  1. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 07:55 PM) Between now and August 31st, correct? Just don't want to to be any more confusing... Correct, August 31st. Waiver wire trades can in fact be done after that but they're not eligible for the postseason roster (without the injury rule).
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 07:54 PM) Apple never should have bothered with any of this nonsense, if people dont like their iPhone, they should just return them. Case closed. It's sort of how it works with everything else in this country that you buy and dislike...you return it and get something else. This story has been so overblown from the get go, it's not even funny. It's pretty apparent by now that aside from Android users, nobody cares about this so called signal issue. I don't know a single person with an I4 that returned it. And considering they sold well over 4 million of them by now (not including the worldwide sales that just started this past weekend), it's pretty obvious by now that the only people that care about this are the people who were never buying one in the first place. Well, I'll admit it's scared me somewhat as a person who's considering one. I won't attempt it while they're still on AT&T and that's by far my biggest issue, but it did bother me a bit. Their reaction bothered me a bit too...lecturing users on how they're using it wrong didn't go over well.
  3. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) She very well may have but is there any proof the judge put out a press release about the threats? She didn't. The information I posted came from the U.S. Marshall's office.
  4. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) I basically told them my views, and it helped a few of them, one basically had already known he wouldnt do it because of his family and friends, but there was one who was completely sincere still. I had nothing else to say and felt terrible because of that. I mean, how do you get help for someone like that? Hard to say. Anything you can do to get them in the hands of a person who's actually qualified to deal with it. That's the general emotional shock treatment recommendation the Red Cross suggested to us...whatever we say, it's likely to wind up being the wrong thing in the case of a genuinely depressed, suicidal level person. We were basically trained to intervene if possible with the main goal being to pass the person upstairs to someone with training to deal with it.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 07:40 PM) Ok Captain Obvious... Basically I didn't want to say that makes the Oswalt acquisition worthless this year, because you never know, he could go out and do a CC-with-the-Brewers type run and pitch them straight to the playoffs, but you know...that almost makes it all not matter.
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) It's 47. I knew it was closer to 2 days than 1
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) It still confuses me as to why we need Torres to pitch in the DH. Because it's the only way to keep someone from having to pitch on short rest. Garcia + Buehrle (both on normal rest) Jackson D1 Floyd Buehrle or Garcia (either one on 3 days rest - this is the one we're trying to avoid) Garia or Buehrle (normal rest).
  8. I think we just disagreed on the number of hours Kal.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 07:36 PM) I'll root for Edwin. I really hope he proves me wrong.
  10. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 06:17 PM) Can someone explain the particulars with Detroit or Minny potentially "blocking" someone from getting to us. They can put in a claim on somebody (say Derek Lee for example). They can then either move forward with acquiring Lee if the Cubs were actually intending to move him (like Rios last year) or they can remove their claim, correct? At that point no one has claimed Lee and can't the Cubs just attempt to send him through waivers again? The same team that just removed the claim they made on Lee couldn't do the same thing again, correct? Am I right in thinking that the only way to "block" someone from getting to the Sox is for that team to actually acquire the player? If a player is put on revocable waivers, the rest of the league has just over 2 days (it's like 49 hours) for all of the other 29 teams to put in a claim on that player. If zero teams put a claim on that player, then the player has cleared waivers and can be used in a trade for other players that have cleared waivers or other people who have not yet made a team's 40 man roster. If 1 team claims the player, the original team (let's say the Dodgers) can either pull the player back (revocable waivers) or they can let that player walk, with the team putting the claim in assuming all remaining obligations on the players contract (Rios to us last year). If the team decides to let him go, and you really didn't want the player, you're screwed; you can't take back a waiver claim if the team lets him go. Alternatively, the Dodgers and the Sox could, prior to that 49 hour deadline, work out a trade, again involving other players that can clear waivers or not on the 40 man roster. If 2 teams put in a claim on the same guy, then that's the tiebreaker you mention. If 2 teams put in a claim on a player, then the first tie-breaker is being in the same league. If the Braves and the White Sox both put in a claim on Manny, then the Braves are the only team that matters. The 2nd tie-breaker is records; the weaker team gets him. If the Braves and the Pirates both put a claim in on Manny, the Pirates would be the team that gets him. So, from an NL team, it goes worst to best in the NL, then worst to best in the AL. If the Yankees and the White Sox both put in a claim on Manny, the White Sox would get him.
  11. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 06:44 PM) Yes, I missed it. We're even. I did the same gaffe in the Repub thread last week. I feel better now.
  12. Really, the only thing I can say is that if I were in that position, I'd have a tough time saying that I was capable of handling it. I'd seek outside help, and I'd try to have the other people seek outside help as well.
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 06:02 PM) Umm what? Chase Field is NOT a pitchers park.... This game was played in Citi Field in NYC, which is a pitcher's park. OTOH...we can kinda make the "going to a stronger league and to an even better power hitter's park" argument for why Jackson isn't going to improve.
  14. Ryan Howard helped off with a sprained ankle...if he's out for a long time, that really hurts them.
  15. At least "Lilliputian" no longer seems to fit.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) Gotta go to church but I'd expect many personal messages in my inbox congratulating me on Bobby Freaking Jenks! Adios. I believe "pride" is a sin, is it not?
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) Eh, no. Maybe you should stop assUMIng things! Was that a shot at the university of Michigan somehow?
  18. Very glad I watched that game. Loved it. Soxnet.net game wrapup.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) Bobby's got the ninth. I hope he pitches like he did last time out. He's got a 3 run lead. That makes me nervous. Less pressure on him.
  20. If we're going to need to call up an extra pitcher in addition to Teahen, then it's gonna be hard not to send Viciedo down, even for just a 10 day stint.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) Ugh, I do that once every 60k posts A lot better than my ratio.
  22. 8 IP, 3 hits, 1 BB, 1 run, 4 K's. 110 pitches, 70 strikes.
  23. The highest "game score" Edwin Jackson recorded this year was 85. I wonder what the number for Huddy is today.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) See, Ozzie just wanted to improve Thornton's inherited runners stats. (you're not in the game thread).
