  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 08:30 AM) The only person who might sort of think that is Ozzie, and I think even he realizes he had the wrong parts there. Notice how Kotsay's playing time fell off the map in August. PA by month for Mark Kotsay: March/April: 41 (Jones was on fire) May: 79 (Kotsay actually had a hot streak and earned some of this) June: 68 July: 65 August: 69 Sept: 28 Games played: 10 19 16 16 16 7 I sure don't see his playing time falling off the map until ManRoid was acquired.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 08:33 AM) I didn't say you dictate to the local authorities which machines to buy, or when. I'm saying you dictate how many voters per machine as a minimum, and that the machine prints out a hard copy to show the voter and file. Those should be per se federal laws, IMO. The localities can decide where to put the polling places, what hours they are open, what brands of machine to buy, staffing the polls, etc. The problem is...dictating how many machines there are per voter = dictating that large cities spend a couple million extra dollars on voting machines. The HAVA provided some funding for some cities...but this is a problem that you need to throw a couple billion dollars at before it is gone.
  3. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 11:47 PM) You cant blow it dead because its reviewable. The second forward lateral must have been really obvious. It wasn't just that it was totally obvious...they also called it an "incomplete pass". I don't know if they can really do that, but if someone got hurt on that play they'd never hear the end of it.
  4. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) Cutler had like 3 picks called back thanks to their play. At least 2 of those picks were probably completed passes without the penalty. The deep ball/Pass interference at the end wasn't a pick unless the Bears' receiver couldn't move. The pick over the middle was only a pick because Cutler had a helmet bounce off his in the middle of the throw; a legal hit and he completes that pass.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 12:09 AM) the packers are a really great offense so it's expected they get yards. The defense played really well at containing them to 7-8 yard plays. But some of the penalties...I don't know. I have no qualms about penalties that resulted from julius peppers completely f***ing the heads of their olineman. But yeah, they were just absurd in the #, but it's not like any of them were not penalties. As for our offense, there were struggles but we also got about 25 less plays it seemed. I'm really pleased that we just beat two 3-4 defenses. Man this felt great. A MNF win against the packers? Jesus that's been rare in my lifetime. Yeah...it's hard to complain that the refs were somehow unfair when virtually all of the penalties were real. The closest thing to a phantom penalty the whole game that I saw was a holding call on Kreutz. Half those penalties you could see without the replay.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 08:25 AM) Honestly, I am not sure how it works now, in terms of getting voting machines in place, but I am pretty sure a lot of discretion is allowed to local county people, or state people. I am saying, less discretion should be allowed. There should be a simple formula used. X number of registered voters in a given polling locality, at Y people per machine, equals Z machines at that location. Aside from funding in the Help America Vote Act...most if not all voting machine types are chosen, programmed, and paid for at the local level. In terms of potentially opening paths for local election fraud, it certainly is something of a risk. In terms of preventing national election fraud...it could well be a good thing because it's hard to systematically reprogram a large number of machines if you only have access to a single city/county. In terms of having poor voters systematically disenfranchised because of long lines...it absolutely does, on the scale of at least hundreds of thousands of votes.
  7. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) Gotta say, Sqwert speaks the truth though. He who's alphabet is without sin may cast the next I.
  8. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 06:15 PM) So they saw photos, not the real thing, and decided it was a hoax. OK. Just posting this as reporting.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) You have to wonder how low the TV ratings will be tonight for the Sox game? Easily lower than the game the Sox played on the night the Hawks won the Stanley Cup. Well, they are playing the Red Sox.
  10. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) As long as Kenny and the FO are the ones making the decisions on how they want the team built, I can tolerate Ozzie for another year. Frankly...I'm sick of this side show. If he's coming back...he needs to cut out the 2010 crap. The 2004-2009 distractions I can take. This year has been a whole nother level.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) Um, that is terrible logic. Every rotation and almost any starting pitcher can have a "what if" tag placed in front of them/him. When you have 4 starting pitchers capable of being lights out and Mark Buehrle as easily your 5th best pitcher you have one of the top rotations in the league. Most teams when they think of a great starting rotation wind up having a setup where there is a dominant guy at the top, maybe 1 more above-average guy, and then a couple iffy back of the rotation guys who tend to not even wind up with 25 starts. The White Sox have taken a different tack. They were hoping that Peavy would fill that dominant #1 guy but that hasn't yet worked out...but even with that, if they don't have the true stopper, then they're expecting to be in a position where their 3-4-5 guys are better than the 3-4-5 guys of any team they're facing, because they might be bad for a #1, but they're really good for a #3.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) Eh, JoeCool is probably too busy making up crappy nicknames to figure this out. Frankly, I think we should avoid the personal attacks in here.
  13. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) Last nights was weak. I agree that there have been some pretty good ones recently. There seemed to be about a 3-4 year stretch where it got real bad but as of late they have been very funny again. Not anywhere near as good of a show as it used to be, but still pretty damn funny. I'm still watching in the "i've finished 22 miles of this damn marathon and I'm not giving up now!" sense. Episodes like last night make me want to cut my legs off.
  14. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) Anyone else think JoeCoolMan still doesn't get it? Balta is wondering...
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) X Files was not a quotable show for that other thread. You need to consider a change of careers if you're not quoting that.
  16. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 05:41 PM) I agree that ID's should be made available for free if need be, but that there needs to be a way to verify that you are who you say you are. I also think the voting machines should have a receipt so that you, the evoter, can verify that it recorded your vote correctly. We are on the same page there. As for the lack of machines in poor wards, aren't they usually run by the Democrats? Why can't they get the machines there? Seriously, if there is a poor ward in Chicago that doesn't have enough voting machines, when the whole state is run by the Democrats, whose fault is that? The finger thing means the taxes!
  17. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) You don't hear about College Young Republicans registering Alex Keaton to vote, but there is alwasy some progressive-leaning group that seems to register Mickey Mouse. And why do Democrats scream the loudest when you try to remove dead people from voter rolls, but not seem to care about getting overseas military ballots on time? The "conservative" student government at IU when I was there submitted something like 25,000 registrations in 2002, most of them fraudulent. Out of all those applications...and all the hundreds of people in the same dorm as me...2 people turned out to vote. You didn't "hear" about it, because it only is useful publicly to smear particular groups that are disliked.
  18. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 03:16 PM) And how can they even be brought when the Justice department seems to not want to enforce those laws enough to even try? Maybe if they were white ZRepublicans, they might. Except for the judgements rendered in the cases that you're choosing to ignore...sure. As I said, if they bring charges...it proves rampant fraud. If they don't bring charges, it proves a coverup
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 01:38 PM) I say "f*** it" and we make them understand they need us. Forming a worldwide plot to vote Chicago (the US) out first should piss everyone off. They already hate us, so f***ing up the Olympics money stream won't make a difference in that regard, but it'll show the rest of the world that we're not going to take their bulls***. You want our money, but you don't want us. Enjoy the ratings you'll see out of Bulgaria and Guatemala. No one makes you watch.
  20. Seasons 1-10 of the Simpsons.
  21. Killings may happen at any time though.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) http://www.redstate.com/laborunionreport/2...-progressivism/ Now I get why the left is so scared. Actually sitting down and reading the stories about what is going on in Houston is a real wake up call. There are already implications leading to both the SEIU and ACORN, not to mention a prominent Democratic fundraiser. Throw in a dash of potential arson, and you are really cooking. And if charges are brought...it will be proof that voter fraud is commonplace and we need to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands more voters to make sure it never happens again. OTOH, if no charges are ever brought, it will be proof that the Obama Administration doesn't want to enforce it's laws regarding voter fraud.
  23. Family Guy was surprisingly good last night, even though it wasn't the funniest show of the series's run. The Simpsons made "Running Wilde" look good.
