  1. When the Yankees built the new stadium, they insisted that they needed 2000 more parking spaces than the previous stadium despite the new one having lower capacity. NY City issued $237 million in taxpayer supported bonds to pay for the expansion of the Yankees parking system. They also built the parking garage on the areas only other community baseball field. On a typical day, the garage is now ~1/3 full and is on the verge of defaulting on the debts. They've raised their prices to $35 to try to extract more from the people parking there. But of course, the players and the VIP's use the same garage, so it's ok for everyone else to subsidize that.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 20, 2011 -> 11:48 AM) Especially since Texas is going to be pretty rejuvenated. Looks like Cruz and Hamilton will be back for our series against them. Yeah, but they have to deal with Jake Peavy.
  3. QUOTE (Tex @ May 20, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) The more I think about it, the more I am warming up to the idea. And they did play key roles on the team. I fully expected a very nice reception from the fans. There is not a player on that team I won't give a standing ovation to if given the chance.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2011 -> 12:10 PM) You didn't pick up Shaq's CD? It still doesn't top Kazaam.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 20, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) How does flying a plane save souls? I haven't a clue.
  6. The gym is nearly empty today since the university is out for the summer. Started off workout and I was legitimately the only person using any of the weight machines. Thought to myself "ok, if anyone gets in the way of my routine today, I'm going to be shocked, amazed, and really annoyed." There were people on cardio and freeweights, but all of the machines were empty. There are ~ 50 weight machines altogether in this area. My routine generally consists of a selection of ~ 20 of them. I get about 3/4 done with my routine, finishing up a set of pullovers. One person walks in and takes the next machine in my sequence. Ok, that's a 1/50 shot, but it happens. Another person walks in, takes the next machine in the sequence. Another person walks in, takes the 3rd machine in my routine. A 4th person walks in, and begins alternating with the person on the first machine. Within 5 minutes, all 4 of those people had departed, but they simultaneously appeared and took the next 3 machines in my preferred routine. I only had 1 other person appear on the weight machines my entire time down there today. Based on the number of machines, I estimate the probability of this event actually happening as being somewhere worse than 1 in 4 million.
  7. Does that surprise you?
  8. So...there is a plane with one of those giant banners orbiting Knoxville right now. I was surprised, because the university is out, so half the buildings here are empty. Looked up...and what is it advertising for? Why, the fact that May 21 is Judgement day. Seriously? It has to cost what, a few thousand dollars to print up a 20 yard long banner, rent a plane, pay the runway fees and registration, then fly it behind the plane orbiting around a small city for an hour. right? Now I'm not a religious person, but from what I do know of Christianity, if you genuinely thought the world was going to end tomorrow, and you wanted to do something with money beforehand...would you blow it on a stupid plane? Or maybe, would you do something like go to the churches and homeless shelters in the area and decide that you were going to make sure that no child in Knox county went to sleep hungry tonight? Which of those would Jesus do?
  9. Zonules might be useful, that's all I'm saying.
  10. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 20, 2011 -> 01:50 AM) Red Sox trade for Franklin Morales. DFA Hideki Okajima. Also signed Kevin Millwood.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) If you don't see the difference between Ohio State and Tennessee Chattanooga, you are more of a homer than I thought. You gotta admit, it's sorta impressive to have both the main campus and the #2 satellite campus facing separate NCAA investigations in the same year.
  12. Xenomorphic is perhaps a good term to describe both.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2011 -> 09:07 AM) Also encouraging last night was seeing Chris Sale hitting 97 consistently last night. That was as hard as he has thrown all year. Pitch F/X agrees and thinks he was 2-4 mph above what he's averaged this season.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 20, 2011 -> 09:03 AM) I'd eat it if it tastes decent. It can't be that hard to beat the multiply frozen, antibiotic laced corn fed caged processed meat that composes most of the American diet in taste. Or in health, for that matter.
  15. I'd be interested in it...It'll just take a lot to convince me that its safe. I'm scared enough by GMO crops but I know there's no way to avoid them since the FDA has decided its ok for them to get out into the environment.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 20, 2011 -> 08:51 AM) Or Crede? He was a Twin...so...
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2011 -> 08:53 AM) 4-0-1 in their last 5 series too. Win those series, and everyone is going to come back to you. Need to keep that up this weekend. Esp at home, where we've struggled so much.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 19, 2011 -> 10:28 PM) Ross has some funky mechanics. I'm a bit scared of the Twins coming back to life. That team has had everything go wrong, they're not exactly untalented. I can't be scared of them until they get Mauer back. If he comes back, then I'll be fearful.
  19. QUOTE (Knackattack @ May 19, 2011 -> 10:18 PM) Yeah, but teams are more inclined to give up a little more when they think a player could be the piece that they need to win that year. If the Yanks think they're a John Danks away from the World Series, and other teams are interested in him (Boston), they could be talked into giving up better pieces. The Yankees will also be less motivated to move a catcher now that Posada is struggling.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 20, 2011 -> 08:21 AM) The front office has to do something, anything, to get more than 22K at the stadium. Pump out extra CO2 so that eventually the planet locks itself into a permanent El Nino state and we stop getting La Nina springs like this one?
  21. QUOTE (Knackattack @ May 19, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) For Danks? If you're trading him you ask for a s***load. The Yankees wouldn't part with montero for Greinke last winter and they needed pitching more then
  22. Very likely that the Cleveland....thing.... Has a bigger gut than uribe
