Federal Gulf Oil Spill commission encountering resistance from: 1.) oil companies about turning over potentially incriminating documents, and 2.) Congress, at giving the oil spill commission the subpoena power it would take to compel those documents forwards. I'm sure you can guess where and how the subpoena power is hung up.

Getting Pumped for 2011!
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) Cowley said that they are making an all out run at it next year and then they will go from there. I can't remember a single season where KW hasn't thought he was going for it coming into the year.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) The Miami Heat have yet to sell out a single home game. What a joke that they get such an awesome team. Yeah, how does that work? They sold out of their season ticket packages almost immediately. Are they just holding a lot of tickets in reserve for media?

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) Actually he's not. He hurt his ankle running bases, not pitching. Granted his injury this year was severe, but that doesn't make him injury-prone. He hasn't hit 200 innings since 2007 though. His injuries may be freak ones...but those are starting to add up.- 2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) It's now 4 of 5 games they have given up 10+. In one of those starts Liriano left with the flu and then the bullpen got rocked. But the other three were s***ty starts by Pavano, Slowey, & Blackburn. Mauer hasn't played since the 19th due to knee inflammation. Thome has been out for a week with back issues. Hardy has been out with migraines too. Other than that I think most of their regulars have been playing most games. The offense has been fine for the most part. Getting shut down by Verlander is normal, all though last night they couldn't score on the mighty Sean O'Sullivan. In other words...they're resting anyone with any kind of issue at all for the playoffs rather than fighting for home field the whole way.- AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) If Konerko and AJ are Type A, offered arbitration and leave then the Sox get extra picks anyway. I'd be shocked if AJ was offered arbitration.- Quietly so no one sees . . .
QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 10:33 AM) Urlacher and Briggs are going to save Lovie's job. Very wild swings between overrated and underrated for those 2.- NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 09:47 AM) In this case, hindsight is irrelevant. I'm more trying to say that even an idiot would figure out that if he obviously cost Anthony $40 million through bad advice, that would be the last advice he'd give.- NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 09:21 AM) It wouldn't be the first time that someone had the wrong person whispering in their ear in the NBA... But even that "wrong person" wants to keep his access. If the lockout happens and Anthony winds up getting a 4/$40 deal afterwards and he was talking about a 4/$80 deal beforehand...I think it'd be pretty hard for the player to not realize something odd happened.- Quietly so no one sees . . .
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 09:21 AM) Really we should get back to the topic at hand, Da Bears Should, but won't.- Getting Pumped for 2011!
I think this sure looks like a KW aggressive move offseason. He could probably pull off bringing the band mostly back together next year with a small tweak or two in salary terms...but that's not the KW I know.- NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) Point:Balta. I still don't think that deal made any sense for the Netropolitans anyway. It'd be a marketing move, but it would at best leave them stuck hanging in that lower-level-playoff spot needing some other team to help them out with a top line player.- Quietly so no one sees . . .

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 12:53 AM) Bulls are alive and not bending on Noah is now to their benefit. Now the Bulls need good performances for the first 2 months of the season out of Gibson and Johnson, along with a healthy and performing Luol Deng. Of course...that happens and they may decide they want to hold onto Lu for his defense.- NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 12:27 AM) That deal (though the 4 team thing might be, but now all those teams) is far from over. If not now, we'll see it materialize sometime during the season. I don't think Denver will risk gambling till FA and see Melo walk like LeBron did with Cleveland, Bosh did with Toronto, etc. And Melo would be a F***ing fool to not have a contract inked before the lockout. Things may heat up again before the season starts...but it was going to be really hard for this to get done before the deadline. No team in contention would want to give up a key part or two of what they thought would be a contending team for Melo (i.e. the Bulls) and the Nuggets won't want to give up Melo without a key part of a contending club unless they take a major step back first.- Ozzie and the staff will be back for 2011
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 08:00 PM) I so agree with this. Why the hell can't he tell his son to get a life and stay the f out of mine? I'd have looked past the Oney crap somewhat if it wasn't for the OzJr. fight with KW after the draft. That was the last family straw for me. I'm willing to put up with a lot of crap...but that's the end of my rope.- Getting Pumped for 2011!
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 02:40 AM) Opening a new stadium and bringing in 3+ mill fans along with any revenues that come along with making the playoffs will help them spend a bit more money. I have no doubt that they'll have a higher payroll than the Sox next season. This is still the Twins though. They're legendarily cheap in some ways. They have a couple things that could legitimately help them in addition to the ballpark; if they keep Thome and he makes a run for 600 that's a ticket sale boost. They've probably also received some sort of insurance compensation on at least Nathan, if not Nathan and Morneau.- AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 08:45 AM) Ruin our draft position? Come on, that's ridiculous. Unless we are somehow able to get into the Top 15 draft group, then the difference between say, 16 and 17, or 18, is nothing at all. Better to throw the youngsters out there and have them work their butts off as an audition for 2011, and hope they win a few. Is getting into the Top 15 even possible? Was it even realistically possible before the little 5 of 6 streak we are on? Well, we currently have 84 wins. Prior to the last 5 wins, that means we had 79 wins. If we'd lost out from that point we'd have finished 79-83, under .500. There's every reason to believe that under .500 should be in the top 15 picks. Realistically though...finishing under .500 would have required going something like 2-17 in our last 19 games, starting with the beginning of that 8 game losing skid.- Konerko to address free agency before TH game
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 08:37 AM) More likely, he'll say he's going to test the market. The way the Sox org works, they probably don't know yet if they can offer him anything substantial, because they don't yet have a target "number" for 2011. Therefore, PK really has no choice but to test the market. I don't think I believe this one bit. They may not have a target number down to the tenth of a cent, but they certainly know the ballpark on their spending numbers. Think, for example, about how they operated in 2009; they took on substantial salary for 2010-2013 mid-season, and justified it at the time by saying they knew enough about what they were going to spend. I think they know pretty much what they have to spend. What they don't know is the level of offers that PK14 will receive.- Official 2010-11 NFL Thread

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) I wonder what is gonna happen with this Nick Collins thing. He says the bears fan dropped an N-bomb on him and thats why he threw his mouthpiece at the fan. Now a news station has pictures of the fan or fans involved in the altercation and is asking people to identify him. Should be interesting, it is basically Collins word against the fan here http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/tv-station-a...witnesses-29054 Even if a fan yelled the N-word at him, he's not supposed to throw things back. - Getting Pumped for 2011!
