Ho-hum. A 4 game win streak. - Sox vs. Sawks - 7:10p CSN
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 02:43 AM) Ditto. And at this point, I think the top 15th pick is a lost cause. If the sox lost these last four games (or at least 3/4) we would had been, I believe.. tied or one game back for the top 15. (Detroit is playing just as good, and St. Louis just took 2/3 from the Cubs recently) Unless we lose every game, we are either picking 19th (most likely), or 18th. Beyond that...once you get outside of the top 10 in most drafts, and especially outside of the top 15...it becomes more and more of a crapshoot on every pick. The problem for the Sox wasn't that there weren't good players available. The problem for the Sox was that they picked an obviously crappy player. 15. Scott Kazmir 16. Nick Swisher 17. Cole Hamels 18. Royce Ring 19. James Loney 20. Denard Span 21 Bobby Browlie (good work Cubs) 22. Jeremy Guthrie 23. Jeff Francoeur 24. Joe Blanton 25. Matt Cain 26. John McCurdy (Good work Beane!) 27. Sergio Santos

Kenny & Ozzie at it again
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) He'll be the next Mark Kotsay. Like it or not...he's a significant upgrade. He's not a $4 million a year upgrade so feel free to complain about that contract...but he's a much better option than Kotsay. I'm wondering if De Aza winds up playing himself into an option as the other backup OF next year.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) Anyway Fox is better for making money obviously but I'd much rather watch a game on CBS, there's less distractions. Given the choice obviously the non-Fox networks do better. But choice isn't exactly an option there...you're choosing based on the game you want to watch, not by the network. Like I said...name anything that isn't a giant revenue/hype machine. Not just in sports. Anything.

Root for or against the Twins in the playoffs?
QUOTE (Twinsfan1965 @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) Valencia will be an average fielder and will never be as good as Morel with the glove but his bat will be much better then Morel. At least it's a point that can be argued. Here's my counter-point. Valencia is a guy who came up very slowly through the minors. Both Valencia and Morel have career minor league OPS right around .820. Morel, however, shot upwards; he's putting up .825-.850 OPS in AA and AAA at age 23 this year. At age 23, Valencia was starting the season in high-A ball. Normally, hitting at a higher level at a younger age is an indicator of greater degree of success. It's actually an interesting comparison the more I look at it. Valencia was putting up decent numbers in AA at age 23, but the Twins took a lot more time with him and kept him down there, despite frankly having a weakness at 3b most of these years. The Sox have been much more aggressive with promoting Morel than the Twins were with Valencia. I wonder if that is a reflection of how the Twins are able to get these guys who come up and perform right away so often, versus the Sox where we bring up a Beckham or someone like that and have to endure months of struggling.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) I know it's a better way to make money, it's still really annoying to watch. That's pretty much all the NFL is anymore, a giant revenue/hype machine. Name anything that isn't.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) When I watch broadcasts of AFC games on CBS it makes me realize how much I hate Fox broadcasts with its blatant and shameless self-promotion of its programming every 5 minutes. This tells me that FOX is a much more savvy company than CBS.

Kenny & Ozzie at it again
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) Yes. No manager can win with crap talent. I think this team had some talent, some awful baseball players/pitchers as well. I don't think there's any team in MLB that you can't say that last statement about.

Kenny & Ozzie at it again
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) It's probably a good time for Mark to hang it up, I don't think he will be getting many offers this offseason. There's no reason why he can't be an adequate PH on a National League team. He's a career .312 average as a PH. And if Ozzie Goes to the Cubs...they need a starting 1b...

Is Kansas City the best team in the NFL or is San Francisco the most inconsistent performing team in the league? And 30 points for the Bills? It's a Christmas miracle.

Kenny & Ozzie at it again
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) Yes. Kotsay was asked about the Ozzie wanting an extension subject. He said that it isn't a big deal to him since he won't be with the club next season, but it should be something that the returning players should keep an eye on. I believe it was a Tribune blurb. Just checked the Trib and didn't see a direct quote, but there was Mark Gonzalez in his last mailbag saying that he didn't think Kotsay would be back next year.

Kenny & Ozzie at it again
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) Don't most managers win if the team they're managing has talent? Yeah...the problem with the Cubs would be that there isn't a whole bushel of talent.

Kenny & Ozzie at it again
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) I guess he could have or should have ripped the Cubs, but that's one job that's available. Why would he rule it out if he leaves here? s***, he could manage their forever like LaRussa in St. Looie. Really? You think the Cubs would put up with any manager for more than a couple years? They haven't had a manager last more than 5 years since Leo Durocher.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) This is only good news for the Bulls. Yeah. If Anthony was ready to sign that extension and Denver could get Favors, AK, and 2 draft picks...I have no idea why that deal isn't already done.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) Hate to break it to you, but the most excitement I saw at the park this season in the 12 games I went to was the wave taking place in the crowd. Did you miss the month of June?

NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 12:13 AM) I would take the Nets offer as well. The Bulls would have to go with Deng, Noah, Gibson, the CHA first and a first of their own...and even then that's a pretty poor haul. Really, for all the optimism about the Bulls being a top 4 team in the East next season, their roster is actually pretty depressing. The don't have a player outside of Rose that really has any significant trade value. Bah, "trade value" is always a terrible way to judge the level of talent you have because it's dominated by people's contract status.

Vote fraud
And out of those 23,000 phony registrations...23,000 will be thrown out, 0 people will show up to vote, 0 false votes will be cast, and Fox will make every one of its viewers think there's a giant conspiracy. Just like every other time.

Kenny & Ozzie at it again
QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) That said, I'm not sure that I share DA's optimism. I could easily envision a scenario where JR does nothing because he doesn't want to pick sides, Ozzie continues to act like an ass, and Kenny reaches the end of his rope and says, "f*** it, I'm done with this dysfunctional organization." If it got to the point that the GM didn't feel he could fire his manager...yeah, that would be the definition of a disfunctional organization.
