White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) If we traded Jackson in a pennant race for Hudson, Id be furious. If we were in a pennant race and our 5th starter was a guy with a history of bad 2nd halves and an ERA over 5, and we traded him for a rookie and in the process saved ourselves $10 million+, I don't think I'd mind one bit. Reminds me of how sending Garcia to Philly for Gio and Floyd was structured, except that one was done after a season.

The Wave Sucks
I think we should do a full 3 hour wave session every time Edwin Jackson starts.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) Here's how to salvage the day. Trade Jackson and pay some of his salary to the Cubs for Lilly and Lee! How bout it. You're trying to make me walk outside and kill something, aren't you?

Athletics (Anderson 2-1, 2.35) @ White Sox (Harrell 0-0, 0.00)
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) I do. I like seeing Sox prospetcs debut. I'm worried, but if Harrell/Pena can give us 6 innings and 4 or less runs we should be in this game. Well of course they'll be in the game if that happens. I just have a whole lot of difficulty seeing that happen.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) Guzman may have been moved to make way for Morel. Most scouts think he makes a better 2nd basemen. Huh?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) I sort of want to see it. Can we keep the home win streak alive with this new pitcher? Can we score some runs at home and win? It has some intrigue to it. I'm sure I'll glance in a few times, but I'm expecting the battering Harrell gets to make Hudson's outing last week look like a good one.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Would I rather have Jackson for the rest of the season than Hudson? Yes My answer to this question is "No".

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) I have faith in them too and I hope there is some master plan. Part of the whole fun of talking about all this stuff while it is happening is to see how things develop and look back on what we all said. I believe that as it stands now a lot of people are saying that this is a bad trade but those same people also believe there has to be something more going on. Even if there is something else going on, this is still a bad trade. Someone else would have to make a worse trade to us involving Jackson in order for this to look good.

I really don't even want to watch this game.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) I wish you all had felt this way from 2001 to 2009. I think I am going to start calling this thread Lies the Democrats told me, because all it is anymore is a complete revision of history. Yeah. God d*mn those Democrats holding up so many of Bush's judges that it made it impossible for 2k5 to scroll upwards in the thread!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) Keep making excuses for a complete failure here. It is amazing how much your opinions have changed in like a year and a half. It can be a complete failure and your argument can still be nonsensical.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) That is garbage propaganda. Here's the classic bit of it. Lilnk It is 100% true that there are gigantic tax advantages to making money through certain types of market transactions (i.e. hedge fund managers) compared with working for a normal job.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) You don't see how this is 100% contradictory? Stopping and preventing problems isn't a part of fixing them? And if you don't see them under the same vein, that explains A LOT about why our government is so incredibly wasteful. So, BP has the same group doing its environmental impact statements as they have doing the engineering on their blowout preventors? Otherwise, that's equally wasteful.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
I can't imagine there is any possible way that KW will trade away John Danks for cheap prospecty players during a pennant race. That'd be worse than the White Flag deal; at least then we weren't already in first place.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) the people who like the hudson deal cant seem to figure out that payroll actually is a major factor Hell, even without payroll, I'm not sure Hudson can't outpitch Jackson this season. The usual rule of thumb is that the difference in ERA between a pitcher in the AL and in the NL, doing the same thing, is about 0.75-1.0 earned runs tacked onto your ERA if you go to the AL. On Jackson's performance this year, you might expect his ERA to wind up near 6. Furthermore, he is a career 1st half pitcher. Career ERA 4.47 in the first half, 5.09 in the 2nd half. He wears down, it looks like. Even worse, his ERA in August and September last year for the Tigers, during a pennant race, was 5.45. And that was pitching in Comerica for half his games.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) Fun related fact: The ocean is a large carbon sink in part because of these types of organisms. Hooray for positive feedback cycles! The ocean basically stopped being a large carbon sink a couple years ago. When you warm the ocean up and add CO2, it starts to acidify, and thus, can dissolve less CO2.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:59 PM) The superwealthy have a lower percentage tax burden than just about everyone else. BP can take a $10 billion tax credit on its oil spill related losses so far.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) I think Rizzo getting Ramos from the Twins probably empowered his line of thinking that he can ask for the moon from a team and get it The Diamondbacks trading Dan Haren for peanuts didn't seem to convince them to give up Jackson for peanuts.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) If memory serves me right he was viewed nationally as a higher level prospect than Hudson, and also, FWIW Jackson has a very good year in the AL under his belt only last year A very good year supported almost entirely by a career low BABIP and Comerica ballpark, terrible peripherals, and a total inability to perform in the junior league this year.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
I flipped back a couple hundred posts and I didn't see this comparison so I'm going to make it. Trading: A young, barely to the big leagues starting pitcher who's under your control for 6+ years for an older, expensive, pitcher with a good fastball who pencils in at best at the tail end of your rotation at best and who is struggling like Hell in a weaker league, and who may well be worse than the young guy not only next season but even this season? Sound like the Victor Zambrano for Scott Kazmir deal to anyone else?

Lucas Harrell starting tonight
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:21 PM) There better be a damn good return OTOH, Hudson didnt exactly dominate the A's last time out Even then...if he's dealt, we're going into this game with a minor leaguer starting after jumping off a plane and a 24 man(ish) roster. That's a recipe for a disaster. And if he only lasts 2-3 innings or something like that, then suddenly the bullpen is blown out for the next 2 games.

Lucas Harrell starting tonight
I'd just like to note how much I hate giving the other team a really good shot to win this game when we're 1.5 games up on the Twins.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:16 PM) it would tell me the White Sox didn't have Hudson rated extremely high on internal scouting And everything, and I mean everything, I've heard/read suggests the exact opposite. The best example is him being in the first Peavy deal last year and then KW pulling his name out of the one that actuallyhappened

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:06 PM) Cowley twats that Marquez is an option as well. He'd be pitching on 3 days rest. One of the futuresox threads said like 2 days ago that Marquez just went on the DL. Edit: here it is from JPN.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) Has he had more than the one incident and was it as violent as it is being portrayed here? I thought there was an incident but did he beat the crap of her or was there an altercation? This is the street corner in Boston right? If Hudson goes, it has to be for a pitcher. Link He's also had near-violent runins with members of the press.
