QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 10:58 AM) It doesn't matter what they were called, or what they do. Unless someone actually saw something, or were told what exactly happened, it doesn't matter. This is pure speculation. Get back to me if they have an eyewitness or evidence. If the US government is seeing similar intel though, then these sorts of emails are context for where the relations between the 2 countries are.

If money is "lost" it's basically a gift to the treasury department. Same idea as when people collected coins like the 50 state quarters. If the money is taken off the market, then the treasury received value when they gave it to the bank and they don't have to return that value to anyone.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) He IS the problem. The rest of their roster is not as good as they appeared either. Steve Novak is not the best shooter in the NBA and Lin is not the best PG, but they plays like it for a couple weeks.

MLB officially announces 10-team expanded playoffs

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 10:31 AM) Which just sounds awful, considering the randomness of baseball in small sample sizes. Then win your division. -
The only thing important you can take from a guy who has 20 innings above A ball getting lit up against an MLb lineup is that the idea he's ready for the bigs or will be anytime soon is as silly as it seemed to be.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 10:35 AM) Its spring training. Results matter to an extent but this is much more a time about guys getting into shape and their groove. Plus, Molina is young, I don't expect him to dominate to start. If his stuff looks lousy a couple weeks from now and continues into the year, than people have right to get a little frustrated with what the club got for Quentin. However, it isn't as if Quentin had this ridiculous value. I liked him and felt that potentially his internal value (w/Sox) was more valuable than his value outside of the organization. I am excited to see what De Aza and Viciedo can do in a full season (and I might regret saying that a year from now, haha, depending on how they perform). The sox got Castro for Quentin and Molina for Santos.

Struggle to see the bulls trading CJ for only a slight positional upgrade when he knows this system already and Thibs truss him.

MLB officially announces 10-team expanded playoffs
Balta1701 replied to SoxFan1's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 09:54 AM) But will this change it? It creates a system where another team has a shot at the WS. It will keep more fans interested. It's more money for the networks and teams. So it's a good thing for revenue but I'm not sure if it changes anything else. This will absolutely change it. Teams will fight tooth and mail now to win the division if they're remotely close, and wild card teams will burn their rotation even more trying to get to the lds. Wild card teams can still win the series but now they have a very rough extra step in there to make them earn it. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 10:54 PM) Can you diminish the wild card. It's not really an accomplishment. If you get in the playoffs as a non-division winner, it really doesn't matter. It certainly has seemed to matter for the number of teams that won the WS as wild card teams. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 01:46 AM) For the 49ers fans who came out of the woodwork this year, per rotoworld: According to CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, the 49ers have targeted restricted free agent Mike Wallace and unrestricted free agent Vincent Jackson "at a specific price." The Niners "do not get into bidding wars for players, though," Maiocco cautions. Jackson is sure to incite a bidding war, and Wallace will cost $9.5 million in 2012 in addition to a lucrative long-term contract and the 49ers' first-round pick. At their respective prices, both big-play receivers are long shots for San Francisco. The Steelers website pointed out Tuesday that no RFA carrying a first-round tender has signed an offer sheet in the past 10 years. For the money and that situation, Garcon or Manningham would probably be better signings anyways. Worth noting, if the Niners go after Wallace, they're only looking at losing the 30th pick or so, rather than the 19th. Big value difference.

Yes, and given that you're not the only one at that camp/mapping that area often, you follow the leave no trace rules.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 10:15 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/elections/ In Ohio Romney is winning in the more urban areas. Of course, he always wins the people with te highest incomes and they don't live in the rural areas.

Ohio lead for Ricky shrinking, down to 1.5% with about 50% reported.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 09:44 PM) But it's just as much about how damaged the candidate is...and Romney's reaching a critical point where Santorum is ready to go on and fight for the next 2-3 months, same with Gingrich, even. If we were talking about 2008, I would agree that was mostly about delegates, because Obama and Clinton had very very few philosophical differences. Everyone knew the party would unite in the end for the general, whereas this GOP race has practically fractured the party and the social topics side is a losing one for the GOP. They are risking alienating all independents/moderates, women, Latinos and young people. You can't win a general election when it SHOULD be a focus on the economy, and Romney's plan for creating jobs is just about as ephemeral as fog or mist. Mitt rMoney will come out of tonight with a lead of several hundred delegates, and he has so much money no one will come close to making up that gap. The only thing that could happen in terms of him not winnig is him not getting a full majority. And even that remains unlikely with the size of his lead. But please, let rMoney get as damaged as possible. That's why I voted Ricky. And women, Latinos, and the young would not be voting for the Republican anyway.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) Au contraire, not having to contest VA and Massachusetts (no way to beat Romney there anyway, although it would have been the ultimate embarassment, it's not in Santorum's sweet spot electorate-wise)...is actually helping Santorum, because it has put all the attention on Ohio, and Romney was predicted to win a close one coming into tonight and it looks like that bet was off and everything will be up in the air again. If Romney can't do well in the South...and is struggling with those battleground states like MI, OH, PA and Illinois, the GOP might have to step in somehow. It will also be interesting to see what happens with ND and Alaska. If Paul can finally come up with a win somehow. Getting zero delegates there makes this night a blowout even if little Ricky takes Ohio, because the race is about delegates.
-
Gingrich takes GA, Santorum has Ok and TN, but Ohio still up for grabs...exit polling showed a near tie but Little Ricky seems to be outperforming the exit polls.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 06:24 PM) I guess its jaywalking? That type of crime is not one I believe people should lose their right to assemble over (like littering etc.) Then if we want to make it plausible to have people assembling in protest of such an event, it can't happen in a major city without huge disruptions to the city. Hence, Camp David.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 06:26 PM) Please, not another 78-84 win team. That's right about where I'd expect them to be. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 05:56 PM) The right to swing your fist ends at the beginning of someone else's nose. But the right to assemble in a crowd doesn't necessarily end at the side of the street if the crowd is too big.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 05:50 PM) That sure isn't what happened when protestors got arrested for shutting down LSD. The police were the ones who were forced to pay restitution. Having large scale protests of any sort in a city is going to be immensely disrupting to the city.

yeah that's where i started with it, and i don't think it's fake.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 05:20 PM) They don't often sell off either, but they have picked up salary in deals when they dumped players. They did so most recently with guys they effectively "Dumped" for nothing though...Thome and Iguchi...and those were 2 cases where they were just getting them out of the way or doing guys a favor. They didn't pick up salary with Jackson, IIRC. -

QUOTE (forrestg @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) Sox pay 3 million of his salary for those two years then it might be close in return sox get in return some AA ball player with an upside kind like when we got Bobby jenks from them. The Sox rarely if ever pick up salary if they're sending off a guy that other teams would want. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) And as it turns out, I believe the tourney is in Chicago next year. It really would be financially nuts not to exploit having the chicago media market in your area every couple years with that tourney.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 04:54 PM) What is the point of that comment. The dude has played through injuries most of his career. They checked him out and I'm sure he'll be back in a week. Why the heck would the Bulls even ask him to come back in. They have one of the best records in the NBA and Rip is more important to the overall cause. I'm sure if it was the playoffs you'd have seen him back. Hell, at this point, we've already seen what happened when Rip Hamilton tried to play through one bruise...he missed the next month.
