  1. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) Per Cowley. Sun Times' Quentin Trade Rumor Both of those teams make a ton of sense as well. As does KW's reply.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) The Cano story was enjoyable to watch last night, especially for anyone with a son. As for the celebrity game, I can't believe how bad the production of that was from ESPN. The biggest downside to the HR Derby is ESPN as well.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) I think it has more to do with Rongey seemingly always supporting anything and everything Ozzie and the Sox do, and when someone disagrees with him, he acts in a condescending way. It is what it is...he's a host and not a baseball expert, no big deal. And that's also...sort of his job. If he did the kind of things that would take for this type of Sox Fan to not get on him, he'd get fired quicker than Stone got canned on the North Side.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) My .02. Obviously I didn't care about it in the first place. But my problem with it is my same problem with all of these google social media products. Mainly: I dont' feel like social media apps can grow top down. I think they need a hardcore small following that gets their friends, so their friends have friends that are using it actively and it's interesting from the getgo. But with google apps you just sit and wait for it to be interesting. And nobody around me is using it. So yeah, it's a cool interface, but you'd be better off doing some astro turf campaign where you give this to some 22 year old and he acts like he invented it. For a totally new idea, that's likely true...but we've seen more than a few times that companies with a significant consumer base have put out a solid product and used that product to butt into territory seemingly dominated by a different company. The smartphone market comes to mind there as an example. As does the browser market. Hell, Google has done pretty much exactly that in both of those cases...they're not the first person to the party like they were with their search, but they put out a solid system and people adopt it for that reason.
  5. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) Lashing out at anyone and anything I guess. Doesn't make any sense though There's an emotional connection there though since part of Rongey's job is to toe the company line, even if he personally doesn't make the choices.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:28 AM) LOL, the HR derby is trash. It's an enjoyable event that is made worse by being on ESPN. You don't always get a great year, but you can't tell me that things like a mammoth Thomas BP shot, that run by Hamilton, or the run by Abreu aren't entertaining.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) Ok, he has an inconsistent .850 OPS, which is easily way better than any of those minor leaguers can be expected to produce in the bigs anytime soon. Um...one of the 3 minor leaguers in the list put up an .840 OPS last year.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) I think we can all agree that what he did was unprofessional. He shouldn't have done it. The question is whether we should be taking this moral stance that what he did was an affront to the entire gay community. That I think is bulls***. What two people say or do in private communications is entirely different than what someone would say in public. I don't think this was "public" at all, even if it was in a ballpark. As others have said, this was a non-issue until a writer wanting some page views deciding to make it one. Well, one problem is that Gordon expected it to be private, when at worst it was pretty public. He just never thought about people being able to read it in the upper deck.
  9. Very weird choice.
  10. Those lips say stop but those eyes say yes.
  11. Really, I have acid, you have eyes, I'm not sure I have a choice here.
  12. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:10 AM) Is MLB going to have to put up 8' high fences to stop dumbasses from falling over trying to catch baseballs? Or, do they let them fall and die, there by eliminating them from the gene pool? #DarwinAwards The departed firefighter is happy to know that you've judged him to be a dumbass.
  13. Probably the acid.
  14. New eyes are coming.
  15. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:01 AM) Viciedo definitely deserves to be called up in light of his excellence at AAA and Dunn/Rios' struggles up here. But the other three, no way. And why is Quentin on this list at all? His average is mediocre but he hits for power and drives in runs. What is the problem with that? He's a current OF on the team, he's getting more expensive, he's 1.5 years away from being a free agent, he's streaky enough that his down streaks hurt the team as much as his up streaks carry the team. He's also the entire reason why the minor leaguers are losing this poll. If it was just the other guys, the minor leaguers would be winning easily.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) Supposed to be a trailer for it hooked to HP7_2 this weekend.
  17. Let's all focus on that part.
  18. Just now figuring that out?
  19. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) I said "likely", not "obviously" better in the field. I love it when someone responds to a post and changes words and thus meaning of that which they respond to. The point of comparing the two however I think should be considered from the standpoint that Pierre could be moved. The question is...if we move Pierre, is there a replacement in house that won't be a severe downgrade. I think either De Aza or Milledge would at least not be a severe downgrade unless you seriously think those guys can't throw the ball 10 yards and will have OPS numbers in the 400s... Lastings Milledge is not "Likely" a better defensive player than Juan Pierre either. I could totally see either of them coming up and putting up Riosian numbers. I could also see them bettering them. We're close enough to the deadline now that if someone will give us anything of Value for Juan Pierre, we'd be foolish not to take it. That also includes money.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) De Aza is intriguing me though. He's putting up great numbers at AAA and the splits show it is not because of Charlotte's park. He also isn't just some older player who came out of nowhere, Florida had him pegged as their opening day starter and a future of their OF a few years back before a really bad injury. I'd love to give him a legit shot here, especially over someone like Pierre. And De Aza could play CF as well I think "Intriguing" is the right word there, I just can't see how he's going to get playing time in this org.
  21. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) De Aza and Milledge, neither of who blow me away, are both sporting OPS numbers over 200 points higher than Pierre. And you'd have to think they (both having played CF in the past) are likely better than PePe in the field. Lastings Milledge is not obviously better than Juan Pierre in the OF. Given how bad Pierre has been in the OF this year, that's saying something. The fact that he's played CF in the past is meaningless, so has Juan Pierre, that doesn't mean he belongs there on a regular basis.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:22 AM) You don't think having a kid drafted to do the exact same thing you are supposed to be doing should be a sobering experience? I dunno, I'd say that the sobering experience would be destroying my ankle and having to spend a year in rehab.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) Democrats refuse to negotiate (and by negotiate we mean give us every single thing we demand, basically our entire party economic platform in one lump sum while getting absolutely nothing back), blame them! Unless Obama finds a way to cut a value greater than 100% of discretionary spending, without cutting Medicare, Social Security, or Defense, he's being a d***.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) I'm still waiting for all of the HuffPo stories about being "Presidential" Did GWB get that after the "Major league A-hole from the NYT" remark on the campaign trail? Did Dick Cheney become less than VP material for having that same outburst, except in public, on the floor of the Senate?
  25. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) What that was, Barry, was a weak American leader making an outrageous and unfeasible demand of one of our closest allies that got almost zero support from his own people, and then promptly getting the crap embarassed out of him by what is currently the world's greatest leader. God bless you, Mr. Netanyahu, and God bless Israel. Yup, an outrageous and infeasible demand. Which is why every other President has made the exact same statement. God bless you Mr. Bush, and Mr. Obama for following the exact same policy.
