, but he threw them for balls.
  12. So far Santiago's normal curve has been a better pitch than the screwball.
  13. Another solid shot down the rf line for morel, but foul.
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 09:17 PM) Site is already down. My guess it has been overwhelmed by people trying to see it. You'll notice I didn't link directly. There's also the paypal option on there.
  15. Viciedo lets the pitcher walk him after fighting a few off.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) Ok, I just got back. How'd Sale look? Started losing his control a bit late, but very difficult to hit otherwise.
  17. George Zimmerman has launched a personal website, "Therealgeorgezimmerman.com", and his lawyers have supposedly confirmed that it is his. On it, he features an image of an Ohio Black Cultural Center that was vandalized with the words "Long Live Zimmerman" and a sign saying something similar from a rally hosted by Pastor Terry Jones, the guy from the Quran burning controversy. Somehow...I feel like that's exactly what I would have expected him to post on a website right now.
  18. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 08:58 PM) Multiview is pretty bad IMO. Hard to really see anything, let alone multiple things. I might like it if I had a 70" tv.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 08:57 PM) Seems like it might be time for the bullpen to get involved soon. Was laughing at the Guillen thread so I didn't say it here, but I'm surprised Sale came out for this inning.
