Sox scouting Brandon Beachy
QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) I don't really get the excitement over Bourn. His career best (this year) OPS is .746. Sure he's more of a prototypical "leadoff" hitter, but he doesn't get on base all that much, and he doesn't have much power. He's a nice player to have, but I wouldn't want the Sox giving up much for him. It's a repeat of Carlos Lee for Scott Podsednik for people who ignore the salary and contract details.

Sox fielding calls for Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) Edwin Jackson AND Carlos Quentin for Rasmus Teams that have zero use for a corner OF: 1. St. Louis Cardinals.

This organization is in disarray
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) I say they fire KW and promote Hahn. There are a lot of teams who think he is the next big time GM..it would also diffuse the Oz and Kw crap. And yet, it seems like 2/3 of the league has turned over a GM since Rick Hahn became the next big thing without hiring him.

Sox fielding calls for Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) They could probably get something better than Jackson for him, right? The .742 OPS he's putting up this year isn't helping his trade value, but yes, they should still be able to get more than Jackson for him. That said, if Edwin Jackson is the best pitcher available on the trade market, and the Cardinals need a starter...well...

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:41 AM) CQ for a couple young ML ready SPs allows us to trade Jackson for prospects this year and let MB walk (maybe for draft pick comp) at the end of the season. Pierre walks, Viciedo promoted, and then we have a few bucks to sign Pierre's replacement. Or maybe flip the Jackson prospects for Bourn or something. Bourn really doesn't help us. I might be more open if he wasn't a 2013 Free Agent...he won't be extremely cheap next year as its his last arbitration year, and then he's a free agent.

Jerry must be so proud
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:40 AM) And definitely not Republicans, because we can't talk about that. Eh, they can breed...a growing population is a good thing, keeps the economy from stagnating.

Poll: Viciedo, De Aza, Milledge and Danks
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:39 AM) You are the one who said no injuries. No, I said "Struggled through 2 seasons due to injuries". If his current .909 OPS is "Struggling through this season due to injury" then I can't wait to see what he does when he's healthy.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:39 AM) Just as long as one is male and the other female... And neither are Cub fans.

Poll: Viciedo, De Aza, Milledge and Danks
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) He didn't miss a month of this year with an injury? You can't possibly compare the shoulder thing and the foot thing with being hit on the hand by a pitch and expect to not be laughed at.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) People come out long after the fact they realize they're gay or simply hide it because they don't want to be scrutinized. And a lot of them do that because of the exact attitudes you've espoused in here.

Jerry must be so proud
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) It's not being naive and ignorant. Naive and ignorant would me be saying all gay people are disgusting and need to be shot. All I simply said was that I'd be ashamed if I brought a son into the world only to find out later he was gay and that I wouldn't want to be anywhere in the vicinity where gay sex was occurring. Except for the "Being shot" part, both of those statements sound pretty much exactly the same. You don't want to say its disgusting, but you find it so disgusting you wouldn't want to be anywhere near it, and you choose language earlier in the thread designed to illustrate how disgusting you find it to be.

Poll: Viciedo, De Aza, Milledge and Danks
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:32 AM) Viciedo hasn't had anything close to 2008 for TCQ. Neither had Carlos Quentin coming in to 2008. Viciedo also hasn't struggled through 2 seasons due to injuries or had major surgeries on the way up, as far as I know.

Poll: Viciedo, De Aza, Milledge and Danks
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) I'd take Viciedo over anyone else in our outfield besides Quentin. I'm not sure I wouldn't take him over Quentin if I had to choose. Their performance ceilings are probably similar...the odds of them hitting those ceilings are difficult to figure but overall I'd say they're similar too...one has injury issues, the other is still young.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:28 AM) If me not wanting to be present (under the same roof) when two guys are slobbin' each other's knobs and hittin' each other from the back means I have a problem, then so be it. To me, that's not at all the same as me simply verbally or even physically attacking someone who was gay or not wanting to go anywhere near someone that was gay. Dude, really? You don't think as you're typing that might be pushing the line?

Poll: Viciedo, De Aza, Milledge and Danks
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:28 AM) Come on now, man. You can't expect that over a full season from someone as raw as Viciedo, regardless of how well he's raking in AAA. You have backup QB syndrome. You could have said the exact same thing about Carlos Quentin any of the last 4 seasons, except for 3 of them you'd have to replace the word raw with the words inconsistent/injury prone.

I'd hate to have a kid of mine doing something so obscene, so totally outrageous, so sickening as well. That's the kind of thing that would make me never want to speak to them again. We're talking about cheering for the Cubs, right?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) Sorry I didn't mean to do that. I thought I was self censoring it. Ok, understood. I thought you were trying to sneak around it, we see people trying to be creative with that on occasion.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) The trade that you describe is essentially Quentin for Bourne. Quentin is a much better hitter than Bourne (Bourne sports a mighty .351 obp in his CAREER YEAR). That is not an even trade by any means. Next year, his slap hits won't get through the infield as often. Bourne has a career OBP of .335 with 11 homers. That's Podsednik. Quentin for that? Please! Also, Bourn hits FA at the same time as Quentin, so there's little benefit in contract sense as well.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:16 AM) Speaking of atheists, BS claims to be an atheist (I think) but he was reading passages from the book of John to me at the bar when we had a SoxTalk meet up, so I think he's full of $H!T. Talk about gay. Attempting to bypass the Soxtalk Swear Filter is an explicit violation of site rules.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) I thought this got locked? I unlocked it but moved it. I don't think there's any reason why this discussion needs to be censored (yet), it's an entirely legitimate topic to discuss, but that's why we put this forum here; for dicey political topics.

Sox scouting Brandon Beachy
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) We aren't going to have that many starters next year. If we do bring Buehrle back, someone else will go to make room for him. As of now: Peavy Danks Floyd Humber Sale If you trade for Sanchez, you're adding starter 7 for this year and starter 6 for next year. Your response of course will be "But they'll just trade Danks", which is of course possible, but that still makes dealing for a starter a foolish move because it compels the Sox to trade Danks, rather than allowing them to wait for a good offer. And then of course there's still plenty of reason to think that M-56 will get an offer from the Sox to come back.

Poll: Viciedo, De Aza, Milledge and Danks
QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:00 AM) in 100 ABs and helped by a meaningless last half of september when nobody cares At age 21. Seriously...no one's going to guarantee Viciedo will put up solid #'s...but saying it's ludicrous to think that he could come up and immediately put up an .850+ OPS is something that will draw out the criticism.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) But it's Kenny Williams, and he tried to get Sanchez when he offered Crede to the Giants. I know, but even then, it's such a poor, poor fit. If you're selling on Carlos, you need long-term guys, a pitcher who would fill the 7th starter spot right now and 6th starter spot next year does none of those.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:01 AM) Phillies have some strong pitching prospects on their Clearwater team. IF we give up and move people, trying to steal names from A-ball is the move I'd be the biggest fan of. It'd take 2+ years to really pay off...but that's where the biggest payoffs can be, because teams are more willing to move guys when they're still that low in a system.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:59 AM) I fear a Quentin for J. Sanchez trade The fact that they're both 1.5 away from Free Agency seems to make that very unlikely.
