Should the All-Star game weekend be extended to 4 days?
No 3 days is plenty.

Kenny Williams Wish List
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 11:38 PM) That is pretty ironic considering the Hawks history before the Cup year. Yeah, to get to that point, the Hawks suffered through what, probably 15 of the worst years imaginable for fans of a sports franchise?

Here on out, what do you think should be done with Sale?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 08:15 AM) Since, he's worth 10X more as an "average" left-handed starter if he can sustain his velocity for 5-6-7 innings. Otherwise, he's just a cross between Matt Thornton, Clayton Richard, Royce Ring and Aaron Poreda. How many left starters are there who throw 94-98 MPH and have at last 3 pitches in their arsenal? Think of it this way...who's worth more to another team, Matt Thornton (one of the best LH relievers in the game since we've acquired him) or Edwin Jackson? You're still going to get more of a return for Edwin, as mediocre as he's been for the past 6-8 weeks. I think if you put Matty on the market you'd still ask for a much larger return than you'd demand for Jackson. And none of those pitchers you mention are comparable to Sale in having a full starter's repertoire.

I could have swore I saw him at the futures game. Does some other team have a Gartrell?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) Their sole lefty is Boone Logan, our old friend, yes? Correct. Will Ohman would be a solid upgrade for them. Thornton would be mind blowing.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 09:24 PM) How long do you think a full rebuilding would take given the poor quality of our farm system? We'd have to suck for several years to get enough high draft picks. If you hit those, maybe you get lucky and it takes four years. If you miss on enough of those it could take a lot longer. When you start losing 90-100 games for multiple years in a row, attendance will drop and payroll will fall. With what the sox have as tradeable assets, this an be done rapidly if nothing stupid is done. The problem is getting nothing from Dunn Rios and Peavy, which is nearly $50 million. If they were just adequate and we got good returns by dealing Quentin and Danks, were right there. If the struggle, then it's 4 years.

Jerry must be so proud
Then why do y'all keep trying to draw walks? Just take the strikeout and head off to the dugout.

2011 AL Central Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) according to buster olney, the tigers and indians,1-2, have the easiest 2nd half schedules in the a.l. Of course, they have to play the central a lot and can't play themselves. There are 3 pretty weak below .500 teams in the central and no dominant team.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 08:29 PM) Bartolo Colon got hammered tonight. More and more pressure building on Cashman to make a pitching move (Jackson, Floyd, Danks, possibly Buehrle). If were selling, they could seriously use a lefty in the bullpen as well, and we have surplus.

Btw, a 4-6 year rebuilding process would be a disaster. That's "cut payroll down to $50 million" bad.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 08:33 PM) It would be, but he's a pretty nice alternative for the teams thinking about jumping in on the Fielder/Pujols sweepstakes. Short term, reasonably priced, good guy, having a huge last season and a half, the Sox could maximize a return if they aren't going to be contending and actually do Paulie a favor and steer him to a team with a chance. I don't think this is the path that they will take, but if they do, dumping Paulie is the obvious move.Of course, with the way the captain is performing, the return for him ought to be enormous before we move him.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 08:33 PM) I was told we also have to see how good Hector Santiago really is. I propose an 8 man rotation. But seriously. This year has shown Chris Sale really is a pen arm. The "he should start" stuff was all a pipe dream. I dont know why this year has shown that. His biggest problem this year has been that he's struggled to get/ keep his release point, so he loses control. If he was throwing 100+ pitches a game he might well get that release point down. He never had these kind of control problems before moving to the pen.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) Great. So far it looks like the 2011 team can turn into the 2007 team. If that's any reason to continue with Kenny it's beyond weak. Now let's be clear here...if you're firing him because of things he's done in the past that have failed, that's one thing...but you argued for replacing him based on the fact that he shouldn't be the guy here to rebuild...which is a different argument. If you're focusing on the 2nd part, that he shouldn't be the guy to do a rebuild, then it's a very strong argument because he pulled it off before, rapidly. If you're focusing on the first, then you're correct, it's beyond weak.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) They can't rebuild with the current GM and probably others in this organization. Remember, this is the GM who somehow pulled a rabbit out of his hat and turned that 2007 team into the 2008 division champions.

Roger Clemens indicted for perjury, obstruction

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 06:15 PM) Does anyone think that if the debt ceiling isn't raised and all hell breaks loose, that it will be a boost to Obama's re-election chances, almost like the Gingrich shutdown was for Bill Clinton? No, because this one would drive the economy crazy.

QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 06:08 PM) I just read both Keith Law's and BaseballAmerica's mid-season Top 50 Prospects list, and didn't see a single White Sox player. Is your guys' system really that bare...? Outside of Dayan Viciedo, who probably doesn't count on those lists any more (Service Time), yes.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) Wow it sounds like there is a pretty good chance that jeopardy has attached at this point and they won't be able to try Clemens again. How is that possible on a mistrial?
