QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 28, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) Boozer's contract is almost untradeable I'd argue at this point. This is why I've said for a while, this season was the Bulls' best chance at winning a championship, because Boozer is getting past his prime, and with the Bulls' cap situation it's going to be hard for them to make upgrades. Under the current rules, the Bulls are in decent shape thanks to the MLE and the Veterans Exemptions, along with the expiring contract/trade rules, they can fill those spots in. All of those bits are on the chopping block though.

Technically, if a business were to accept a bunch of counterfeit bills, aren't they basically SOL, in terms of not getting that money?

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 28, 2011 -> 12:23 AM) I didn't realize that. I thought he was one of those big salary flops. $1.6 isn't bad at all. First year arbitration. If he suddenly turns his season around and the Sox offer him Arbitration next year, that number would go up to probably $2.5 mil+ or so, then it'd start getting annoying.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 28, 2011 -> 12:22 AM) 1.) Bosh looks pretty damn good to me. 2.) Why wouldn't you watch the series? Dirk vs. the Big 3 is kind of compelling I think. I won't watch a second of it either. 1 on 3 is all you need to know of why. It's already rigged. It's been rigged since those 3 rigged it last july.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 28, 2011 -> 12:11 AM) Pena has talent? He's awful basically every other outing. And he's been that way a while. I get the feeling he'd suck even in the minor leagues. Some guys just can't get people out. He's one of them. In 2006 he was first switched to being a reliever, and between AA and AAA he put up a 0.90 WHIP and a 1.30 ERA in 46 innings. He might have lost something since then. Since 2007, when he was actually good, his WHIP has gone up every year.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 28, 2011 -> 12:08 AM) Pena has given up at least a run in 6 of his last 10 appearances. His ERA is over 6. Going by production per salary, is he the worst pitcher in White Sox history? I know Sox have had some horrific pitchers, but most are just low paid guys. I guess one could argue Linebrink vs. Pena as worst ever, taking salary into consideration? Keep in mind, Pena is "only" making $1.6 million this year, so he'd have to be 3-4 times as bad as Linebrink salary wise.

Continuing the theme of Republicans doing things solely to piss off Liberals...NJ Governor Chris Christie has pulled out of a 3 year New England only carbon credit trading program, which used the funds raised to invest in clean energy projects.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 27, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) I've got two of those things and they really help IMO. One is larger and I have to flip it over when the coals are ready. The other one is a little smaller but the piece inside that holds the charcoal is on a hinge and flips down to let them drop out the bottom when they are ready. Once I got the hang of mine I just realized I needed a hot glove for turning it over and I needed a slab of limestone to set it on to cool. I had to purchase one of those 2 items.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 27, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) The only issue is making it work under the cap. I'd have more fun speculating if I even knew whether there would be an NBA next year and how things will be structured. Biggest problem I see...it's really hard for anything the league does cap-wise to hurt the Bulls less than it hurts the Heat. The Bulls and Heat currently have 3 really big contracts each (Deng, Noah, Boozer for the Bulls, and well, you know). Those 3 contracts are bigger than what the Bulls have to pay... but this is Rose's extension season. He's a RFA next offseason, under the current rules, if he's not extended, which means whatever the maximum contract offer is under the new CBA, the Bulls will have to make it. That means the Bulls will have 4 $10 million+ deals, and 2 $15 million deals. The Bulls are guaranteed to be in worse shape relative to any hard cap than the Heat will be.- 2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2011 -> 12:09 PM) I do think the NBA union will fold a lot quicker than the NFL one. Here's the real problem with that argument...the NFL lockout came first. If the NFL union does not break, or scores some legal wins (they already have)...then they've written the rule book for the NBAPA.- 2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) What other teams were snubbed by the "big Three"? Which of those teams ended up with the one seed? Parting with Asik for what was out there would have been dumb. This front office knows what they are doing. If the Bulls had traded for any SG who was moved or available, they'd have been swept by the Heat. Who wants to see OJ Mayo guarding Wade for 30 minutes a game?- 2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2011 -> 07:16 PM) A big man? Really? Can you ever have too much size? Especially with Kurt Thomas being very old and Boozer and Noah basically having 1.2 seasons between the 2 of them this year.- Gamethread? White Sox V. BlueJays?

Based on a frankly reasonable interpretation of the Citizens United decision, a Federal Judge in Virginia has ruled that any restrictions on direct corporate contributions to political candidates are unconstitutional. It of course has an Appeals Court step before the Supreme Court. If the decision were to be upheld by the Supreme Court, corporations would be able to make direct contributions to candidates, just as individuals can, and the only standing restriction would be the limit of amount that they're able to give.- Arizona requires you to carry your papers
QUOTE (Tex @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:28 AM) From purely an economic standpoint, what is the difference between legal and illegal immigration? Because of worker protections, legal immigration is more expensive to employers. If they qualify for public services, it can also be more expensive for taxpayers...however, if they're being paid under the table or with cash, then they could also begin paying taxes on currently untaxed income. We're also spending $20 billion a year trying to enforce the difference between the 2, which is probably the single biggest cost on the list.- 6 man rotation

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 27, 2011 -> 02:36 AM) You Pierre haters might want to tip your cap his way. He got 2 more hits and is not doing so bad the last month. I mean it's OK to despise him, but to not forgive him for those early errors is stupid. Several guys have been just as bad or WORSE. Spread the hate around. Praise Juan today. And oh yes, Humber! Sergio appears to be the real deal as closer. I hope we can put a good team around him as he dominates a year or two cause being a closer is hazardous to one's health (aside from Yanks). Soria sucks this year and he was unhittable for a couple years. Feliz was on DL and doesn't appear as nasty either. So Pierre has replaced Jenks, eh?- 2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 27, 2011 -> 12:08 AM) Its not all on Rose, he has a coach who put him in these situations. You are allowed to call plays from the bench and try and force other guys to get involved. All things considered, Rose played well. If he played great they probably win at least 1 more game. But this was his first rodeo, hell have more. WTF? Thibs called the "Miss the free throw" play?- 2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ May 27, 2011 -> 03:40 AM) I don't entirely buy this. Wade is 29 and is breaking down more and more every game. Bosh is still inconsistent and unless something happens with the CBA, they still won't be able to bring in supporting players that will fill holes. For a guy who's breaking down, Wade had a scary amount left in the tank to demolish the Bulls in the 4th.- Realistic Adam Dunn expectations
QUOTE (forrestg @ May 26, 2011 -> 11:05 PM) last 10 games he is hitting .125. Not improving. Projection was .259. 285 his listed weight would be better but reality is he is not showing any improvement. At least if he is 0 for 30 + facing left handers at least platoon him with someone who can hit lefties. DV would be a great improvement. Just an un related matter send Morel down dfa McPherson then bring up the real deal, Dayan. Why does everyone hate Morel now that he's hitting? He's hitting .300 in May. Send him down, that's too good! - 2010-2011 NBA Thread
