  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) Agreed. The Bears are gonna f***ing blow. 2007 all over again.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:57 AM) Ozzie's use of Peavy this year has been horrible. Talk about not knowing your personnel And Ohman. And Humber. And Teahen. And Morel. Who else am I forgetting?
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 02:17 PM) You are arguing against yourself now. Match ups are more important than talent levels. How many years have the White Sox been more talented tahn the Twins or the Twins more talented than the Yankees?
  4. QUOTE (The '05 Sound @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Good! Now when Lilli replaces him in the 6th we will know whats up. That he's hurt again and therefore untradeable?
  5. By the way, isn't "there's too much uncertainty because of Obama" a standard Republican explanation for why the economy is so bad? Wouldn't an extra government shutdown crisis be yet another element of uncertainty? Anyway, the Senate would probably pass a short term extension if it came down to it, but they're not passing Boehner's bill, which sticks in a trigger that would guarantee huge cuts to Medicare and Social Security if Obama didn't make huge cuts to Medicare and Social Security.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) A balanced budget amendment is stupid at the federal level. There I said it. (Handshake).
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) If he doesn't regress any at all for the next month I'd guess he's here in September though. If for nothing else than as a defensive replacement Is Charlotte on pace for any playoffs? If not, yeah he'll be up and playing some, but he's not going to earn a starting job for next year, and it seems really unlikely that they'll keep him on the roster as a backup OF instead of giving him 500 more minor league at bats (unless something crazy happens and D1 offers a huge discount for his brother being in the bigs).
  8. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:48 AM) Oh, I agree that change is needed. I was hoping for a massive overhaul this winter (and not more of the unsustainable retooling-on-the-fly crap that hasn't worked over the past 2 1/2 years), and was pretty surprised that they decided to ADD payroll and sign Dunn instead. So, yeah, I'm completely on board with you here. I just think that doing it while 3 games out in July, in a bad division, and with a very talented lineup whose productivity has nowhere to go but up is crazy. Why not wait until December to move guys like Quentin and Danks? Sure, you'll get a little less for them than right now, but you're still going to get decent value for those guys. And there's the added bonus of no PR hit from giving up mid-season. You've got to admit, holding Quentin for another 2 months is always a risk because of injury. D1, ok, hold him unless someone offers the moon, especially since he's already had a down season and a stellar 2 months could make him look even better. Quentin? That's a more iffy question, it's hard to expect him to perform better than this, he's always a health risk, and there are seemingly multiple teams in competition for him to help win now. That's a real good place to be in from the perspective of doing the deal now. Oh, and the replacement for Carlos has been ready for at least a month. That figures in also.
  9. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:35 AM) is pence a lot better than quentin? since you hear more about the phills and braves fightining over him and not much about quentin Slightly lower OPS but big defensive performance compared to Q.

  11. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) It's difficult to predict rosters in 2012, but Danks has a good chance of making Sox roster. Pierre figures to be gone, Lillibridge ????, Danks can play CF and seems to be improving and will be verry cheap. The Elf will be around unless traded, he's proven to be an excellent backup so far, and D2 hasn't clearly outhit him. I'd guess that, unless D2 suddenly flashed enough in these next 2 months to convince everyone that his K-rate has dropped dramatically, he'll get one more shot at Charlotte next year as a starter. After that, who knows, D1 will probably be gone anyway.
  12. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) So basically, he's doing what Republicans should want him doing. Staying out of most of it but endorsing deals that he thinks are best. Of course, every time he endorses a deal, his endorsement immediately kills any chance of the House voting for it.
  13. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) judging by what has gone on so far, there is no chance that happens. The difference with the Reid plan is that nearly (or perhaps all) of the Democrats would vote for it to get it done. That means only 30-ish Republicans are needed instead of 215.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:14 AM) Nothing there Click on the "View History" tab near the top right hand side and look at the older versions.
  15. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) At this point, the only thing holding up a deal is Mitch McConnell whipping up seven votes for cloture (not even passage) on the Reid/McConnell plan Z. The Reid plan will pass in the house, I can't imagine that by the time this bill gets to the house on Sunday night or Monday, that the Democrats couldn't peel away 30 Republican congressmen. Boehner doesn't have to bring it to the floor for a vote though, does he? If he did, he might as well resign at this point.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) The Brewers are about to lose one of the elite run producers in the game after the season due to finances. You think they're going to claim Rios and pick up the rest of his contract? This very well and probably is BS. But if there's a shred of truth to this and we really want Rios gone, we're eatin' some money. A LOT of money. That's why there's potentially a grain of truth here. We still might be able to get a team to take on a nonzero amount of Rios's deal.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:06 AM) Is treason clearly defined anywhere?
  18. Finally got the paper this morning. It looks like they've mostly repeated analyses from their previous papers. One interesting note...usually even if you have an anonymous reviewer, you thank the anonymous reviewer for their assistance in the acknowledgments. No reviewers are mentioned in this paper. Don't have time to actually go through it this morning.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) No vote on Boehner's plan tonight, as many as four votes short of passing a bill that has zero chance in the Senate or of being signed into law. He's got to make it more right-wing to pass the House. Wow, I'm somewhat surprised but really shouldn't be. He could, of course, just bring 30 votes and accept the Reid plan without the Social Security and Medicare triggers.
  20. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 08:27 AM) They just need to re-sign Danks and be done with it. When is the last time the Yankees traded a prospect who was any good? Their farm team used to be here in Columbus and their minor league players are always vastly overrated. I remember when Kevin Maas was the 2nd coming of Lou Gehrig and don't forget about the greatest power hitter since Babe Ruth, Steve Baboni. The Pirates are in the race in the NL Central thanks to former Yankee farmhands.
  21. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 07:29 AM) Well my post obviously meant with our current bullpen available. Against a LH batter? I'd take Ohman happily. Despite a bad start to the year lefties are hitting .200 against him, .588 OPS.
  22. Yeah, that's like reading that the white sox are after Jiminez. We might be able to do it with Viciedo, Sale, Beckham, and Santos. The Tigers could probably get him by dealing Cabrera. I'm sure the Rockies would even send Todd Helton back to fill the Tigers 1b hole.
  23. You know, I just thought that this is our first real chance to see how a guy does being coached by Coop then immediately coached by Duncan.
