Jay Mariotti Arrested
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) great point, this will happen very soon I bet Of course, it'll be part of how he gets out of a jail sentence for this event. That's how it works when you're rich.

The Official Stephen Strasburg needs Tommy John Thread
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) I hope for his sake, he still regains that velocity back after Tommy John. Not EVERY pitcher does. With the offspeed stuff and control he had...if he came back throwing 91-93 but kept the offspeed pitch control and movement, he'd still be a very effective pitcher.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:49 PM) Milano does multiple voices including Warren and Greg. That guy is gonna break out soon. He needs to do a John Madden impression. That's the ticket to fame and hundreds of super bowl commercials.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) I really wonder if some AL team we didn't expect, is jumping in, just to have Manny on the roster for a month of home games. DET? OAK? There's no way that ManRam on your roster pays $4 million in additional ticket sales in only 1 month if you're out of the race.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) Rios was something no one even considered, so it wasn't discussed. It wasn't considered because no one thought the Sox would take on that kind of contract after landing Peavy. The moment that it was out that someone had claimed Rios on Waivers...we kept getting threads in PHT saying "Someone claimed Rios on Waivers!" that we kept closing because we didn't know it was the Sox. Everyone seemed to realize that the Sox were the likely candidate when they knew there was a claim on him.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) I would think if multiple teams claimed him, one might have been an NL team. Otherwise, who would have higher dibs in the AL? Really...the Sox are the first team with legitimate reason to claim him in the AL...unless a team decided to block him out of spite. We've got the worst record of anyone left in the race.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) How do you know it wasn't the Twins, Rangers, Rays and White Sox? Well, for one, the Rangers don't exactly need a DH. The Twins maybe...depends on how comfortable they are with what they have and their revenue situation. The Rays...yeah, I'd still have claimed them if I were them, but they did just add Hawpe.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) I agree that the bad losses hurt and may have really hampered the divisional hopes but if you think they are going to win every game the rest of the way I can assure you they will not but I will remain interested in how it all plays out even they lose one game of ground this weekend. They're not going to win every game...but they have to play like they have zero margin for error. If they take 2/3 from teams, fine...but then they're basically counting on the Twins not taking 2/3 or better over the same stretch. It's not an enviable place to be.

The Official Stephen Strasburg needs Tommy John Thread
I have a serious urge to go start finding all the people who said he was bound for the Hall of Fame and the remaining people like Sen. Bunning who said he was a wimp for not pitching and just start listing them.

The Democrat Thread
Frankly, it's not like we didn't know that was going to happen. It happened like crazy last time there was a Republican Congress and a Dem president (anyone else remember the Senator shooting a watermelon to personally examine the Vince Foster suicide and prove Bill did it?).

Sox also trying to add an arm
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) Kenny Williams said no claim (on Trevor Hoffman) has been made, FWIW. Kenny'd also get fined if he said a claim had been made on him.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) They need to beat he Indians while the Twins are playing the Rangers that is where they need to make up games. 4.5 Monday is doable....I would hope for 3.5 but the M's are terrible and he Twins miss Hernanadez. I expect nothing other than a Twins sweep and it is unrealistic to think the Sox will sweep the Yanks...the only hope is the M's defense can take away the dinks and dunks and that the M's can hit the ball. You can be disappointed that they can win two this weekend and lose ground but I will be fine with it. Like it or not, the Sox have already blown their chance to think that it's ok to lose ground against the Twins when we're playing good teams. If they wanted to be in positions where they didn't need to sweep the Yankees, then they should have beaten the Twins. Or the Indians. Or the Orioles. Whoever.

8/27 Gamethread - Good Guys v. Evil Empire
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:50 PM) Twins have some tough pitching matchups to face in Seattle, and they looked pretty bad in Texas. I wouldn't pencil in a sweep by the Twinkies just yet. A lot of people look pretty bad in Texas this year.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 09:59 AM) I don't think there's a statue (yet). At least I haven't heard anything specific about one being unveiled. I believe its just the number being retired and put up on the wall. With both Baines and Fisk, the statues came later. Some of that though is because they retired their number before they started putting statues of anyone in the OF. That said, yeah, the statue comes later.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:18 PM) Freddy is the kind of guy the yanks destroy like they do to MB. I expect nothing out of him tonight and hope Danks and Floyd bring their A game the rest ofthe weekend. 4.5 out Monday morning and I am fine. Really, we're past the point in the season where we can be fine with losing ground, no matter who we're playing.

Financial News
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) No doubt those things had a positive effect. But I disagree that the marketing aspect was the main problem with the stimulus. The biggest problem with it is that it was weighted far too heavily on a combination of short-term, non-sustainable jobs, and tax cuts that didn't target business growth. They went about it the wrong way, and were less effective than it could have been as a result. And, I'd love to note/brag...what were the 2 arguments that a few Republicans made over and over in the debate? It should include more tax cuts, and it needed to be more short-term and get out the door faster with less looking towards the future. The other big problem with the stimulus remains the state and local governments getting destroyed and basically counteracting the entire thing. Which of course, was another demand of the Maine Republicans.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 11:03 AM) This is just going back to the point that being a gay Republican in 2004 is a little different than being an anti-stimulus (or other similar policy position) Democrat in 2008/2010. Being a gay Republican in 2004 = being a Muslim Republican in 2010.

Brad Hawpe put on waivers...
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) I would think the Rays would grab Hawpe for a tryout before that ever happened. Score.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) On a side note, one baseball figurehead said that Manny might be in the market for $6 or $7 million next year as a DH. Think he'd be worth that in a Sox uniform? Without some sort of insurance plan to cover my tail if he wound up missing 2/3 of the season with injury, no I don't think he'd be worth that. If he played 600 PA's, he'd probably be worth that.
