  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 02:36 AM) After 16 hours, meeting resumes in 7 and a half hours at 10 AM, EST. Link
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 09:47 AM) How the heck would you talk about the personal tax rate when referring to big business? The phrase "I am the 99%" doesn't seem to refer very much to corporate interests, it refers to personal inequality.
  3. Did you excerpt something stuck under an image with a typo or did both Beckett and Lester release the exact same statement?
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) Its a big shift in the message from the left too. They sure don't talk about anything else except corporate taxes when it comes to the fortune 500. If it is dishonest on one side, it is dishonest on the other. At least keep consistent. Really, we don't talk about anything other than corporate taxes? I hear a ton more complaining about the personal tax rate than the corporate rate. Hell, I'm pretty sure the President himself has repeatedly proposed cutting the nominal corporate tax rate while leveling off the playing field. Repeatedly. As repeatedly as i'm repeating the word repeated.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) I am perfectly content taking Ventura over Buddy Bell and Bobby Valentine. You can ask for experienced managers all you want to, but the only one who may have potentially been available is Francona, and I don't know how much he actually wants to manage this year. But can't you see that there's a difference between the levels "Actually been a manager before"..."Actively worked under a manager and prepared for the next step" and "no managerial activity or preparation whatsoever". I can tolerate the latter for a technique coach...but the actual manager's spot it might be nice to at least be at the middle level.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) Because if you want to go down the line and include all of the things that corporations do pay, it is significant. Instead they are focused on one tax that doesn't tell the whole story, just like the 53% argument. If it is wrong there, it is wrong for Occupy. But that's a big shift from the message I've gotten. Here's the difference...no honest person looks at the 47% of people who only pay state, local, and payroll taxes and thinks "These people are taking way too much of a slice of the pie" or "These people have taken total control of our political system". "Raising corporate taxes" might help the situation or might not. If it helped the real issue, I think it would get support, but that's not the only thing on the line here. The real issue here is this insular, government-protected Wall Street community where they always win at the casino and everyone else loses.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 08:58 AM) From what I read, it was more that she didn't seem to know Libya was in Africa. She said something like, Obama took us into Libya, now he wants to take us into Africa. As Balta said, with Bachmann, that is pretty far down the list of scary for her. If that's the case, that means she just didn't know which country the LRA is located in. I'll admit, I'd have to check myself.
  8. A university a couple counties over from there is hiring for a Geologist this year!
  9. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 07:47 AM) Did Bachmann call Africa a country? Eh, I can tolerate that one if it happened. Not nearly as frightening as the vaccine crap.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 08:31 AM) They can sit on him, but would have to pay him $7.5 million with what his contract reads with a bonus. That's some money that could be spent paying over slot. What is his contract like if they were to sit on him through say, the end of January? Leave the Cubs GM-less through the entire offseason then drop their price?
  11. QUOTE (Real @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 03:23 AM) Per MLB network just now Jed Hoyer (rumored to be) leaving Padres to join Epstein in Cubs FO @_@ edit: this makes the AGon deal look even MORE like tampering/intentionally damaging ones own system That's really hard to believe...a guy taking a demotion to go work for the Cubs?
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 06:45 AM) The only reason for Buerhle to go less than $10 is for a three year deal. I also would be surprised if there wasn't some sort of option for a third year. Really what I want to see is the Sox offer him what Wakefield has except at $12 mil.
  13. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) Twenty over two years or twenty a year? The latter wouldn't make sense. I envision him getting about 12 a year. I want to see Stewart get a shot. I apparently only saw him when he didn't suck, though. Seriously, he needs to be at AAA to start the year. I like him...but Charlotte is the best place for him in April.
  14. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 09:16 PM) So it would be best to report no information than one side of a story if that is all he has? It's bizarre that you believe less information is better. Kenny Williams has a spy in the clubhouse. Why the hostility toward Cowley? As a legit reporter, if he only has one side of the story, Cowley would have every right and ability to respond to those statements with additional skeptical questions regarding the other sides position. If Ozzie were to decline to answer those questions, then he could then report Ozzie refused to answer them. Reporting one side is ok, but that is not good journalism.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 07:33 PM) Yeah I hear ya, I was hoping that having my ipad with me on the road I could get around this issue. Having more call reliability is pretty big at this point. It sounds like you're doing a good job of selling yourself on Verizon.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 07:18 PM) Plenty of spies in that clubhouse... They just all had the last name Guillen... Ozzie, Ozzie Jr, Oney, Ozney, and Joe. We signed Jose Guillen?
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 06:54 PM) Well, my company generally pays for this, plus I was going to get into a family plan so it would be cheaper regardless. I guess the unlimited data is cool with spring, VZW only gives you 12 gigs which seems like alot. Really sounds like you're leaning towards VZN, I think they're 2 gb for the public, unless your company has a specific plan with them that has 12. Like I said, I'd be with VZN for the coverage map if my employer had a choice. Anyway, more S*** Siri Says.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 06:49 PM) I do get dropped calls, which I think is the norm. What makes me angry about ATT is that it can show full bars alot of the time, but you cannot make a damn phone call. Everyone who has verizon doesnt complain all that much, however I hear Sprint still sucks on the coverage/cust serv aspects. I'm open for suggestions, I will be iphone regardless. Is it worth switching? Take a look at the money would be my next suggestion.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) Ok, so a pleasant surprise today, confirmed my contract with ATT is over. Soooo.... I think I am going to switch to Verizon. Any thoughts here? I can get the new iphone for somewhat cheap and supposedly better service right? Are you particularly unhappy with AT&T's service? Verizon certainly has better coverage but the speeds aren't usually significantly different; on an iPhone, AT&T might well win slightly on that issue. Have you run into unusual trouble with AT&T because of where you live, or do you move outside their 3G network very often? Also worth considering Sprint if you happen to be interested in an unlimited data plan, they are offering that on the 4S. Personally I'd be a Verizon user if I had a choice, but that's because I know VZN gives me solid coverage in backcountry areas from experience, and because I hate AT&T's products in general. If you don't need backcountry coverage though, there are benefits to the others.
  20. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 06:36 PM) Problem is the spy got a longer contract than the new manager. If that employee was the most valuable person in the office, he or she damn well better get a longer contract than the replacement.
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) Most GM's ask the manager instead of having a spy run up to their office. Most GM's can trust their manager.
