  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) That is, by far, the most overdramatic thing I've ever read on CNN. I bet the author was one of those guys who said he'd move to Canada if Bush was re-elected in 2004. You do realize that CNN.com carries some opinion writers, right?
  2. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) Why the f*** would you buy season tickets for the WhiteSox? You can sit damn near anywhere you want at any game and tickets are always available Kudos to those that use their money for it, but it makes no sense to me If you go to a bunch of games, it knocks your price per game way down, and guarantees you good seats for the hard-to-get-to games.
  3. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) He doesn't get to play enough. Not saying he should. He was batting something like .270 ish last year. He knows how to hit. I remember he hit a triple sometime this year, how many triples do the SOX have this year? He moved Pierre into 3rd for the first run last night did he not? Could you trust ARAM2 with that task in the 2 hole? I'd say you are concentrating on the negatives too much. OV is a decent bat. Omar Vizquel has as many triples this season as AJ Pierzynski.
  4. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) For me it is. To get my vote, you must unwavering conservative views. You must have remained faithful to your wife. You must have served in the military. You don't have to do these if you don't want my support. So it's been a long time since you voted for anything.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 02:12 PM) All GLI is saying is that risking one's life in a volunteer army is more admirable and remarkable than paying taxes that one only has input on paying indirectly through elections. No one, and I mean no one is going to dispute that.
  6. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) I wasn't going to sit back while people tried to give credit for the military's excellence to everyone except the Soldiers themselves. This isn't about me, this is about defending Soldiers. But you wouldn't know anything about that. You're doing an awful job of defending soldiers.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) Please. If KW had pulled what he's pulled off you'd be the same way. Every Sox fan would be. A record 2 games over .500, cheating allegations, and a pitching staff that would be at the bottom of the AL if it weren't for Baltimore and 3 teams in the AL Central?
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) No reason to sell, actually. My mom likes to write off losses every once in a while against her taxes. Personally, CISCO is the only one I don't think has much of a shot to recover...it has been parked in that same range for a decade. Trying to figure out where to invest about $20,000-30,000 where she'll get a good rate of return, some type of bond fund....6-8% or so. Right now it's getting 0.01%!!! Was just researching OHYAX, DVHYX, DHOAX, JIHDX and RYHDX. Most of her money is at Vanguard, American Century, Legg Mason and Oakmark Funds. Alcatel, AIG, LSI Logic, Cisco, Nortel....those stocks are pretty much buried forever. Just sitting there at massive losses. Cisco at $74.59 per share, and that's the best of these former high-flying tech stocks (well, AIG's another story). Cisco is up 15% on the day so far,.
  9. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) Balta, I went to infantry officer training with several foreign nationals. To say they were on par with the Americans in the same course would be an outright lie. Just from my own observations. But that anecdote doesn't answer the question...and presumably there are different backgrounds represented there as well, in terms of educational achievement/language skills, etc.
  10. Beckham doesn't have the signs telling him when an offspeed pitch is coming.
  11. If you gave a Chinese national, French National, or Russian national, the exact same level of training, funding, and equipment given a U.S. national, would they be inherentlyl worse soldiers because they're not U.S. nationals?
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) Trout/Kipnis or Mitchell/Thompson? 20/20 hindsight or 20/10 hindsight?
  13. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 11:44 AM) I am sure healthy players have been put on the DL in the past especially 15 days before rosters expand. He fell over his gym bag and twisted his knee. I don't think the White Sox are going to be the first team in recent memory to get called out for lying to get a guy onto the Dl.
  14. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) I get your point, but its more than just a parliamentary-like referendum on the incumbent, and for many still ultimately comes down to can X do a better job in the future than Y is doing now. This general is once again going to be dominated by the economy, where many feel that O has failed to fix (or worsened) an economic mess that he inherited from W. It can't be that great a thing for Perry to remind people of or come across as W 2.0, who many still blame for creating this mess in the first place. Its got to be a bit of a handicap in selling folks on a positive future if you vividly remind them of a negative past. Perry can just repeat his mantra about how Texas created more jobs than any other state, regardless of whether they're all minimum wage or stimulus funded, and no one will call him on it.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) Leadoff hitter has to come from LF, it seems. If it's not Lilly/DeAza/Milledge next year...what players are out there on the FA market? Guessing there's not much out there of interest. Moral of Story: Turn your 5 year old into a speedy/slappy leadoff hitter, catcher or LH pitcher Here's your current list. Scrolling through the OF options, the only name that popped out to me was Coco Crisp.
  16. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 10:50 AM) I really think they need to DL Dunn and bring up Viciedo and then Dunn can watch from the bench in Sepetemeber and stay home for the playoffs. That was a big game last night and he continues to simply be an embarassment of epic proportion. He is f***ing Julio Ramirez without the defense. Dunn isn't hurt. That would make DLing him difficult. I've gotten the impression from the Tribune that there would be an objection to DLing Dunn for a random excuse. Viciedo also appears to still be struggling with his hand. Etiher that or he's in a horrid, hand related slump.
  17. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) I finally saw a clip of this guy on the news this morning, as he is apparently ready to declare this weekend. In the brief soundbite they showed, he really sounded like and reminded me of a young W (not just the Texas drawl, but his rhythm, cadence and prose). I understand that he is currently one of the GOP favorites, but I can't see those similarities being the greatest of assets in a general election. When there's an incumbent, I don't really think that the general election is about the opponent as much as it is about the incumbent.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 03:17 AM) Okay guys, who do you want to trade or "dump" to clear enough salary to sign a leadoff hitter? Someone will have to go. Danks? Not sign Buehrle? Quentin? Floyd? Thornton? What position does this hypothetical leadoff hitter play?
