Winter Meeting Buzz
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:07 PM) A bad anything can ruin a good team. How many teams out there have A+ bullpens? Not many. If the season started tomorrow I'd be worried. Not right now. Usually, each season it winds up being 4-5 teams in each league have really good bullpens. Usually 4 of those teams make the playoffs.

Dbacks have reached a deal with Putz
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) That and what draft pick do we get? Their second rounder? Putz is type B, so we'd only get 1 sandwich pick.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) I'll have to check that out. The problem is I have nothing else that uses that hook up. Maybe I'll buy one at WMT and return it if that isn't the problem. Take a look at the inside of the cable connectors. Sometimes you can obviously see if something is broken. I managed to break the inside of one of my USB connections on this computer a while back while using it as a laptop, I snapped off a small piece of plastic inside the connector itself, and the symptom wound up being that the connection would go in and out.

Really, you're on my side? That's what all of the FBI informants have said right up to the point that they tried to have me arrested.

Perhaps you should try to purchase a large quantity. Just to you know, make sure.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) With the current state of the market place, a 2 or 3 year deal at 13M per year is a relative bargain (and I use the term "relative" for a reason). 2 years with an option even more so. However, if he wants to win it would appear we are one of the better options. If he was willing to play DH, the Angels might be wise to give him a shot given they have a hole in there pocket and it just seems stupid to give Crawford as much as he's asking for. The Angels really don't make themselves better if they put Abreu in the field.

Nats sign Werth
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) Crawford is getting at least 150 million. Beltre gets at least 70 million. Unbelievable how much of a bargain the Dunn deal looks like and I have a hard time calling a contract of Dunn's magnitude a bargain, haha. Hopefully he just comes in and hits and hits and hits Paulie at 13M would be a major bargain too over the short term compared to what these other guys are getting. It makes me think Paulie could potentially get some 5 year 15M per season offer himself from a team like the Dbacks or Orioles. Those extra couple years might make it hard to take a Sox offer of relatively similar money per annum but a few less seasons. I say that because it is highly unlikely that he'll ever re-enter free agency coming off this type of season again. The LA Times floated $180 as possible for Crawford.

Winter Meeting Buzz
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) Unlucky? It was that high because he was routinely getting hammered. I'll admit, I'm conflicted on this one...yes, his BABIP is abnormally high and they're supposed to regress to the mean, and yes, closers automatically have a small sample size, but BS isn't wrong here. Hell, one of the things people talk about with BABIP is that it can be screwed with by bad defense, and even that couldn't save Jenks. He'll probably be somewhat better next year if brought back just off of the statistics, but unless he gets his head wrapped around how to pitch, I don't think I'd want to hand him the closer's spot in the AL again, because I think he'll still wind up iffy.

Winter Meeting Buzz
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) Us including Beckham tells me that Hoyer is just in absolute love with what he got because as far as I'm concerned the Pads got pretty raped. It could turn out differently but the guys they traded for, outside of a 1st base prospect without elite power numbers (and that means he's a dime a dozen prospect as far as I'm concerned), are so long away from being major leaguers that the bust rate is just so high. Shaughnessy in his article today used the "Kevin McHale sends Garnett to the Celtics" comparison.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) Putz has also said playing for a team that has a chance to win will matter. Dbacks, not one of those. Be smart though, if the D-Backs offer him the best money, and they fall out of the race next year, they're very likely to just trade him mid-season to a contender

Winter Meeting Buzz
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) Well I think he's only good if he's closing. If we couldn't get Putz or spend more on Soriano, then I guess Jenks would be alright for another run around at a cheaper price. I mean, who else is there? I just wish the thick lump would take his weight more seriously and come back next year in better shape. If Bobby came back, I'd want him to come back at a below-market deal...so that I know he's actually coming back because he wants to come back. If that happened, that would tell me that his brain is in the right place, that he knows he stank last year, and that he knows he needs to put in the effort to correct it. If he signs for like $2 million or less, sure. But really, that's my limit; he can be somewhat successful just as he is right now if he goes to the NL and doesn't work that hard, and some team should pay him $4-$5 for that.
