Dunn on Bench: 3 Hits, 1 Run
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 08:19 PM) Hey, I never threw out a comparison between the two. You did that. Is it too much to ask for league-average or close to league-average production from a 24-year old? What's sad is 3B production is down all around baseball. Yet Morel is nowhere close. In a rookie? It's possible, but highly unlikely that you get league-average production out of him, and you don't build your lineup expecting that, and you absolutely don't sit around complaining when the rookie takes time do develop. The Sox didn't build a lineup which relied on Morel.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) Yup. Tea Party Ru-paul, despite their rhetoric trying as hard as they can to make that stick. But go ahead and try to run with that so you can get your ass kicked at the ballot box again, because "Tea Party" is actually more of a majority, not a minority, in that they want smaller government, less government intrusion, no Obamacare, and actually dealing with social programs on a manageable level. Yea, I know, whackos, especially for people like you who think that government is the only thing that can solve your issues for you. The Ron Paul nuts are a symptom of the larger group. When they're active and turning out, the rest of your base is. The Democratic base stayed home in 2010, and they're even more distressed right now. Bout the only thing that might bring them out is nominating someone like Bachmann...someone who really scares them. And IMO, the people don't care about the government, they want jobs. You've done a wonderful job of blaming the lack of jobs on too much government, but since there's no where else in the economy that will grow in the next 5 years while consumers deleverage, the less government will be less jobs. but then you'll just blame that on the government again.

Dunn on Bench: 3 Hits, 1 Run
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) Dude, are we seriously comparing Hosmer/Morel? There is no comparison. Watching Morel, the only hope one could have going forward is that it would be almost impossible to be as bad as he's been this year. If each of their OPS's rose by 150 points, wouldn't that be where they're supposed to be?

Official 2011-2012 NCAA Football Thread
QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 05:53 PM) Part of me wants Mizzou to jump to the SEC so I can be one of the pompous a-holes bragging about how much better my school's conference is, but for the most part I don't want to go 7-5 every year. If Auburn can pull off an SEC win, doesn't that pretty much mean almost any team in the SEC (other than Kentucky and Vandy) can legitimately win that conference?

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 07:50 PM) I know, but this is going to fire up the whacko's. Fired up whackos is a good thing for your party. It makes your base turn out. It's how you won in 2010.

Dunn on Bench: 3 Hits, 1 Run
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) .756 to be exact. And he's shown enough to expect an increase in productivity going forward. I don't have this unrealistic illusion that every top prospect that comes up needs to produce like Dwight Gooden or Miguel Cabrera. So, the other team's prospect gets enough credit to expect an increase in productivity going forwards, but the White Sox one does not. Riiiiiiiiiight.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) I hope you're right, honestly. Barack is better then Ron Paul. I can't believe I'm saying that. The guy is fanatical. Ron Paul won't win the Republican nomination. That's about the only thing in that race that I'm sure of.

Dunn on Bench: 3 Hits, 1 Run
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 07:12 PM) Hosmer and Crow have had no problems to this point. If you want to call out the guys that have struggled, give credit to the guys that have held their own. An OPS in the low .700's is "no problems"?

AJ out until maybe Tue
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 07:39 PM) Does he have a worse throwing arm than AJ? This is a legitimate question. The couple times I've seen him try to throw out a basestealer I was like wtf? He's 3/9 throwing out runners.

Financial News
It's the Washington Post, so take it for what its worth, but this was at least a provocative read. I'm not sure it's accurate that the U.S. is actually taking in more oil than it did in say, 2008, but it's probably accurate to say that we are using more expensive sources, like the Canadian tar sands, much more heavily.

Newt Gingrich had one of those moments of honesty that the Conservatives at this site don't allow themselves. No wonder they don't like him.

Dunn on Bench: 3 Hits, 1 Run
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) Brett Morel is not a Major League hitter. Brent Morel has hit .290 in the major leagues for 3.5 months with improving slugging as time goes on.

2011 Films Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) agreed. Bloodsport, Cobra, Any Chuck Norris movie, Face/off, The Rock, Con-Air, all of those movies are meant to be watched with suspended disbelief and a smile. Pretty much the same way I watched Transformers There's a good level of "disbelief" movie and a bad level of it. For example; Transformers 1: good level. Transformers 2: Bad Level. Sometimes the obscure things, like a guy's accent that just won't go away, can push things from one group to the other.

Dunn on Bench: 3 Hits, 1 Run
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) Brett Morel's ceiling is a Joe Randa-type player. I don't know if you wait around two years for a possible Joe Randa. Third Base still should be considered a priority. If you've got $100 million to spend and $88 million already committed before arbitration, then 3rd base is no where near a priority. Morel ought to have that job locked up already, just from what he's shown this year.

London Riots
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 07:57 PM) He's just a dumb extremist British politician using this as an excuse to tar policies he's railed against for decades with s***ty arguments. The riots are going to result in using this authoritarian crack-downs in the UK. they're already talking about limiting social networking sites. Pretty hilarious given how vital of a role they played in the Arab Spring and how their ability to thwart oppressive governments' attempts to block communication was widely cheered in the West. San Francisco BART shuts down cell service to try to cut off protests over that police shooting a few months ago. Some reports out there say that this move may have been illegal on their part.

Dunn on Bench: 3 Hits, 1 Run
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) Brett Gardner at his worst had value as a 4th OF'er who could play center and run. Morel doesn't have near his versatility. Which is why they dumped their catching prospects. After all, how versatile is a young catching prospect? That's why they dumped Phil hughes and Joba Chamberlain also. They don't have the time to spend years developing these guys into something useful and consistent. Man the return they got on those trades must have been incredible.

Dunn on Bench: 3 Hits, 1 Run
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) Bulls***. I never said that Beckham/Morel had to be Cano/Longoria. I wiped the slate clean with Beckham coming into this year. Suffice it to say he's failed miserably. Morel? He's been Chone Figgins bad. I don't agree with picking on the guys that make a lot of money and making excuses for the guys that make 500K. You ain't part of the solution, you're part of the problem. In that case, you need to stop paying attention to prospects, period. Because they're almost never part of the solution right out of the gate.

Dunn on Bench: 3 Hits, 1 Run
Yup. KC's hitting coach. That's a team where they're killing the ball and all their guys are developing like crazy.

Dunn on Bench: 3 Hits, 1 Run
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) Where do you get this idea that I pimp every single prospect from every single team? Both the guys you've named have been disappointments this year. Matt Wieters has been the biggest disappointment of them all. He's a stud defensively. But offensively he's lacking. Oh, so you only pimp Blue Jays prospects other than the ones who struggle, I see. If you pay any attention to this game at all...the number of guys who come up, succeed right away, wind up making all star teams, and then never go through a period of struggling is miniscule, yet you expect exactly that from the White Sox, and you judge the fact that this doesn't happen to be a fireable offense. By your standards Justin Verlander would be an utter disappointment because he put up an ERA of nearly 5 in 2008.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) Omar...? God why. Because Beckham doesn't deserve to be in there either. Neither of them should be hitting about 8th though.
