QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) I believe that a member of MLB could make a statement so vile that the league should suspend the person. Do you agree or disagree? I agree. Previous examples (John Rocker) support this statement. Now change it from simply a vile statement to it being an expression of political feeling. Doesn't that make it much, much harder?

QUOTE (sunofgold @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 02:54 PM) Should have replace Beckham with Escobar last inning. Normally, one wouldn't say this move would provide a defensive upgrade, since Beckham was solid on D last yera. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) I'd let it go. I'd probably let everything within reason go from a league point of view and expect the team to take some action. I'm just leaving open the once in a lifetime comment that would cause the league to take action. And if 300 9/11 families showed up to protest that manager?

Wouldn't be surprised if that saved the Bears a small amount of cap room as well.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) Ah, the old "well they do it too so whatever" response. And hell, you're original statement was "Imagine if the other side did so how much of an outrage it would be". I imagine now you're going to spend your next several weeks cataloging hate radio just to make sure that we're appropriately outraged. "They do it to" is exactly waht your initial post said was impossible.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) Ah, the old "well they do it to so whatever" response. No, that's the "I really don't pay any attention to the fact that white supremacist groups exist and broadcast on radio, and yet Republicans care about every single thing the "New Black Panther Party" hate group does." defense. I don't care about the "New Black Panther party". It has at the most a few thousand members nationwide according to their own statements, and are probably a lot smaller than that. The original group disowns this group. The only reason anyone has heard about this group is that the Republicans have a political interest in pushing it. That's it. I'm sure the Martin family and the Zimmerman family both have a ton of death threats out of this, but there is no media group organized to publishing all those, but there is one happy to make use of the existence of the "New Black Panther Party" hate group and anything they do.

And now Robin gets the lesson about why you don't leave Ohman in to face righties. -

And Santana walks, which is exactly waht you hope Ohman does when he faces a guy on the right side. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) Man, imagine the outrage if this were a white person dropping N-bombs on the radio. http://www.wtsp.com/news/article/250102/8/...taff-apologizes You do realize that there are actually not a trivial number of white supremacist radio shows broadcast in this country, right? They can occasionally book guests like Pat Buchanan and Ron Paul. No one really cares about them as long as they dont' actively organize violence (See: Hal Turner). Just like, once again, no one should really care about the head of the particular hate group that is consistently cited by Conservatives in any case where race comes up.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 02:17 PM) He may come back out for the 7th to turn Martinez around and face Hafner. Do you mean Santana? Because I don't want Ohman facing Santana from the RH side. -

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 02:13 PM) Ohman hadn't pitched the whole would have been nice to have him start the inning. Hopefully I can safely say we're not doing that any more. -

Ohman gets used properly and does his job. -
So for the 2nd game of a series we'll get things like Beckham leading off, instead of the 3rd game?

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 02:00 PM) Do you really want to play the what if game? You are really bored today. OK Clearly someone who comes to the ballpark each day and says, I really hope no one comes today, tickets to baseball games are too expensive and only benefit rich owners, you are an idiot if you pay, but if they do, I hope a terrorist will blow up the ball park, should not be suspended. Bottom line I believe there are political comments that could be so vile to warrant a MLB suspension. Don't they suspend for arguing with an umpire if it gets bad enough? Are you really saying that no statement could ever be bad enough to warrant a suspension? I believe they suspend for making contact with an umpire, not for anything that is said. An umpire can remove from the game for statements, but the league does not act unless the manager or player makes physical contact.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) I'm not saying that EITHER! but i'd rather have his ceiling than any other 5th starter in the AL Central. Who would you rather have? and I hate Ubaldo. Think he's a crap pitcher. The Tigers 5th and 6th starters have some damn high ceilings. Jeanmar Gomez (Cleveland) is a 23 year old who put up an ERA about 2.5 last year in AAA, so there's at least some promise there. For this season...probably Philip Humber...but I don't know those prospects well enough to call it convincingly. -

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 01:57 PM) How did we acquire De Aza from FLA again? Just a minor league signing or did we acquire him in a deal? Or Rule V? He was claimed by the Sox off waivers from Florida, when he had several minor league options remaining. The Marlins let him go to clear a spot on their 40 man roster. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 01:49 PM) See above. So when Rashard Mendenhall tweeted “What kind of person celebrates death?” Mendenhall says. “It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side.” regarding the death of Osama Bin Laden, he clearly should have been suspended.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 01:49 PM) NO. That's what you're missing. I'm saying Humbers FULL SEASON was fantastic. yeah he wasn't great after the allstar break - but last year if you were to tell me that Humber would have a sub-4 era, I'd have been ecstatic. Why are you so unimpressed? I'm not. I'm just not going to pretend he's a guaranteed above average pitcher because he gave 100 above average innings out of nowhere last year. He's got to prove it to me. If we gave credit to people for things they couldn't keep up for the full year, then everyone would be raving about Ubaldo Jiminez on the Indians rotation. They're not. -

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 01:47 PM) you don't understand average and above average in major league baseball. a 4.00 is above average in the American League. Great. So out of the 3, 4, 5 starters on the White Sox, which ones have a track record of putting up above average ERA's over 175+ innings for the last 2-3 seasons? -

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) oh so i make a basis off an entire season (humber) and it's ridiculous... but... Technically 1/2 a season. He had an ERA of 5 after the AS Break last year. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 01:44 PM) But I believe we would know it when someone steps over the line. So how do you respond to me stating that this statement in support of Fidel is not over the line for any team that doesn't have to market to Cuban Expats?

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 01:39 PM) ps this "rock solid" thing is so stupid. all i'm saying is that we have a rotation that, 1 thru 5 are all average or above average pitchers. thus, solid. most teams can't say this. No...they "Can be" average or above average pitchers. Only 2 of them have a track record of being above average pitchers, and even then, not amazingly far above average. Many teams can say that. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 01:23 PM) Yes. And which beliefs do you include? Why is praising Fidel Castro worth a league suspension but refusing to support the Iraq war not worth one? Why is praising Fidel Castro worth a suspension but being a birther is not worth a suspension? Do we suspend people who praise Hugo Chavez? He's quite the dictator. If a Jewish player comments negatively on the Palestinian situation, is that a suspension? Would you suspend the Miami Heat for that picture of the team in hoodies? This one is a legitimate slippery slope, because I can't see how you can fairly draw a line anywhere here.
