  1. Howard appears to have popped his ankle coming out of the box on the last play
  2. 3 hit clinching game shutout on the road. Carp just earned that entire contract extension. Bye Phillies!
  3. Utley first pitch out to te wall in cf.
  4. Utley, pence, and Howard versus carp, needing at least 1. This is a classic.
  5. LaRussa gets 2 men on and insists on the bunt...with Pujols on deck. Takes the bat out of Alberts hands.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 10:29 PM) He should have at least ONE guy he's VERY (personally) comfortable working with...like Maddon has Martinez. Obviously, he's probably on good terms with Harold and Cooper, but is that enough? Think if you were named to run a company, wouldn't you bring at least one close and trusted advisor with you instead of letting all of the terms and conditions of your staff be dictated by that future employer? The close trusted advisors he's worked with the last 5 years manage high school.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 08:43 PM) Not sure if this was posted yet, but Paul Konerko pretty much silences the doubters. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...rtnerId=rss_cws Yeah, because we were so expecting Konerko to come out and rip management. I mean he does so all the time.
  8. Cards grab the early lead off Roy again
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 07:06 PM) Plus I should have added that without CQ and PK hitting where would we have been in the standings? Quentin hit for about 4 months out of that 3 year period.
  10. Add in Thomas and that would be one Hell of an early 90's infield.
  11. Happy 10th anniversary.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 08:10 PM) And JR really could buy into the dysfunction of the organization being over-ridden by the additions of Dunn and Jesse Crain? Is/was he actually that naive? I don't think he blames Ozzie for the dysfunction. Ozzie was his guy...it can't be his fault.
  13. Ah, money laundering.

  15. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 05:37 PM) Balta: And that seems to be the problem yes? I mean, look how long it took to fire Walker? And hell, that only came when Ozzie was fired/quit. My frustration is that I don't see this in other organizations: hell even the CUBS have finally seen the light that losing = not marketable. Put another way: how long do you think Bears fans would put up with this? Wasn't it a given that Lovie was toast had the Bears not gone to the playoffs last year? And the time frame was similar, in that he took them to the Super Bowl relatively recently, a year after the Sox won the WS. But what I most don't get is how the crippling attendance figures haven't shaken some sense into the organization. I've been to some empty games before but that last Sunday home game this year was a ghost town. In fact, most of the season the games were pretty empty. I felt bad for the vendors. Who knows? Maybe he's making so much cash off the Bulls that there's no urgency. My interpretation of this whole set of boondoggles is that it tells me KW really doesn't have decision making authority beyond a certain point. I think that the Chairman is basically running most everything. KW gives him 2 outlines last offseason, one "All in" and one "Cutting back" and the Chairman realizes that cutting back means Ozzie is gone...so he accepts KW's "All in" outline to try to save Ozzie. That's the only rational reason why I wouldn't have fired KW...if he hadn't made the decisions. And this managerial hiring screams of "you have contracted VDN" to me. The Chairman picked his manager in 04, gave him every opportunity to succeed with his own money, replaced him with another of his guys.
  16. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) I have to admit, this thread is better with pictures
  17. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 05:26 PM) So the slogan should have been "All In... Unless That Means Next Year." Ugh. I am so not looking forward to 2012 if nobody's ass is on the line. Nobody's ass is on the line except Jake Peavy, Gordon Beckham, and either of Quentin/Danks that we keep. Certainly no one in the front office.
  18. Clearly, if KW is surviving past 2011, then it was not "All in" in terms of KW, so no, it's not do or die for him in 2012 either.
  19. It's just a joke! Like when the tea party shows up outside of Obama's speeches with mock assault rifles! Hilarity!
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) "Adam Dunn has just homered in 57 straight games." I'd be content with "2".
  21. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) If he surrounds himself with good people I think he will do well. He doesn't need 'yes' men, but baseball men. Be nice to have a manager we can understand for once also. Really?
