  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 12:41 PM) The franchise will be better in the long run by getting Viciedo into a defensive position for 150 games next year. The only way he is going to get better is repetitions. Its the same idea with Sale next year. We could use him out of the pen for sure, but this team will be better in the long run by making him into a starter, and building his innings to stand up to a 180ish IP workload. I agree that the franchise would be better in the long run with Sale and Viciedo in AAA next year for the majority of the year if all other things were equal. However...things are not equal. The Sox have serious bullpen needs, the Sox's best player is a free agent, the Sox have 0 established major league catchers next year, and the Sox are in the realm where filling any of those needs by signing a type-A free agent would cost them their first round draft pick. This is a classic KW dilemma. Somehow I think something surprising will come around to fill a couple of those spots and we'll wind up having a chance to make the right choice...but as it stands right now...Viciedo is my DH next year until proven otherwise.
  2. That was a 93 mph changeup.
  3. Posting without personal comment from Peter King's weekly monday piece.
  4. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 12:16 PM) I wouldn't blitz the Bears. You could probably get pressure with the front four. Drop 5 into coverage. That's a strategy that ought to open up the running game though.
  5. Soxtalk.com doesn't count?
  6. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) Who wants more Kenny and Ozzie drama? Well, here it is. Ozzie wants his boy Kotsay in the lineup and hates the lack of flexibility an actual DH saddles him with. “Kenny and Jerry [Reinsdorf] never get involved with my lineup,” Guillen said. “They never did and I don’t think they ever will. I hope not. You never know. But all of a sudden you don’t play Manny for three or four days and he’s healthy … we bring this guy here to play every day. [...] By bringing aboard Ramirez, Williams was essentially forcing Guillen’s hand with lineup decisions. Or at least that’s how Guillen seems to look at it. “In the meanwhile it’s hard for me to make the lineup every day because of that situation,” Guillen said about Ramirez’s presence. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...ausing-friction You know the real sad thing about Ozzie's remarks here? There's a key thing he's still not getting...that an old guy who can still hit but who shouldn't play 140 games every year is an absolute necessity for the "rotating DH" that he wants to run out there.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 10:18 AM) How can you see this kid play and think he is ready? No part of his game is major league ready yet. If he is too far behind the curve, you risk doing more harm than good by having him up here. Ozzie actually got this right by picking the match up's he put Dayan in for. Let me put my quasi-defense of DV another way: If the choice came down to 500 PA's of Viciedo at DH or 500 PA's of Kotsay at DH...I wouldn't hesitate to say that DV would give significantly better production next year at that spot. I'd expect him to start off slowly...and I'd expect to see his numbers start to creep up through May/June-ish, and I think he'd have a breakout month in either July or August.
  8. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) From the article we can find out organization see's him as a 1B/DH type, give him a full year in AAA. If his learning curve this offseason is as steep as it was this season...I sincerely doubt you're going to want him in AAA after a few weeks of next season. He's got a chance to be destroying everyone in the minors next year.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 09:41 PM) You know that's not going to happen. I don't think the Bills are going to win 3 games...1 or 2 seems about right with the direction of the offense. The good news is that the Bills will have zero excuses for not having a young QB to start next year.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) I wonder how long the lawsuit takes to happen? Towards the bottom of that article
  11. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 05:39 AM) Read rest here. For once I actually agree with Ozzie that he's genuinely not ready yet. I don't think he's 2 years away though. His learning curve has been much steeper this year than I expected.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 05:23 PM) Pierre is a microcosm of what's wrong with Ozzie. I will agree that Pierre has been "decent" but he's not getting any younger and has a ton of caught stealings. Ozzie over relies on him to a fault. Seems to me Pierre has had less rest than any other starter. I can remember Jones in left a few times during the season . As far as Larussa goes no thanks. Too old, too expensive wants too much control. Pierre never gets rest when he's in there. That's one of his things. Yes, Pierre has a lot of CS. However...Pierre isn't the problem on that. He's been reliably at 76% all year on CS's. 75%ish is the magic number where you're actually making a difference. He has a lot of CS because he's stolen a ton of bases. It's actually bothered me more the times he hasn't run rather than the times he has...times when they've bunted with him. Rios, Ramirez are guys that the CS's have bothered me a lot m ore.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) I was one of them. He has made some real nice throws today. Has to be consistent for the Jets to succeed though. He's not going to be "Consistent" just yet...he's too young. They need to get something going in the running game, it's been almost non-existent with Green so far this year, although Tomlinson's had a very good game. They just made Sanchez last week unwilling to look downfield. He's looked downfield more today, and it's suddenly pushed the D back from the line and opened up the passing game.
  14. So...everyone who told us last week that Mark Sanchez was totally worthless... Even if somehow the Jets lose this game, they took the reins off a fair amount this week against the Patriots, and that's 3 TD so far this game for him.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) I'm still not sold, but they played way better than they did last week. I'm not "Sold" either and a lot of things can still go wrong...but predicting that a 7-9 team would get Urlacher back, add Chester Taylor and Julius Peppers, and wind up a 4-12 team never made a ton of sense to me.
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) Jay Cutler raised his middle finger in the direction of a lot of people this afternoon. I have an urge to start dragging up posts about how awful this team is and how they're going 4-12, but I'll decline.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) The odds of something like that happening are no greater than a botched handoff or a fumble. But if there's an incomplete pass, the clock stops. So the chances of a TO are probably pretty similar...but the chances of a clock stopping is much higher.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) Not with short passes you don't. A ball gets tipped at the line upwards and that's an INT.
  19. Bears 2-0 Packers 2-0 Vikings 0-2
  20. So, I thought this deserved it's own thread. Link for photo
  21. Vikins: 0-2 Packers: 2-0
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) Still too conservative for my taste. I have no issues with trying to run the clock out with a 2 possession lead.
  23. Tennessee has 7 turnovers today. They pulled Vince Young after a couple picks and a fumble, and Kerry Collins has now had 2 TO's in 3 possessions.
  24. In to Dallas territory on 1 play. Get the extra points here.
  25. Cardinals backup catcher Jason LaRue retires due to post-concussion symptoms from the concussion he suffered when Johnny Cueto kicked him during that brawl a few months ago.
