  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) My guess is Cutler stayed away from everyone. Then the medical staff should have sought him out after the 3rd or 4th hit and they'd have been negligent not to do so.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) What an ugly situation. The only part that surprises me and that I find ugly is that the FD wouldn't take an offer of "I'll pay the full cost of you coming out".
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 01:02 PM) Lovie was quoted as saying they don't know when for sure it happened and that he's trying to get all the facts. If the medical staff weren't keeping an eye on Cutler early after the first 3-4 hits they took, and let him go back out there with a concussion, they ought to be fired.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) Amen! Unless it's a family member of mine, I could really care less if any baseball player wins a WS ring not with the White Sox. For example, if the Sox didn't win in 2005, I would not have cheered for Frank Thomas to win a WS ring with the A's. Isn't that like seeing an ex-girlfriend of yours go on to date Justin Timberlake? I'm totally the opposite. Once the Sox were out, I was cheering for Frank.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 10:12 AM) How is it irrelevant? I get that its the baseball playoffs and anything can happen. I'm just saying that the Reds struggled against good teams all season and the Phillies were #1 in the NL. Is it possible the Reds sweep them? Of course, anything's possible. But comparing the teams on paper and they way have played all season, I think the Phillies are much better and should win easily IMO. We will see what happens though. The Reds struggled against the Phillies in exactly 1 series...when they went into Philadelphia right before the AS break and were swept. They took 2/3 against the Phillies in Cincy earlier in the year. And frankly...neither of these teams are the same team that they were at the time. Jay Bruce had a much better 2nd half, Volquez is back, Chapman is in the bullpen, Oswalt and Utley are on the Phils.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 11:04 AM) Well at least you guys aren't Raiders fans like I am. X years ago (in Roman numerals) that was building towards a solid team.
  7. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 12:31 PM) The Chicago Blue Jay eh? I missed that one. Sigh
  8. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) Call me crazy, but I'm not that worried about PK not coming back. Where else is he going to go? Teams that could use a 1b upgrade (without thinking about available funds): Chicago Cubs Atlanta Braves Texas Rangers San Francisco Giants Tampa Bay Rays Toronto Blue Jays Washington Nationals Baltimore Orioles Cleveland Indians Teams that might think about it if they could move someone else first and get PK14 at 1/2 the price of the guy they're moving Los Angeles Dodgers Milwaukee Brewers San Diego Padres Boston Red Sox Los Angeles Angels Arizona Diamondbacks
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) That's a lot of games. Were you genuinely expecting Boozer to play >70 games a season on average?
  10. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 09:23 AM) I'd like to think that we could get a lil more than Matt Kemp for Gavin Floyd. Kemp + Loney?
  11. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 09:00 AM) Imagine if the team hadn't started so poorly, and Peavy didn't go down, and Quentin hadn't under-performed, and... Frustrating isn't it? Many of us predicted around 88 wins, not thinking of the bad things that happened. Here's the thing that amazes me...if you'd told me Peavy got hurt in June and Quentin put up an .800 OPS, I'd have said this was a .500 team or below. OTOH, if you gave me the good things only...if you told me that Konerko had a great year, that Alexei turned into an awesome SS, and Rios had a very good year...I'd still have asked "how did Peavy and Quentin do, because if they're bad, I still think we're a .500 team".
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) This site returns nothing like a specific office on an IP address. I have no doubt the the FBI would do exactly what their bosses tell them to do. This really is one of the most bizarre cases of improper behavior on the left that you've ever made. By some mythical process that took a matter of minutes and clearly was illegal, an IP address was tracked to a government source, the tracking process turns out to have been 100% correct on its location, the behavior of the person at that IP address was judged to be inappropriate, the Congressperson himself doesn't ask for any sort of investigation of how the track was done, fires the guy, and yet the only thing worth criticizing is the process by which the IP search was done.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 08:05 AM) Unfortunately the Bears' smoke and mirrors were finally exposed. Very bad day to be the brain of a Bears QB.
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 12:28 AM) Man everybody is ripping on Cutler for "holding onto the ball forever" but really 5 seconds isn't "forever." Only in this offense. Some of the issue though was him taking the sack on plays that he could have made. The concussion play for example, was a CB blitz, and the zone that the CB blitzed from was left vacant with Earl Bennett wide open. If you're a top level QB you throw the ball over the head of the blitzer and complete that pass, and Bennett runs for 25+ yards. Cutler tucked the ball away instead of making the throw he should have made. That said...after taking 8 sacks, he was probably shell-shocked.
  15. Twuck the Yankees.
  16. The Bravos have been awful lately, but they do have guys who have the ability to step up and carry them through the series. The Giants really ought to take this though. You shouldn't be able to lose a 5 game series with that pitching staff.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 12:05 AM) Phillies sweep this series. Reds did not win a season series against a team with a winning record, I dont see them hanging with Philly. Volquez has been money since coming back up. That makes this a much more even matchup than it was earlier this year. Volquez vs. Halladay.
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) Sounds like $110M payroll right there. This team's payroll has been right around $100 million for 5 straight seasons. Yeah, there has been revenue decline at the gate and due to advertiser swapouts...but there has been revenue growth as well, and there is still money coming in from LAD. If it takes a $110 million payroll to put a winner on the field I don't think it'd be impossible. I don't think it would take that much though, with the pieces we currently have.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 08:13 AM) I love that at the end of the game yesterday, the crowd was chanting "Nan-Cee!". She will be missed, she was fantastic. Really? That's most excellent, because I thought they'd just drop the organ thing. I loved that they turned around and gave her a standing O while the game was on...so the camera showed everyone behind home plate facing the press box. Yeah...I may have joined in the standing O. I hope that's correct and Boyer does sign a new organist. Most of the other stadia have gone to prerecorded music, and I think it reduces the experience.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 08:07 AM) Despite his recent struggles, a lot of people in Chicago still love Daley. Rahm doesn't have that kind of capital int he city, at least not yet, among the every day voters. He doesn't necessarily need it with the everyday voters yet...he needs it with the machine if he wants to hit the ground running. My impression of that city is that the voters will respond to whether or not things are getting done.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) Noah agrees to extension, 5 years/60M. http://blogs.bulls.com/2010/10/bulls-reach...ah-sources-say/ Told y'all it'd get done. It's an expensive deal for him and probably more than he's worth under this salary cap...but the Bulls aren't playing for cap space any more. If he hit the FA market under this agreement, he'd make considerably more than that.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) I wasn't optimistic until I heard JR was at his locker last night. Jerry doesn't get involved unless it means something. The Sox have a lot of things going for them if the Sox want him back. The teams that would have money to spent (Boston, NY, LAA) don't need a 1b, the teams that do need a 1b are also not big salary teams or are cutting back (Cubs, Braves, Rangers, Rays) and there are a ton of 1b candidates on the market (Pena, LaRoche, Lee, Dunn). Plus, next year is the year Gonzalez, Fielder, and Pujols could be available and no team that has a shot at one of those guys is going to want to block them.
  23. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 08:02 PM) btw, can someone remove the poll at the top of this thread? it's totally irrelevant right now, and it only brings back bad memories to bulls fans. I think we need a new thread.
  24. As usual...whoever is playing the Yankees
