Go read our "Decadal survey". If the "Obama 5 year discretionary spending freeze" happens as projected, we won't just be having funding dried up, we won't be launching anything for the next 5 years.

Eventually I'd love to conduct fieldwork...since I'm now working mainly on Martian rocks.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ May 19, 2011 -> 05:26 PM) I thought June 1st was just the date for the 6 man rotation, then they'd just decide to continue with it. Go check the KW quotes in the Catch-all thread from this morning.

Can't. I like the rocks in my office too much.

Another couple hours of working out? Just what I need. The gym doesn't even have hot water this week, I've suffered enough.

You don't say? I haven't played anything that looks like a video game in about 5 years.

Unless you're Brent Morel. He's not allowed to wear caps. its his punishment for winning Tuesday's game.

Screwing deliberately with every minor leaguer we bring up and try to develop is not something I relax about.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) Dealing the contract fully is probably a victory at this point. Unless the White Sox want to compete. That's the catch-22. If the Sox hang around the race, they're hanging around because Peavy's performing. Dumping that contract means throwing in the towel on this year.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2011 -> 04:49 PM) The Yankees pitching situation makes them a wild card when it comes to pitching. We all know they will take on bad contracts in an attempt to win now. If Jake Peavy stays healthy through the end of July, and pitches like he did yesterday, I'd strongly bet they'd take the contract on. But they'll laugh at you if you ask for Montero or something else useful back. They'd probably trade him straight up for Posada.

Indians @ White Sox, 05/19, 7:10, WCIU
QUOTE (daggins @ May 19, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) Morel might be benched for two games because the two starters we've faced (especially Masterson) are notoriously tough on righties. It might also have something to do with him not drawing a walk yet. Yes, these starters are tough on righties. Morel has hit righties better than lefties this season. Dallas McPherson has done jack squat to earn starting playing time, while Brent Morel has actually been hitting this month. Dallas McPherson isn't going to be with this team long term, and he has no business starting 2 games in a row when there's a developmental candidate who wowed us on defense 2 days ago sitting on the bench. One game? Fine. And I wouldn't be mad if McPherson had earned it by performing yesterday. He didn't. That notoriously tough on righties starter killed him yesterday.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 19, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) It seems to me a no brainer, but the key is to try to get something good for him besides unloading the salary. How the heck is he going to stay healthy? He's going to be overworked on nights he pitches well, cause he refuses to come out of the game. This bulldog is, in my opinion, going to be too injury prone and stubborn the rest of his career. I love him but if it's true the Sox need the money, deal him in a Greinke-like deal. Get good stuff in return. Coming off this surgery, no one's offering you anything good for him with that contract until maybe middle of 2012 at the earliest, and that's if he's a leading Cy Young candidate from here until then.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 19, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) The fact that we dont know shows you how buried it is. The tree poisoning is easier to find. From the Google, it seems like they were actually arrested on March 11th of this year, more than 2 months ago. They were charged with the crimes at that time and dismissed from the team at that time. The indictments are just additional charges on top of the previous stuff. In other words...yeah, the indictments coming down are old news.

QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ May 19, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) Does anyone see any trades happening now? If the Sox hit a losing skid in the next 2 weeks, yes, I expect things to start happening. KW was quoted today giving June 1 as his date and saying that he does have some things in mind, but he was unusually teasingly vague, even for him. Usually he outright denies everything.

Let's drop the insults here. Mackowiak cost the team at least 1-2 runs every game he played in CF. Every single time. And every time he was out there, the pitcher wound up throwing 10-20 more pitches because he couldn't catch something. And he didn't hit worth **** in the 2nd half either.

Interesting Trade Possibilities.
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 19, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) Generally speaking, I agree with this, but I'm not sure in this situation. They need to try to compete next year, and they're definitely going to need to replace Jackson and possibly Buerhle already. Peavy's salary would be nice to dump, but if you do that, you pretty much HAVE to sign a pitcher in the offseason. Would you be able to get a guy better than Peavy at significantly less? Based on what I've seen about the pitching market for this upcoming offseason, I'm not so sure. If the Sox don't win the division this year, they very likely won't be trying to compete next year.

Just remember, there's a few things that really piss me off. I will go to my grave saying that, regardless of what "WAR" tells us, if Brian Anderson had started every day in CF after June 1 for the 2006 White Sox, the team wins that division.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 19, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) Not a lawyer. Just think its funny that SEC players robbing people at gunpoint can be buried under an AD's one line quote from a week ago. Were the indictments today totally unexpected or was a previous arrest something that has already been reported?

He knows good baseball when he sees it, and Dallas McPherson's strikeouts yesterday were good baseball. After all, they came from the left side of the plate.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 19, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) This is easy. You trade Peavy if somebody is dumb enough to take the risk. And I love the bulldog Peavy. But if you can dump the salary, you dump it. If he pitches like this through July, I bet someone would take the risk if you're selling. Of course, if he pitches like this through July, the Sox are darn likely to be in the race.

Friends, I am here to tell you that Brent Morel is doomed. He will never see the lineup on a regular basis again. That is the only reasonable punishment that can be placed on a rookie for winning a game.
