QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:45 AM) What its time for is a measure that doesn't provide just a temporary and artificial bump. Its time to do something that will help energize private sector jobs that will actually result in growth. The problem is, that'll infuriate the Republicans because then it'll provide stimulus too late. Everything has to be out the door immediately, and the only way to do that is tax cuts. Just like last time.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:50 AM) No, not saying that. But for people that have been on unemployment for an extended period of time, say a year, I think they should be required to do some public work to get that money. But I thought you wanted them to find all those plentiful real jobs? There's an old saying...finding a full time job is a full time job. You're not finding a full time job if you're spending 30 hours a week doing service for the government. Perhaps we could come to an agreement that there should be some sort of government jobs program, where the government was actively hiring people to complete tasks like rebuilding infrastructure, revamping the national parks, updating the electric grid, building some HSR, etc. I'd be totally game for that.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:47 AM) No, we should just extend unemployment benefits. Screw spending money to create jobs, lets just pay people not to work. Trust me, eventually they'll WANT to go back to work, even if they are being paid to sit at home. You hear that unemployed people? Stop being so lazy. It's your own damn fault you can't find a job.

Back Up The Truck???
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:34 AM) This. Someone needs to get plunked. Not going to happen. The Sox don't have the marbles to do it. We even had a beautiful chance yesterday. Early in the game, Young up, 1 out, no one on, Gavin fell behind him in the count 3-1, the harm in hitting him was gone...hell he walked anyway. Merkin wrote the "Tensions rising!" article yesterday. Harrelson said basically "it will be dealt with" repeatedly in the first inning of yesterday's game while showing the replay of the AJ play and pointing out all the crap Young did wrong. The manager was more angry at the fans for doubting his awesomeness than he was at the Twins.

August White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) There still is about 6 weeks of baseball to be played, gentleman, I hope they don't sell their skin for cheap. I have no idea what that expression means.

Daniel Hudson watch thread
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 07:29 PM) The idea being that Sale can do in 2011 what Hudson did in 2010 for us, and I think that's pretty fair. Traded mid-season for an NL starter with an ERA over 5?

August White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) You seriously don't see a difference in winning tonight versus getting swept? On paper there is between 6 back and 4 back...but mentally, I think they're flat out cooked. They had their run and now they're back to where they were in May, with suddenly everyone's confidence broken, no belief that they can hold a lead/win, and Ozzie going off like crazy about everything and everyone other than the team.

Sox draft signings and reporting places
QUOTE (OilCan @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 12:30 AM) Seriously...can we let Sale start a game or two? I think that's a poor idea. He's struggled enough with his control already. Let him work on controlling everything in the AFL and ST next year and maybe, just maybe, we can think that we are 6 deep in starters coming into next year, although that'd still be pushing it.

August White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:00 AM) we will have a team that knows they can beat Minny in Minny even when they are red f***ing hot. Wha? Taking 1 of 3 in Minny will teach them that they can win in Minny? Taking 2 of 3 in Minny didn't teach them that earlier this year.

Waiver Wire Thread
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 08:50 AM) AJ? You think anyone would want him? This late in the season and with AJ's "reputation", I seriously doubt it...he's probably cleared waivers already, and most teams in the hunt aren't going to want to flip catchers in September.

What Should Be The Next Course of Action For Your White Sox?
Nice to see how the Sox are willing to stand up for their players.

Waiver Wire Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) Eh, at this point I am waiting to see what happens in this series before I add anyone if I am Kenny. If they go down six to Minnesota, there is zero chance I add anyone. It's time to start teasing on selling guys.

Dear KW,
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 11:58 PM) He can't until July of next year. Now can we close this thread? He can in January as a PTBNL.

Back Up The Truck???
The Sox were able to dump Contreras and Thome last year. It's time. Anyone we can get anything legit for...do it...unless they're likely to be type A/type B. It'd be nice to hold onto PK14 for sentimental reasons, but if you're offered a legit player for him...it's time.

JIM THOME!!!!!!!!
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) Honestly, if we had to lose that way, I'm glad it was Thome that did it to us. It was like Thome was figuratively pissing on Ozzie's face. I'm just not sure that I feel like Ozzie is all that peeved about the Twins passing us and beating us senseless right now. He spends half his time praising them and then feels compelled to remind everyone that he hates the twins as soon as their on the field because people are starting to wonder. There sure hasn't been any outside sign of him being annoyed with how any of this has gone down. He's got spanish language interpreters to worry about.

What Should Be The Next Course of Action For Your White Sox?
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) Well they could spare a runner or two if they're winning 8-0 or something like that. But it could break up g?'s perfecto.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) Teams have unloaded players before and it actually ignited a team. How dare you take Mark Kotsay away from us! We're furious now!

JIM THOME!!!!!!!!
QUOTE (11and1 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) Only Ozzie can answer your question. But last night's debacle would have been easier for me to handle if it had been ANY Twinkie other than Thome. When Big Frank was with Oakland, before a then-crucial series out there, Ozzie stated repeatedly, "Whatever happens, we won't let Frank Thomas beat us." I don't remember the exact circumstances, but we pitched to him--I believe it was Jenks-- with 1st base open and men on. Those belt-high fastballs have yet to land, and cost us the games. As I said earlier, this is the karma of the wide world of sports and I have been both expecting and dreading this day simce Soxfest. Frank's departure had a karmic stench around it, and most of it came from the Sox--KW in particular. Same with Thome, except ALL of the bad karma came from the Sox. Ignore it it at your own peril..... Don't forget...if I had to name the biggest White Sox killers of the last 15-20 years...#1 on that list would be a certain former Indians 1b. The only teams he's put up a higher career OPS against than the Sox are the Cardinals and Phillies in limited AB's...and the Tigers.

Sox @ Twins SLUMPBUSTER SPECIAL THREAD 9/18
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) Please don't go there. No smart manager would make a move in the 5th inning to try and help his team. The only strategy that can be used in the first 6-7 innings is small ball. Hell, I keep coming back to our failure to use small ball in the 6th inning when AJ led off with a double and Alexei didn't bunt him to 3rd after showing bunt on the first pitch and wondering what happened.

Sox @ Twins SLUMPBUSTER SPECIAL THREAD 9/18
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) ^^ This. He would of been better off facing Scott Baker yesterday. Actually, a decent way to use him could have been having him facing any RHP that the Twins brought in from their bullpen...if Jones had come in to face the LHP in the 5th.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) Free Teahen? eh? Not against a LHP. His numbers against lefties are an upgrade from Kotsay, but that's about it.
