  1. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 05:41 PM) Rios is 2nd on the Sox in runs. (may not include today) I think this means that every time he's been on base people like AJ have been effective at knocking him in.
  2. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 05:38 PM) AJ has a whole 18 RBI this year and his career high is 77. No reason for him to ever bat higher than 7th in the line-up He's been hitting behind Rios and Dunn. Who is he supposed to knock in?
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 05:11 PM) Wow. Balta posted Albert's OPS after May 30th. Looks like he's about to blitz the NL again. No, I posted his OPS ON may 30th. On that 1 day.
  4. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 05:21 PM) When do we just pack it in? We'd need a .614 winning percentage the rest of the year to get to 90 wins. Combine that with the fact that we regularly play poorly in August and September, it's incredibly bleak. It's not going to happen. Why do they have to keep acting like the ship isn't sinking around them? Why must we pretend that things are going to magically turn around? Why do we always underachieve? And how many times do the same old things need to happen before we decide it's time for a change? The fact that nobody on this team has lost their job is insulting at this point. Counting today, the White Sox are 17-11 since May 7, their bottom. That's a .607 winning percentage. That's right where you say they need to be.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 04:55 PM) We've just been destroyed this year with regards to having to face the opposition's best. Is it possible that the rest of the league is just that good that everyone has someone rough for us to hit?
  6. So, the Southern U.S. has gone from the ridiculous rain/storms in April to suddenly being socked in by high pressure and heat for the last week or so, with this weather pattern seemingly stuck here for a while. The interesting thing for me is that the high pressure/high temperatures are basically surrounding the Gulf. It's just the start of hurricane season, but last year, we set a record here for the most 90 degree days in a single year, and we're already ahead of that pace. If this heat pattern stays in place for a few more weeks, it's going to pump a lot of extra energy into the Gulf waters if any large storm happens to find a path through them. No guarantees, but that's my weather comment for the near future.
  7. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) They changed his stance last winter, Hawk. He still strikes out too much. not Dunn. But he's trying. Not if you've bothered to pay attention for the last month.
  8. "They've changed Jordan's stance" - out of HH's mouth there. Interesting.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) So from 2009 to 2011, does anyone know what Peavy's stats are for the Sox and how much we've paid him for that? Prior to today, Peavy is 12-6 in 152 innings (24 starts) with a 3.93 ERA since that trade. It's impossible to know how much the Sox have actually paid him since almost everyone including the big guys at the Trib have said that there is apparently an insurance policy on Peavy that has paid off.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 04:16 PM) Didn't somebody want Ohman to come in the game the other night? To pitch against a LH batter when Thornton was being hammered, yes.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) I'm glad crowds are down for this horrible underachieving team. Sox still can't beat their brethren in the Central and we've only played Minnie twice. Ha. This is the season from hell. Really, crowds aren't down all that much from last year despite the weather...and the season from Hell was still 2007.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) He better have not torn it off the bone! Remember when Nomah did that? I still think about that injury when I'm stretching at the gym. It terrifies me.
  13. Strained right Groin for Jake Peavy, reevaluated on Monday
  14. Strained right Groin for Jake Peavy, reevaluated on Monday
  15. Was that just Hawk breathing on the microphone in frustration?
  16. Good effort Brent.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) At least the Mets have had chronic injuries. I'd take the Cubs worst 7 over our worst 7 any day of the week. Three of our top 5 players are an elf, a 29 year-old who was DFA'ed twice in a week before we scooped him up and a guy that's only been pitching for about two years.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) How can a team with a $125+ million dollar payroll be home to like 7 of the worst players in baseball? Did you watch the Cubs or Mets the last few years?
  19. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) Peavy's injury history is the reason the Sox won't be able to trade one of the starters. Five seconds after we make a deal, he'll go on the DL and the call would have to go out to ... That might not have been nearly as much of a concern if we'd started Sale off in AAA this year like we should have.,
  20. AJ, that was Pierre bad.
  21. It's be really nice to get these runs home.
  22. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) No one is saying the system is perfect, but it is far from as broken as many want to make us believe. "Not being broken in this particular way" doesn't mean that it isn't horribly broken in other ways. The fact that I'm typing right now doesn't mean my knees won't kill me in a second when I stand up to walk to the fridge.
  23. John Huntsman will not compete in the Iowa caucuses, joining MITTens in that decision. That may leave Iowa as a Pawlenty versus Palin/Bachmann type contest. FWIW, John McCain also did not contest Iowa strongly in 2008.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 03:48 PM) I assume Peavy taken out due to some type of injury/soreness? Nothing has been said so far. I'd say "it's likely Peavy was pulled for that reason", but I'd also have said "It's unlikely Ohman will have a 123 inning with 2 strikeouts."
  25. ohcrap, ohman in, JFP pulled after 70 pitches.
