  1. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) Edit- I can never get the stupid embedded videos to work. When you're posting, look for the box that says "HTML Off". You want to reset it as "HTML on, Auto linebreak mode"
  2. Probably don't want to be around me in about 18 hours then.
  3. No! says my mouth. "God yes!" says every other part of my digestive system.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) With the Yankees signing Russell Martin, it makes even more sense for the Yankees to use Montero/Romine as trade bait. Come on Kenny, offer up Floyd! Why would that be a good deal for the Sox? We just spent enough money on a catcher for the next 2 years that we wouldn't really have a place for Montero, and there's no good reason to keep him in the minors for a year and a half or to use him as a backup next year. Sure, you could trade for him to trade him later, but you're just creating a hole in your rotation in order to have better trade bait.
  5. Love those transfats.
  6. Just don't ask your heart how it feels.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 01:42 PM) And I love that simply because he describes it as "obvious judicial activism" that it MUST be true. GMAFB. Pretty much the definition of judicial activism is stepping out of precedent to overturn the will of Congress. This point of view, if adopted, would be an enormous overhaul of precedent; it would, as I understand it, basically decide that the 10th amendment now supercedes the "necessary and proper" clause of Article 1. It could give any state that wants one a veto over federal legislation, whereas right now, the exact opposite is generally true.
  8. Link This would be sorta unbelievable if it weren't already so in-character. I can understand how "wall street" might be termed pejorative by some, and perhaps "Hedge funds" and "banks" and "Financial firms" is actually a more apt use. But "Interconnection"? "Shadow banking"? Those are pretty much the definition of how the crisis happened. Lehman Brothers's fall wouldn't have caused a run on the shadow banking industry if it wasn't for the fact that they were all interconnected. The fact that banks were keeping things off their books and using overnight lending to cover for that fact, aka "Shadow banking" is exactly where the real run/freezup happened. You can't tell the story without it.

Sadly I can't say I've sampled nearly enough items to answer this question correctly, but i'm working on that. At present, the current answer is a NY strip steak from Prime, the steakhouse at the Bellagio.
  10. Link to commentary from a blog so Republicans should ignore this post.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) I was talking about Gingrich's government shutdowns Btw, if the Senate does not pass either a continuing resolution or the currently introduced omnibus spending bill (which Dem Claire McCaskill has said she'll join in the filibuster of), the government shutdown could actually start on Saturday.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) I'm surprised there's not more excitement on this forum for this dunk. The guy being dunked on is Tyrus Thomas.
  13. Hell, I bet you can have fastfood airlifted to you if you're not within that distance of any.
  14. Fast food is always missed.
  15. There are also consistent rumors that there is some sort of a large insurance policy on Peavy's contract that covers for some of the downside risk.
  16. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 11:11 AM) No excuse for the Bears not to open a giant can of whoop-ass on the Vikes. They get them outside, w/o a healthy QB, and should have a huge chip on their shoulder after their nationally televised crap-fest. Right now, the forecast is for 0 degrees F, 10-20 mph wind gusts.
  17. Bulls revealed today that Noah is dealing with Bruised tendons in his right hand that won't heal because he keeps getting whacked on them during games, originally hurt them earlier this month. Might explain why he's struggled a bit more this month
  18. Dick Allen is a rich tapestry of human emotions (Fangraphs).
  19. And the winner is...Mark Zuckerberg.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) You have to ask that because your side said it wasn't. In all seriousness, it's an entirely valid question, and I'd be unhappy if the people ruling against it had consulting gigs for HCAN, for example. With 16 judges, it's hard to imagine that they're all on the union take, but I guess the country could be that corrupt. If I were a republican consulting firm, in fact, one of the things I might do is make sure I publicized every potential conflict of interest of every judge who rules against an ACA challenge.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) So what to the judges who ruled for this have in their portolios? You don't get to ask that, your side told me it's ok.
  22. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) Every judge has some investment interest, and it's only a problem when they disagree with you. I disagree. I think that any time a judge has an investment interest in a case, it's a possible corrupting influence. If a judge is going to have investments, then they ought to be holding them in blind accounts, not actively working for an outside consulting firm. If there's some reason they can't do that, I don't see why they shouldn't recuse themself. Note how Jenks asked it earlier...he asked (to paraphrase) why is it that every time there's a ruling I disagree with I immediately point out the judge's conflict of interest? There's another way to ask that same question. Why is it that 17 judges have heard a similar case, and the only 1 who ruled the way you like also has remote but reasonable conflict of interest.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) I was talking about Gingrich's government shutdowns, where he tried to punk Clinton and ended up getting mushroom stamped. He lost his leadership position before the other s*** because he was ineffective. ? He didn't lose his leadership position until the affair came out during the impeachment December. It then quickly went to Livingston, I presume, who also immediately lost it because he was cheating on his wife. It then went to Tom Delay's handpicked guy, Hastert.
  24. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 02:50 AM) Watching the video of them plowing the snow at that stadium was ridiculous. I heard there was 4-5 ft of snow in there... Is that right? Yes. They supposedly have an army of a couple hundred people working full day shifts to shovel it out right now since tractors will destroy the playing surface.
  25. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 12:11 AM) Apparently Carmelo HAS been traded to the Nets, according to ABC7 News out of Denver. They're the only ones reporting it though. Kinda skeptical. Reported deal is Favors, Murphy and Picks to the Nuggets for Melo. The deal hinges on Melo choosing to re-sign with NJ or not. So, I'm reading this post 9 hours after it was made and no one else seems to be reporting it yet iether.
