  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:59 AM) Yup, definitely sucks. But at least we know something will go down. Hate giving up Hudson even more.
  2. Ick. Hate giving away games like that.
  3. QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:47 AM) I'm not a b-ball fan so I didn't care at the time but Cowley's tweet has "LeBron to the Bulls"-like disappointment written ALL over it.... That's why I keep thinking that the stuff out there in the twitterverse is 99% B.S. There's no penalty if you start putting names out there and they turn out to be wrong.
  4. QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:41 AM) jay_jaffe: "Like Haren, Edwin Jackson's been hurt by AZ defense/bad luck. .321 BABIP. 4.24 SIERA. " So not only is he in a hitter's park, but it's safe to say AZ's defense is much worse than Sox. Worth noting...his career BABIP is .309, and that is helped by the .279 he put up in Detroit last season (which helped him to a career year and got Scherzer to detroit). Without that year his career BABIP is probably right around .315.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) Which is what people were talking about prior to my comment. Even still, 25% pay little to no income tax, credits or no credits. I get the point that people with higher incomes recieve greater benefits from tax credits (by a few percent), but they're also incurring much more debt to get those credits, making it more difficult to pay the income taxes they owe. Again, you said "income tax" and not "Taxes", continuing the farce.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:35 AM) What have been the velocity readings on Jackson since the no-hitter? Has he sustained a loss since going almost 150 pitches in that outing? Link
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) I think if we got Edwin, we'd get him knowing he's been better than his numbers indicate this year Problem is though...you're paying for him as though he hasn't been bad this year.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) People are forgetting that Chris Sale is around and easily could be in majors for opening day, 2011. Really, no he can't.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) How about Westbrook and Choo in a mega deal? That might be the first thing written in this thread that makes enough sense to me to part with Hudson. Still leaves us screwed next year though.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:23 AM) I'm trying to search twitter for ANY hint at who KW is going after, but I cant find anything. I think there's really a key phenomenon happening here...when people are proven to be wrong about something, they don't suffer any downside, but there's a huge reward for being first out of the gate, so you throw stuff against the wall and see what sticks.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) Um, duh. Its not like they are going to pull of a deal to make them worse... Well, Edwin Jackson straight up for Hudson has a very good shot of doing exactly that.
  12. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:19 AM) Yes. And for all we know, Hudson will crap the bed again tonight. Hudson's going to beat the tail off the A's tonight.
  13. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) We're screwed. From the Kip "We're screwed" file...damn, we're really really screwed. (Nature abstract). I think this is about the appropriate reaction. Here's the BBC summary version for those who don't have Nature access.
  14. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:13 AM) I don't understand your point. The only people who don't pay anything in taxes are people with no/very very small incomes. You're not even correct in saying they pay no "income tax". They pay no "Federal income tax".
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) They didn't pitch him tonight...see my earlier post about how he warmed up, and then mysteriously sat down. That post was talking about Torres.
  16. I think the take home message from this Twitbarrage is that Hudson will be on the mound tonight.
  17. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:00 AM) Agreed should have went after Haren for this price. Hell, as much as the Astros are chipping in for Oswalt, Roy Oswalt would be cheaper next season for the Phils than Jackson would be for us.
  18. This is no way to run a government.
  19. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:57 AM) Can't see how since Arizona is in financial trouble themselves. I think a good comparison is the Vazquez trade...the Sox had to supposedly work like crazy just to get Arizona to chip in a million or so on that one out of his >$10 million salary.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) I have to imagine, if the Sox did give up Hudson, we would be getting some decent amounts of cash back. With the D-backs supposedly in "Salary cutting mode"...I doubt this'll be an Oswalt like payout.
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) Which equates to how many tens of millions of people? You don't think a quarter of the country's income recieving population is significant? Not what I was saying. Was saying that the thing you define as "paying nothing in taxes" is equal to "paying 20-25% of their income in taxes that i don't want to count because it undermines my entire point"
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) ERA bites people in the ass once again. A 4.3 FIP starter for the past two years at the back end of your rotation is more than acceptable. That said, Hudson was probably due for a 4.5 FIP this year... $8.35 million for that back end of the rotation guy next year though, especially when you probably only have $15 million to spend total and have another 7 spots to fill, is a terrifically bad idea.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) I just think it's a f***ed up system where a huge chunk of every day people who make an average living are still "responsible" for taxes that account for a decent percent of their income, despite the fact that 47% of the country pays "nothing." Again, Nothing =20-25%.
  24. Guys, you should all check Cowley's twitter feed!
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:46 AM) Cowley's twitter:
