  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 04:21 PM) I am thinking it's becasue he is a contact hitter and can get Piertre over to third on a hit through the infield Then Alexei and AJ shouldn't be bunting either.
  2. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) Like Mark Kotsay? I don't expect everyone to be into sabermetrics, but there's no set of criteria under which Getz is good. He had some good time and showed some promise last year with us. I thought he had a shot to develop into a legit contributor. This season he's regressed on everything.
  3. OMG, Omar swang away. I like him swinging away. WTF though? Why does he get to do that?
  4. This is 100% a situation where a successful stolen base is the right move. Omar will bunt.
  5. Another year of Vin Scully. I kinda want to feel bad because I'm sure it's hard on him and his family and such...but it's such a joy to tune in to games he broadcasts...
  6. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) dude, i've worked with government employees. they all had degrees from low quality programs. A lot of 'for profit' degrees. Senior level technical employees that couldn't understand simple recursion. making $150,000 a year when a new grad from a good program is actually much more competent. so spare the 'educated government employee' bulls***. Man, you think I can't say the same thing for the private sector employees?
  7. Alexei totally whiffed that tag.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) You're going to have to replace Jenks and Putz, right? We'll pick up Matt's option, bring back Sergio, Pena, Linebrink and Threets. Then you'll have Sale either in the rotation (hopefully) or out of the pen. That leaves 1 or 2 spots to fill. Yeah...but it's the 2 hard and expensive spots. You need a Closer and a RH setup man. MAYBE, if we're lucky, Santos fills one of those roles. I'm not sure I'm convinced yet that he's our closer of the next year and beyond. If he's not...then just paying for a slightly better than Jenks closer this year is either a $5-$10 million year job...or it's a $2 million gamble on an injured or old guy like Jenks. Infante is starting to appear like a plausible option...but even then...I have very little confidence in that bullpen. It really, really needs a rock solid RHP somewhere in it. Sale absolutely needs to be in Hudson's role from this year. Somewhere in the upper minors and ready to go on short notice if/when one of the starters goes down. We don't have anyone else to do that role.
  9. There was a letter to the editor in my local paper here this morning from a guy saying he's a business owner and the reason he's not hiring anyone is that he's scared by Obama's tax increases. Included in that same letter were short, one-sentence rants saying "and have you seen the tuition prices at UT lately!?" and "And none of our customers have any money to spend either". I laughed.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) Jenks in a non save situation. That typically works out well. Isn't today an afternoon game too?
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) Hawk using video evidence that Joe West sucks. I gotta admit...I like it when he actually sits there and makes his case rather than just ranting.
  12. QUOTE (WinorDie88 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) Jenks warming up. We so got this. 3 inning save for Jenks?
  13. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 10:24 AM) So? if they are making 50k a year, it is still 50k, whether they get it over 9 months or 12 months. When you say 'prorated' you make it sound like they then get less each check for doing so. If they are educators and can't make a budget, they may need to go back to school. Because our problem in this country is that we have too many overpaid, overqualified teachers.
  14. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) when does the Afghan war end Balta? how about right now. it's up to your lord and savior Obamacus Maximus. You guys get to lecture about long wars now?
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) Neither does health care, social security, medicare, medicaid, or any other "fund" that is supposed to be set aside and is now used by your democrat majority so that China can bankroll our "stimulus". Because without China...no one would want U.S. treasury bills right now.
  16. And there's the free out. Dah. I hate when people tell me how the bunt is the sure thing play.
  17. Ok Hawk...don't say "Don't stop now boys" until they get started.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) I just don't understand how we struggle so much against a team that's pretty much 20 below .500 that no longer has Pods or DeJesus. Hell, the Royals are probably more talented now than they were a month ago.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) Some hot DP action here would be nice. It was quite sexy.
  20. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Can we even afford to not use Flowers at C? We have to fill 3B, RF (Q should DH), 1B, C, and a few bullpen slots, so we may need a minimum salary young player at a spot or two. If the Sox hold on to Vizquel (and barring retirement I don't see why they wouldn't)...Viciedo appears to be a legit 1b/DH option (platooning along with Teahen at worst). Konerko ought to be brought back and I think they'll figure out a way to work that out...I think the money is there now that we at least pulled back into the race legitimately...the problem is that we have so many bullpen spots to fill it's not even funny any more. That bullpen has utterly imploded.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) It's too bad that Danksy has problems pitching deep into most games. He seems to be at or near 100 pitches in the 5th or 6th too often. It's all about control of his offspeed stuff to me lately. He has that change under control and he's at 8 IP, 1 run. He gets the change up or can't get it over the plate, and he lasts 5 because he can't put anyone away.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Yeah I do. I sometimes forget and get carried away and overdo it. I do like Getz, though. I'd like to like him and he had a good stretch last year in July where he and Beckham were our only offense...but that .555 OPS on the season makes Kotsay look like a star.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) Greinke walking Kotsay is a fireable offense. It was clearly just an effort to make Kotsay look worse, on that SB attempt.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) It doesn't take a rocket scientist in today's age to know that a major storm is just about to roll over the area for the next few hours. We've delayed the start of games at USCF on more than one occasion without a single drop of rain hitting the ground. That call is all on the home team's groundscrew and the umpires. The White Sox happen to have a fairly decent groundskeeper. You may have heard of him.
  25. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) Javy Vazquez is bad at pitching. His fastball was topping out at 88? The first ball ever to land in the upper deck at Yankee Stadium was an 86 mph pitch to Branyan that looked like a fastball.
