QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) His campaign? It was HIM. The guy is a dolt, he went in having an obvious lack of the kind of knowledge he needed, he's terrible at engaging any tough dialogue, and his ideas were transparently ridiculous. His campaign may also have been inept, but it was his own personality and intellect (or lack thereof) that was his main downfall. He was also the first victim of rMoney's money...they really set the "narrative" on him early and broke his early surge by running a lot of ads on how Perry had occasionally not been completely insane on immigration issues, which forced him to have to defend sane policies in a Republican debate. Then the gaffes followed that up.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) It is amazing isn't it that they keep bringing it up as a prediction - the decline of PK- and he shows them wrong. But, they keep it up and I suppose some year it might happen and they will call themselves experts and great judges of MLB talent. Eventually it's got to happen, so eventually they'll be right...but I'm done expecting it to happen.

I love how Adam Dunn h its a spring training home run earns its own post there.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 02:51 PM) Dwight's going to wind up staying in Orlando or with the Lakers. Staying in Orlando for how long though? I think they won't trade him but he'll walk this offseason.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 10:42 AM) When you look at the fanbases that will actually travel for the B10 tournament, Indy and Chicago are the most centrally located and provide the lowest net driving time. Driving times to Indy from: Bloomington - 1 hour West Lafayette - 1 hour Champaign - 2 hours Columbus - 3 hours Chicago - 3 hours East Lansing - 4.5 hours Ann Arbor - 4.5 hours Madison - 6 hours You start really adding to the cumulative travel when you go to Milwaukee or Detroit. Minneapolis and Cleveland really shoot that figure up. Cleveland doesn't really have a big 10 team do they? I could still though see doing Detroit and Minneapolis once a decade just to forcibly get the word out to those areas about the B10 and to build the fanbase.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 10:38 AM) If not for a $28 million roster bonus, he would not have been released. Its all about the benjamins. I'm not saying releasing him wasn't the correct move, I believe it was, but it was about money. It's not just about it being $28 million either...it's about the cap space...it's that his contract is front-loaded and effectively destroys their cap space, so assuming they kept Wayne, they wouldn't be able to add anything other than the draft to get better. (Oh, and Freeney also has something ridiculous like a $15 million number while we're at it). The Colts could have traded down to try to stockpile picks, but everyone knows that "picks" can take 2-3 years to pan out, and by then Peyton might well be pushing retirement. If they kept him, they'd be going into next season with a weaker and older version of the team that was what, 10-6 two seasons ago, or they'd have a bunch of stockpiled draft picks from whoever moved up to get Luck (and they probably coudln't get fair value for that QB anyway).

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 10:06 AM) Not true. they have one of the best QBs in history, thats pretty much it. Last year they traded for Ochocinco and Haynesworth, didnt quite work out. Their defense has become a shadow of its former self, and a lot of that has to do with their drafting, the players they are getting arent working out like they used to. they are still very, very good, dont get me wrong. But their first round picks arent all as great as we would like to think Well, also, wasn't it the Raiders who gave them their first round pick this year or one of these years? The Raiders front office hasn't exactly impressed lately.

I'm through with betting on Konerko looking old.

For those of y'all who wear fanny packs...

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 08:25 AM) Don't the Patriots have 2 first round picks every year? Because they usually make a trade on draft day to get another one.

Kaman makes the Pacers better but still far behind the league's top 2. Also probably keeps the Bulls healthier if the Pacers no longer play their goon as much.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) Id say maybe start with 10 and then move from there. You can at least do 50, the NBA did tht for you, then just add Lebron.
-
QUOTE (Wanne @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 09:52 PM) Understand that about Lilly...but Gordo needs to be on a short leash if offense in lacking IMO was the point... Beckham gets the whole season unless he's so bad you send him to Vharlitte. He does nothing and hes a nontender candidate.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 01:06 PM) I have know idea what article you are refering to, but I doubt very much that Phil Rogers has anything right. Link -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 01:10 PM) You're the one making irrational jumps based on a single spring training outing. So were the people who said he would compete for the roster based on 0.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 12:41 PM) Thought this was interesting: http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2012/0...tter_socialflow All of the shots taken in the NBA from 2006-2011. Proof of the lack of midrange game these days. This looks disturbingly like a tomographic image of the earth.

QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 12:39 PM) I think I am going to like this. I would also like to see the regular season schedule be cut back. Wont happen. And Hell, within our lifetimes late October cold weather will be less of a concern. -
QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) Perhaps they are looking at bad advance ticket sales, and Thornton's big contract in the way. $7 million a year would not make up for ticket sales so bad that they're panicking at this stage. You. Dump Danks Konerko and Floyd if you're tht desperate.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 12:13 PM) ^ This. Otherwise we should cut John Danks. John Danks jumped to the bigs after 20 innings in AA based on the strength of his spring training performance?

There is a big difference between what could happen and what is likely to happen.
