  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) Manny's injury worries me cause it sounds like it could come back at any time. But if that checks out, I would love the move. Even if he heals completely from this calf injury, he's in that position where straining a muscle for him might be as regular of a behavior as getting out of bed. He could probably strain a muscle while doing that.
  2. QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) Yeah - nobody wanted to touch Thome because of his back issues... Nobody wanted to touch Thome because he had about $45 million on his deal for 2006-2008 and the Phils weren't going to give him up for free. Gio and Rowand is a legitimate offer for him.
  3. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) Also there is this thing called a physical to see if Manny is good to play. A physical isn't going to tell you how susceptible his body is to muscle strains.
  4. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) Again, I'd love Manny because he would be motivated again. He probably didn't need to go on the DL, but the Dodgers overall are not playing good playoff ball. The MRI on Ramirez disagreed.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) Fixed I think they're the same guy.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) It's official, 3-team deal. Westbrook to STL, Ryan Ludwick to SD, prospects to CLE. The Cardinals just gave up a guy with an .827 OPS to get Jake Westbrook. They must really not like Ludwick.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:02 PM) I'd hate to see Kotsay's bat cool off though. Wow. He's actually hitting .154 than the break. And .097 for his last 8. That's impressive. We need to hook him up with Manny's trainer.
  8. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) Pretty sure Maggs was a juicer, based on the Ozzie comments after he left the team. I think there was a chance also. Just not sure how many people would have gotten away with that with big #35 in that locker room. If he wanted it gone I think it was at least out of the locker room.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) You honestly think that no one on our current roster has taken steroids in the past? Come on, a good chunk of the league has probably used and you'll never actually know. You just going to hate the guys that get caught? Don't have much choice. Anyway, ManRam isn't just a guy who got caught. He's a guy who's a HOF caliber player thanks to the chemistry.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) The Sox have had juicers on their team, both known and unknown to the public And I'm holding a grudge against Schoenweis for that.
  11. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) How can you say that? Who are you to predict an injury on a player? I respect you as a poster but right now it seems like you're letting an anti-juicer rage get to your head. I have no problem with being on an anti-juicer rage and you can accuse me of that all you want. He's on the DL for the 3rd time this season right now, all of them different injuries. Could he stay healhty for 3 months as a DH? Possibly, but let's not pretend that it's even close to likely. His body has been through hell for the past 20 years.
  12. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) Why is he on the DL? Scroll back 10 posts.
  13. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) So he is an injury risk? We have another talented outfielder who is an injury risk that no one seems to want to get rid of. All players have risks and if Manny's is he might get a booboo swinging a bat while he posts a .925 OPS for us and it doesn't take any major prospects, I'll take it. If it didn't take any prospects it'd have been done already.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) So you'd rather have Kotsay as our DH over Manny? Frankly, I don't want a juicer on my team. That said...he's not going to play the rest of the season without at least 1 more DL trip and we shouldn't pretend otherwise. There's a legit chance he comes back out, runs the bases any day, and then misses the rest of the season because of it.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:52 PM) Why is he on the DL? This time, strained right calf, 3rd time on the DL this season. He played 1 game after coming back from a strained hamstring and then was pulled with tightness in his calf. He's basically been gone since late June.
  16. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:50 PM) Well then maybe we should get him for these 2 months while they're still in effect. It doesn't matter if one of his ligaments gives out.
  17. Let's note 1 thing...Manny's had a total of 220 PA's this season. Mark Kotsay has 253. Mark Kotsay has played a lot more than Manny Ramirez.
  18. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) Has Manny had his suppliers this season? Because when he's played, he's posted a near .400 wOBA and a .925 OPS. I think we've seen from guys like Bonds that the strengthening effects wear off gradually over a few seasons in some cases, but the damage/injuries can happen at any point because the muscles have taken such an incredible pounding.
  19. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:47 PM) He'll be a lot healthier not having to play outfeild every day. Not necessarily. Jason Giambi's body broke down completely after he came off the juice and it didn't matter where they put him.
  20. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) Please get Manny. Dunn will cost us Beckham. Fixed. Anyway, you also have to hire Manny's suppliers, and I think those are still at the gym in Pasadena.
  21. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) He'll be a lot healthier not having to play outfeild every day. His body has been supported and beaten up by testosterone boosts for probably a decade +. His muscle tissue/bones have to be strained like crazy.
  22. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:41 PM) i actually went to fangraphs to look this up and then I read the post again. I’m an idiot. My work here is Done,.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) Manny cannot stay healthy That's what happens when you've taken steroids for 20 years, get caught, and then have to come off.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) Ditto. And what's the deal with Manny? He on the DL right now? Why the hell would we even want him so we could platoon him with Kotsay? Ugh. I'll pass. He's on the DL right now but is expected off it in a day or two.
  25. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:38 PM) Rays will not get manny they said they were out on Dunn for defensive reasons and will not bring mannys ego to that homegrown team What's Dunn's UZR at DH?
