  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 08:02 PM) He made them in June and started hitting better. Then he went back to sucking. I'm not going to buy into him being a good hitter again until he proves to me he can have more than a couple of good games in a row. He showed no pop in june though. Darted getting more hits but on weak ground balls.
  2. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) ha! Nice to see him swinging away for a change, not chasing bad pitches early or trying to dink it to RF. Dude has pop. That was almost Lillibridge-distance
  3. Clearly he doesnt have the power to be in the bigs.
  4. Brents OPS GOES UP!!!!
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) Gavin really bouncing back nicely today. The curve looks sharp. Saved me from typing this.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 06:41 PM) Which means in reality it is negative. Clearly this means we need to cut spending more. Only way to appease the bond markets.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 07:15 PM) If he keeps hitting like this I wonder if the Yankees would take him off our hands/payroll. No, but they don't need an outfielder do they? Gardner Granderson Swisher
  8. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 07:21 PM) The proper way to handling a young pitcher is gradually go up around 30 innings each year anything more your taking a huge risk. Look how Matt Latos is doing this year with the Padres. They abused him last year. If Stewart pitches 160-170 innings this year. Then he should be good for 190-200 innings for our 5th starter and that would work, but I think Kenny is counting on him to be more than a 5th starter. Which is why putting sale in the bullpen this year was a mistake, but were past that now. If we don't need a closer, then we need to try to get him back to 150 innings next year.
  9. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) I think it was Fathom (but not 100%) who said by being "all in" for 2011 basically meant we were "all in" for 2012 (giving this as the reason with all the money committed for 2012). I actually believe this- let's see how we finish up this year in the standings. No doubt in my mind, however, we will trade away D1 in the offseason but most likely for near ready 400k a year guys who have a chance to contribute immediately (like Danks as a 21 yr old in 2007) and not ones a few years away so we can try and rebuild on the run. If we trade D1 and insist on a guy who's ready to contribute, it's not going to be a guy who can step in and make a huge difference.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 06:22 PM) His slider is untouchable. Might be the most dominating pitch a Sox pitcher has had in our lifetime. Somewhere amongst the catch-all there's an ESPN post suggesting that Sergio's slider is the most dominant single pitch in MLB this year.
  11. The inflation-adjusted 10 year Treasury is now at 0%.
  12. QUOTE (Nyx81 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 06:01 PM) I think it ends up being a lighthouse. Have you even watched it? His soulmate was Marge. It was cute.
  13. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) I know it's been said that we'll "cut to 100M" but I am not buying it. I think JR and gang are making a bit more than they claim they are, and they'll find a way to be around 120 next year. Just a hunch. If they're at $120 million next year, then we're still in trouble. We have $88 million committed to 11 guys. Add in arbitration figures for Danks and Quentin ($9 mil and $7 mil), Frasor's option, and $4 million or so for 10 guys making the minimum, and we're already at or over $110 million with no additions or changes to the roster. If M-56 were to be brought back, then we are right back in the $120-$125 range with this team as-is.
  14. If we're looking at a "Cut to $100 million" order, do you guys have better ideas?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) Crain has sucked for the last month. His stuff is just flat and his location has been wanting. If you want to blame Ozzie for overusing him, that's fine. Basically, Crain's 2011 season is starting to look like Linebrink's 2008. Crain has done this for a couple years. He gets in these funks where he seemingly can't get anyone out. We beat him in one of those funks a year or two ago I believe. There's a reason he doesn't put up ERA's of 1.50 every year, it's these "crain games" that happen to him every now and then. It's also probably why he's never going to close.
  16. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 04:16 PM) That 90's Show, Ralph for Mayor, and others have all been good and thats just the last 2-3 seasons. There have been plenty of great episodes in the last 10. I think the Simpson's demise has been overrated, some episodes are good, some not so much. Well, part of the issue is that there have been some horrible, horrible, "I want that 30 minutes" back episodes along with any good ones, and the other part is that you're comparing it to the best 10 season run for any TV show ever.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) Morel is very underwhelming and has braincramps all the time. no more than any other rookie

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 04:39 PM) On the surface, that looks like a rotation that's capable of winning 72-78 games. Sale is the obvious question mark. He's either an ace or everything falls apart and he goes back to the pen. No in-between seemingly. For KW's sake, he better be more like Randy Johnson than Rick Ankiel. With Adam Dunn and Alex Rios and Gordon Beckham and Brent Morel putting up OPS numbers in the .600's, yeah, that's a rotation capable of winning 72-78 games...I think they certainly could do better, but they are young. We need some offense from the guys we currently have. We've already blown our money on that offense. If it doesn't perform, then we're SOL either way...we don't have the money to blow on a pitching staff upgrade from this season.

After this season, I don't know if the Season Ticket Holders would by "Pujols". Frankly, we need to stop making decisions based on what season ticket holders want, if we've made any. If that young rotation with a lot of upside in its arms gives us a good chance to compete next year and build for the next 2-3, then it's a mistake to care about season ticket owners. They'll regret losing their seats if you put a winning team out there.
  20. Pirates acquire Lee, Ludwick to bolster 2nd half collapse.
  21. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) Wonder if it might be best for PK to go on the DL to be ready for the stretch run. He'll still be able to take BP and keep his swing. Can Dayan play 1st? Viciedo doesn't seem any healthier than PK14 right now.
  22. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) We are in Baltimore. Might as well win this game. Why not? lol! Ho-Ho ho! Santa?
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) I really can't answer that without knowing if Buehrle will be here next year, and if he is, how much he'll be paid. Which is part of why this is such a tricky situation. And if you sign Buehrle...it makes trading D1 much harder, because it becomes crystal clear that keeping him is not an option.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) If the Sox can agree to a reasonable extension with Danks, I'd be fine with that. I don't see any way that can happen though, he seems to have zero interest in a long-term deal here unless we pay way more than we seem willing or prepared to. The number in this thread was Buehrle money, probably with some inflation in there. I'd actually have called 5/$75 a bargain for him coming into this season, and he probably still can beat that on the open market. Would you do 5/$72 for him (with a small drop due to signing him 1 year before he hits FA)?
