The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 09:37 AM) What, you think that'll make any difference? It's more likely to get those judges impeached than anything else.
-
Oh crap.
Just to play Devil's advocate, any chance that this is just a mistake of the sort that happens when you have thousands of guns lined up and pointed at populated areas for periods of decades?

Tea Party Libertarians complaining of co-opting
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 09:30 AM) Actually I am speaking for an entire county's movement. Both events I went to, no one talked about race, or religion, or sex. It was all about money. What an event is abou might not be what gets the people motivated and out voting. I'll give you a Dem type rally as a counterpoint. The "Rally to restore sanity" may not have been about traditional democratic issues, but I'll bet you the people attending it overwhelmingly agreed on a certain set of issues. Environmental issues, tax issues, health care, etc. If you went and checked the anti-Iraq-War protestors, I'll bet you 99% of them also call themselves environmentalists, and it's just a question of which issue of the day they want to get out and rally about. They're already the activist wing of my party, just because they're not talking about it that day doesn't mean it's not the most important issue to them.

Tea Party Libertarians complaining of co-opting
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 09:25 AM) The Libertarian crowd is really not a reliable GOP vote - They are independents and in fact, the ones I know who really are Libertarians, often voted 3rd party or even Dem a lot in the past decade because the GOP abandoned fiscal discipline. The ones I've met who call themselves libertarians are the most reliable GOP votes I know.

Tea Party Libertarians complaining of co-opting
4. The Libertarians really aren't that much of the "Tea Party", which is basically just the activist wing of the Republican Party anyway, and they make very little noise electorally because they're going to turn out to vote every time anyway and they're not voting for Democrats.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 09:03 AM) The Teahan deal was like right after the World Series but big time trades usually don't happen that early. The Thome trade happened the week before Thanksgiving. That's usually my mental starting point. KW seems to like to get something big done early if he can.

Tea Party Libertarians complaining of co-opting
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 09:03 AM) Good for the Libertarians. Really surprised it took so long for them to speak up. Not surprised in the least.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 12:01 AM) Assholes. They just buy championships. They sign Cotts less than a week after signing the Cubs' pitching coach? Gotta figure those 2 are connected.

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 08:03 AM) Another day begins. Another chance to change lives. Instead I think I'll put on a movie and catch up on grading. Could try my suggestion...sit there and watch star trek the whole day.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 07:54 PM) Agreed, the contracts that were given to Rudy Gay and Joe Johnson offseaon make Dengs' deal a lot more favorable. Not to mention the fact that Deng is putting up legitimate numbers across the board. Brendan Haywood will be paid $10 million in 2014-2015. As a 36 year old

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) The fact is that he could be putting up these numbers while making a lot less. This coupled with the Conley deal and the Heisey VS Rookies debacle from this offseason just show that the Grizzlies are a financially inept organization. I bet you that there was some anticipation of being able to get out from under a part of those deals by the new CBA in the Grizz's minds when they signed it.

Financial News
The FBI raided 3 hedge fund offices this morning in a widening investigation of the industry. The news that financial crimes may have been committed by anyone, of course, sent Goldman Sachs's stock down significantly.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) Joe Johnson could easily be moved. Offer him up and the Knicks take him in a heartbeat. For what? They'd have to come close to matching the salaries. The Knicks have Eddy Curry's expiring they could use this year, but then they'd have nothing to move at all in, for example, a Carmelo deal.

TSA - Going too Far?
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) they should keep using those "puffer" machines. The issue there is...the explosive used by the last couple guys to try, including the underwear guy, wouldn't be detected by those, I believe.
