  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) Didn't he throw a rehab start last weekend? Beats me, I was traveling. Did he?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) Again if it were that easy, you could look at M1 and know what was on the feds books. Of course, that depends on how you value the assets they have on their books. If only we had someone to explain Mark 2 Market valuations to us.
  3. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) within a week I believe I'd assume they'd have to do a rehab start with how lonng he's been down?
  4. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) I don't think the organization views him that highly. I'm still not sold. They're probably having CJ Retherford flashbacks.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 11:55 AM) Kind of tough to close a game when you walk the first 3 batters on 13 pitches I feel like that's pretty much a normal game for him except no one swung.
  6. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) Anybody that thinks we can lose Rios at this point is on crack. If Vernon Wells is moveable for actual return, then anything is possible.
  7. What's D1's schedule?
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) No way to both. Especially the latter. Hasn't there been almost a complete turnover of that org aside from the GM since they last had commander chaos?
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) That Super Bowl team was legit, but last year's was a fluke. They needed one playoff victory over the 7-9 Seahawks to get to the NFC Title Game. Oh man, that NFC Championship Game was f***ing torture. And as others pointed out, they were right with the packers despite Cutler hurt for a quarter, Todd Collins inserted at the QB spot for a quarter (I refuse to say "playing"), and the 3rd string QB getting picked off to seal the game.
  10. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) This will always be a head-scratcher for me. Seemed to be a lot of hurriedness/panic involved with that deal. I think someone in the clubhouse had to really not like his attitude.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) I will never understand how the Sox turned on Hudson so quickly last year. IIRC, he made three starts. One of them was dominating, and the other two were poor (mostly cause of control issues). The worst part was...you could see plainly why he was struggling with his control, because he was doing the classic rookie thing and trying to paint the corner at the knees with every pitch. He actually was controlling his pitches well, he was just too nervous to go after hitters...which happens all the time with a rookie.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 09:15 AM) You know why I've been skeptical about the "Links" of these things to cell phones? Although there has been cell phone expansion over the past few years, it's not as if there wasn't significant cell capacity a decade ago when there wasn't colony collapse disorder around. Furthermore, you'd expect geographic effects if there was a direct cell phone link...areas like around San Francisco should have huge problems while the Central Valley should be nearly spared, and I've never seen publications suggesting a geographic effect of cities on those. Same thing for the reports about brain damage. People have been using cellular phone systems for 30 years...and honestly I'd bet that the older versions were much stronger microwave emitters than the recent versions, yet we haven't seen a huge spike in brain cancer over the last decade as far as I know. There ought to be a correlation here with something...if cell phone use is causing damage, then you ought to see correlations between cell phone use and the effects of that damage, either in time or in space or based on usage. If someone came out and alleged a correlation between cell phone use and autism rates, which have skyrocketed over the past 30 years, that would intrigue me a lot more, for example.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 11:01 AM) Well your guess is as good as any when questioning the brass on moving guys up when the results don't show. Hell just this year, they moved Blanke up when he was in a 2-32 slump or something like that. Although Morel's done pretty much what I expected in the bigs this year (with a little less power), I think he and Hudson both sorta show that there's a downside risk to pushing these guys up so rapidly...that they get here and the team sours on them or the coach starts benching him because the team needs higher level performance more immediately.
  14. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:59 AM) It's only a dynasty if you win your division every year and get blown out in the first round of the playoffs silly.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:54 AM) The Federal Reserve doesn't operate in a vacuum, even if it accountants operate in ways that would make Arthur Andersen applaud. That is money that has to be paid back. No, it doesn't. That's what the Federal Reserve is. They were sitting on a trillion dollars before the crisis started and they had to print an extra $2 trillion or so out of thin air. That's the whole "Expanding the monetary base" bit. If they lose every dollar there, no one has to pay it back, the Federal Reserve can't go bankrupt, it just creates more money to cover its losses.
  16. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:49 AM) I just don't think the sox brass is as high on him as they were with say... Flowers at the time (though I can be wrong obviously). He really hasn't hit studly at any particular level since he was drafted (unless you want to count the .292/.337/.427/.764 in 89 ABs in A ball). The sox have done this before with prospects however. Hit average at a level, but push them to see if they can catch lightning in a bottle (or to work with the right hitting coach), especially for a higher pick to justify it. See, that's exactly why I think being concerned about him so far is unfair and moving him up now is a question mark...he hasn't hit great at any level, but for all practical purposes his 2010 season was a washout due to that illness.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) And he's not up for re-election so... But his policies are.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:49 AM) So in other words, all of the spending of the fed isn't known, which means it isn't included in the debt. How on Earth do you not understand the difference between the Federal Reserve spending and the National Debt? The Federal Reserve can print its own money. If it loses money it doesn't matter, except if it pushes the inflation button. It has the ability to write things off, effectively.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) Which proves that number isn't all inclusive. The Fed has way more than a trillion on its books now. The QEs alone were way bigger than that. Well yeah...because QE1 didn't buy treasuries, it bought Mortgage-backed securities and other securities from private firms.
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:42 AM) Got to see what you have in him for quite a reach of a pick (depending who you ask) at the time. Given how much injury time he took last year, I'm just not sure that now is the time to "See what we have in him". I start saying that when I'm convinced there's nothing more that a kid can learn at that level (see: Viciedo, Dayan). Phegley's pushed up so rapidly this year that I'd be easily convinced there's more he can learn at AA.
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) They can join the Sox in that "highly prestigious" group of teams that are usually good enough to compete but not very seriously. At least the Sox took advantage of their one golden opportunity. I'd say 2 NFC title game appearances and 1 super bowl appearance is pretty serious.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) And I think the GOP can easily argue that the current deficit has Obama's fingerprints all over it. And we can just as easily blame Bush.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) It would take literally minutes to subtract out other sources and be left with the Fed's numbers. You say that as though it isn't done.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:26 AM) A-Rod has the meniscus tear and surgery. Besides Jeter, who else didn't show? Rivera? Sorry, haven't been following it closely. Jeter and Rivera were on the team and simply decided not to show up, even with no injury excuse. ARod and Chipper were actually sitting in the hospital and couldn't show up. Guys like Verlander who made the team but couldn't go because their teams maneuvered them to throwing on Sunday still made the trip and appeared in the dugout.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:28 AM) If that were true, there would be no one wondering what the Fed has spent. Yes there would be. Because if the Treasury had issued $15 trillion in total debt, the Fed could be holding $8 trillion or the fed could be holding $2 trillion. It's also not necessarily the Fed's purchase of treasuries that have people worried, it's the Fed's dumping of dollars onto private companies and taking Mortgage-backed securities onto its books.
