  1. 1 hit and 3 BB today for Dunn. This last week is sorta what Dunn is supposed to look like, except with 1 or 2 of those Cleveland fly balls actually leaving the park.
  2. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) There are obviously different sets of advantages and disadvantages for pitchers in each league. If your logic was correct, why haven't Halladay and Lee just completely dominated the NL with the Phillies? They do have the best record in baseball and the largest lead of any division leader.
  3. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) If the Dems propose a bill that has real actual spending cuts in it, somethgin that has some teeth and not smoke and mirrors, I will listen. Even if it has 'tax increases', even though you can bet your ass it won't be on just people earning over $250k. I would be more in favor if he also added a tax onthe poor, even if just $20 or something. No wonder a certain percentage favor tax increases when half the country has, to quote our President, 'no skin in the game'. Easy to take from others. Perhaps that poll should be done only of those that actually paid taxes. I wonder what that ratio would look like..... I'm genuinely impressed, it took less than 6 hours from a person posting the graph showing that a person with an income of $7000 a year still pays a 5% federal tax rate until a person repeated this blatant falsehood. I thought it would take weeks.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) We may or may not default on bonds. Hard to say since there's no mechanism in place for legally deciding who not to pay, because no other group of politicians has ever intentionally desired to destroy our economy in order to get policy changes and constitutional amendments. I think it's highly likely that Geithner will continue making bond payments if we get pushed this far. At least for the near future it's talking about amounts ~$50 billion, not trillions. The mess is going to be the rest. The ratings agencies could easily cut the status of U.S. debt based solely on the fact that they couldn't meet their obligations, or that they couldn't come to a deal. S&P has threatened to do just that. That alone would throw the system into chaos, even if the U.S. never misses a bond interest payment, because of the mandatory AAA capital requirements. Then there's the state/local government payouts made by the government, which, if they dried up, would cause legitimate bond defaults rippling through the country, because construction bonds would actually come due with no money to pay them.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) Our bullpen? No, you couldn't They were pretty bad in April and have been quite good ever since. Clearly I'm referring to the Tigers bullpen.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) That was obviously sarcasm Not necessarily. You could legitimately argue they're the 2nd worst in baseball.
  7. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) Is Ozzie f***ing serious? It's not even like he gets questioned in hindsight anymore, literally every time this happens EVERYONE knows its coming. This may be our best run of saying "ozzie is doing something stupid" right before something bad happens since he got the job.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) The worst in baseball. By what standard? Minnesota's pen has more losses and a worse ERA, and given up an OPS 0.027 higher.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:05 PM) It has to be. At least our manager is consistent.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) Which is what I meant when I said he's not a utility infielder. He's basically a DH you can trot out to field maybe once per week at 1B. He'll be playing 3b for the Tigers regularly.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) We never really gave him the chance. He could always hit a little bit, but we treated him like a utility infielder, which he is not... He also couldn't catch a ball to save his life.
  12. QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:58 PM) A possible CQ trade or the Jackson trade? The Jackson trade, I mean. We'd be losing this game without that trade.
  13. QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) Will a win today make Kenny less obliged to trade? I hope not.... If a win happens today, it only happens because of this trade.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) The funny part is that I told you that Omar would be the starter if morel had been benched. Of course. Prospects develop best on the bench.
  15. He single handedly won a game for the Sox in Toronto in April 2010.
  16. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:49 PM) I have this fear Kenny will trade him for someone like Tori Hunter. No one would trade for him. We picked him up of waivers in the first place.
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:39 PM) I'll just say that we might have been able to get more for Jackson, but this deal (ignoring the possibility to land Rasmus instead) is pretty decent. We rid ourselves of the garbage that is Teahen and apparently Frasor is a type B, which offsets losing the picks for Jackson. And I believe Frasor even has a club option for next season if we choose to hold onto him. Yes, he has a $3.5 million option last year. If the Sox decline his option and offer arbitration, his figure for this year is $2.65 million. He ought to be able to beat that in FA...unless they're dismantling or he puts up an ERA of 7 with Chicago I'd expect that option picked up.
  18. The speaker of the House, describing his own caucus.
  19. Anyone who's watching, what kind of range did Ale Alejandro just show?
  20. QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) De Aza = 2011 version of DeWayne Wise De Aza is a much more talented version of Wise.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) And while I am patting myself on the back like a jackass... I was also right about why teahen was playing all of the time. Yup. Great to see Brent Morel back in the lineup todaaaaaaa......
  22. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) Morel goes 3 for 4 and sits for 2 days. Got it. Against Verlander I understand it. But he's clearly moved into the "Platoon" role in Ozzie's head, regardless of the splits. There's nothing that will change this.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) Well, Rios and Viciedo. Morel, Alexei, Beckham, Konerko. Rios...if we had someone good enough to push him to the bench right now, he'd go there. Wer'e going to see a platoon soon. Gordon Beckham is starting to look like he'll get 1 year of arbitration and then become a non-tender candidate. Morel needs to pick it up. Alexei...expensive, locked in, possibly moveable in a true fire sale. Konerko, 2.5 years.
