  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) We should look at Dan Uggla. I think he could be converted to 3B, or worst case scenario be the DH. The Marlins completely flipflopped on him a few weeks ago and decided that they're keeping him for now.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) Oh, I've followed the Marlins since their inception into the league, I completely agree. But you're looking at a 24 year old reliever in AA and a guy on the DL with TJS. I don't think they could have been expected to get anything that significant, but they threw in cash, which they never do, and this was all they got. I will bet you that they've wanted those 2 guys for years.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) the operative words Now GMAFB, you don't make trades middle of this season based on the assumption that your pitcher will recover on a schedule that is 4-6 months slower than the expected recovery schedule for his injury. Hell, if you really think that there's any chance you won't have Peavy to start the season, the LAST thing you'd ever do is trade Hudson, because that'd put you as needing 2 new pitchers to start the season instead of 1.
  4. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) The team is going to need pitching next year, I am not sure on the timeline on Peavy's recovery but I would think it will be a while before he can start throwing again and it is conceivable he may miss the first part of the season getting back in shape and rehabbing. So getting Lilly now and taking a chance on offering arb offers vrey low risk, if he accepts you have a fairly servicable 4, if he declines you get to take that money and roll into into drafting quality players in the draft and do with some combination of Hudson, Sale, maybe Garcia or whoever KW can pull off on the cheap. Peavy ought to be back to throwing condition before the start of the new (calendar) year.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) In the past 2 or 3 it's taken a major turn. Were you here in 2006-2007?
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) For nothing. Teams who's scouts I trust to rake other teams over the coals in trades, for me, goes something like this: 1. Florida Others receiving consideration: Minnesota.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) I'm really setting myself up for a monumental let down on Saturday evening when the deadline passes and we don't make a move for an impact bat, it's just really hard not to get excited when you're reading every single report out there. If we walk out of this weekend with Hudson, Viciedo, Morel, and Santos still in our org, I'll be quite content. Even if we made a deal, it's not like Kotsay would stop getting his bloody at bats and we all know it.
  8. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) At least with Alexei batting 7th Ozzie won't have him bunting the AB after he hit a HR. That's only true because the guy batting in front of him won't be on base.
  9. Local Cleveland DJ sees Lebron at his party, tries to wave high, gets the bird in reply.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) They are missing so much of their core, not to mention they have soooo many free agents coming up, they need to see if they can find guys who can save next year, instead of having to put all of your eggs into the free agent basket. Part of the reality of having SOOOO many free agents on their team to replace for them is that pretty much every one of the guys they need to replace is heavily overpaid. Ordonez, Bonderman, Willis, Damon, Inge, Laird, etc. That's liek $50 million available to spend if they get back to the same amount this year. When you throw in having guys like Boesch, Scherzer, Jackson, and possibly Porcello taking spots as minimum-salary guys out of ST next year, the only reason why they'll be hurting at all next year is if they take a major team salary cut. The White Sox have an awful lot of spots to fill next season also...but they're doing so with about $15 million instead of $50.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) Can the Nationals risk another Soriano situation where they only get draft picks for a top guy? In this case, I don't see why not.
  12. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) I'm not sure what he brings except a more expensive version of Jim Thome. Great. Get me the normal Thome insteand and I'll be thrilled.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) scoreless appearances only is for earned runs? I thought it was whether a run was scored, earned or not I think you're right also.
  14. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) We're screwed. Look at the bright side. The Republicans will get stuck having to deal with even more Mexicans.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) Rosenthal says, for now, Yankees out of Dunn sweepstakes. They were in it?
  16. Christ, $11 million? You're kidding right? That goes from ok to spectacularly awful.
  17. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) MLB network trade deadline special just reported Oswalt a done deal. I find it interesting outside of Happ the other two prospects were AA (valarie?) and low A (Gost) players, and HOU ate salary. He was by far the best picther available and that isn't a great return. Maybe we'll be suprised by who we get and what it takes to get them. The Haren and now Oswalt deals included a lot of high ceiling prospects (low A guys). Our biggest problem with wanting to do deals with high ceiling, low-A ball guys is; our top 3 names from our 2009 draft, who would be hanging out in those levels this year, are all hurt.
  18. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) It's really been quite the opposite. Both Haren and Oswalt have been traded for pretty terrible packages. If the Phillies have to pick up his option and there's no money coming in, that's somewhat balanced I'd say.
  19. QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) It's been a hotter than average summer, no? Get used to it.
  20. Is Chicago expecting any police layoffs this year with the expiration of stimulus funds?
  21. I couldn't help but think about Michael Jackson while reading that.
  22. As a major creditor, Alex Rodriguez has filed an objection to the Rangers current bankruptcy settlement plans.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) This is true. Hey, have the other oil companies in the Gulf revised their emergency response plans so that they're no longer calling a dead guy? edit: or are they too busy making fake environmental advocacy groups? There was actually a report a couple weeks ago that a consortium of oil companies was banding together and planning to spend several hundred million dollars to develop a permanent version of the hard cap BP is currently using that could be rapidly shipped and deployed in the event of a deepwater blowout like this one, thus cutting out the response time from weeks to days and giving less time for the oil to attack the integrity of the well walls.
  24. QUOTE (bulokis @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) Dan Bernstein said from his source, the Sox have a lot of scenarios and Adam Dunn is not the only big name linked with the White Sox. This is trader Kenny we're talking about. If there's a player in the big leagues he doesn't know the price for, I'd be shocked.
  25. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) Why not just keep Ramirez in the 2 hole? Brutal. Bah on that one...it's not exactly like Vizquel's been a liability there. If we're going to have anyone give themselves up as an out I'd rather it be him than Lexi.
