  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) In regards to Edwin Jackson, I wouldn't be super surprised if the Sox either extend him in the off-season and look at moving one of Floyd/Danks as they have a lot of money tied to the rotation, or if they swung him in an off-season deal for a younger bat. The key will be how Jackson pitches down the stretch. Extending Jackson? Where's that "Shooting myself" smiley?
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) I actually agree and I dislike Jones. Nice to see him in there in the late innings in right. Just release Kotsay (I know we can't, though, he's too good for clubhouse). We better send Lilly down and keep Viciedo up here. Make Kotsay a bench coach.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) It may ring hollow, but Jackson is a rental. He'll be traded this offseason for sure unless we trade Mark or we are freed of Paulie's contract, etc. Jackson will not be traded this offseason unless it's for a hill of beans. No one wants to be the team to trade for a guy that 4 different teams have soured on in the space of 2 years.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) I actually like Jones as a defensive replacement, occassional PH for $500k right now. Jones has been spectacular at his role. He might be the best 4th OF in the league.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 05:02 PM) Flowers might be gone this off-season and Danks is still a prospect. Why would Flowers be gone this offseason? The team won't be cutting him, and no one else is going to overvalue him after having a poor season.
  6. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) That makes me happy panda. And IMO, it won't be long before they rip up that deal and buy out an extra year or two.
  7. Lambo is a lot to mee.
  8. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) Jonathan Sanchez was seen hugging teammates in the dugout. Wasn't his name thrown out there as the possible cost for Dunn on the Giants end? I vaguely remember it was Toronto wanting him
  9. Yeah, I'd rather have done that deal with Westbrook. Cooper better think Jackson's a #1.
  10. The President wants Charlie Rangel out.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) Balta, a claim on waivers is a trade. You still agree to conditions, just as in a trade. The only difference is that if you claim a player on waivers, you would assume the remaining money left on that contract. It does not stand to reason, however, that you would assume money owed from previous years of employment with another team. That's a huge leap you're making. If indeed you are correct, that the claim would expose the White Sox to $26.5 (of the total $45 million) million in liability from the contract Manny signed with the Dodgers in 09'. And again, if that is the case, then no one will claim him on waivers, and so it's simply a moot point. The phrase I'm reading is that the team putting the waiver claim on them "assumes the balance of the contract". I think it's the $26.5 million, if that's what's still on there.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) I thought we almost blew Game One. The game Bobby blew is just a carbon copy of what they've done to us many times in the recent past. We almost blew game 1...but it was in the sense that we knew we had a big lead so we were willing to trade runs to get the game over quicker and we didn't want to deploy our big guns if we didn't have to.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Also I thought Oz's quote was pretty standard like, "Castro is making it hard for me not to play him." That's a good way of pumping up Castro and lighting a competitive fire in AJ w/out pissing him off too much. AJ was dynamite last night. Not just with the bats, but he pulled off a miracle keeping Harrell's brain together.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) I don't agree with you. The Dodgers traded for Manny when he was still under contract from the Red Sox. The Red Sox contract is paying him deferred money until 2026. Are you telling me when they traded him to the Dodgers, all those deferred payments became the liability of the Dodgers? No chance. That's different, that's a trade...the exact distribution of the dollars there is going to be specified by the conditions of the trade. Same with the ARod/Rangers deferred money. Claiming someone on waivers is going to be fundamentally different from a trade. In that case, the Red Sox were agreeing to keep some of the money on their books.
  15. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) The cost to acquire Jake Westbrook? One AA-pitcher. (That's what the Tribe got for him.) And he agreed to reduce his trade bonus to help get it done. Who was the AA pitcher?
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) KW and Cooper wanted Jackson Cooper had better have been on his hands and knees begging. KW better have said to Coop "There you've got him, now shut up" again.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) No, they absolutely would. But I don't know if the deferred compensation is attributed or tied to actual performance by Manny or not for the purposes of a trade. Because if it is not, the waiver claim would actually be like assuming $16.5 million, not $10 million. That doesn't seem right. The money in Manram's contract isn't tied to performance, I'm certain of that. You claim him, that's the last $ the Dodgers pay him and everything else on there is taken by you, unless they pull him back.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) forward yes, but I don't think they wouldn't assume the retroactive deferred money But that is money in the contract that simply hasn't been paid yet, it doesn't matter when he earned it. The Sox would take over everything on the contract from that point forwards, even if it's deferred from previous time.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) Wow, so we just got Jackson for the hell of it? We got Jackson because we wanted Jackson. I say this after every trade KW makes that looks bad but has someone suggesting "wait, this is just part of a larger deal!" If Jackson was even likely to go to Washington, the Sox wouldn't have made the deal, they'd have waited and tried to make it a 3 way deal that gets sent to the Commish. You don't complete the first deal unless you want the guy in the first deal, because the final deal can always fall apart.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) I am not sure about that. I am confused. Would all the deferred money be the responsibility of the White Sox? Or would it be divided pro-rata amongst the teams? Maybe Rosenthal is right...if it is pro rata, it would seem Manny would be owed about $6-7 million, 4-5 million of which would be deferred and $1-2 million paid out this season... If the Sox picked up Manny on waivers, I think the Sox assume every liability on that contract from that point forwards. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure I'm not.
  21. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:12 PM) Buster_ESPN Heard this: Already, a whole lot of speculation among rival FO about whether the White Sox will place a waiver claim on Manny in Aug.#trades 1 minute ago If they do, it's like a $10+ million 2 month rental.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) Again, you want Luke Scott up there in the Postseason rather than Manny? If you allow us to factor in the odds that the guy won't make it to the plate in the postseason due to injury...yeah.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) I've been pleasantly surprised by his lack of wild swings, I thought he would be Juan up there, he has laid off some good breaking balls in his limited ABs That's how he was in the minors too. He wasn't squaring up pitches last year so he didn't really intimidate people, but he gradually started taking BB's. He'll take the walk if people aren't going to pitch to him, but if you give him something in the zone, it's either in play or foul.
  24. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) Any idea how one gets a job working for a MLB club - working for the white sox front office for my entire life makes me want to... uh... smile. First step...acquire a deep understanding of what FIP is.
  25. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) an .820 OPS with zero walks. I'm not really sure that's impressive or bats*** crazy. It's both. The BB will come in time, part of that though is he needs the pitchers to be afraid enough of him to stay the Hell out of the zone (Vlad style).
