  1. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:31 PM) To me looks like the Angels stole Haren... couldn't the Sox have beat that deal? Sure. Which young major league starter do you want to give up. Danks or Floyd?
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) They just upgraded their rotation big time, and unless they gave up Trout, it seems like a steal for them. Unless there's real quality on the PTBNL list, none of the guys the Angels gave up were top 10 prospects in their system coming into the year.
  3. Except for Mr. PTBNL, none of those guys were on the Halos top 10 prospects list coming into the year.
  4. At least as of now, McGrady couldn't be saying things more correctly.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:19 PM) I don't have a problem with T-MAC as long as he understands his role on this team. The minute he protests he should be dropped like it's hot, but as risks go it's a pretty decent one to take. Between having watched the Iverson meltdown last year and having no contending team other than the Bulls interested in him...and his only other option being the Clippers...and even the Knicks not wanting a part of him, if he's not going to get the message, he never will.
  6. I never liked that shoulder shrug.
  7. Wonderful work there by Pierre. Come on Paulie!
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) Paul's going to get a max contract no matter where he goes. If the rules stay the same and he wants to go somewhere else for less, good for him, but he has zero leverage, and players telling teams to trade them and telling them where to trade them will ruin the league if it is allowed to happen. He has plenty of leverage if he simply tells a team that he won't sign with them if they trade for him. You're right, he'll get a max contract somewhere...but there's no reason to trade for him if he's said he won't sign with you.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) True, but there question marks about the health of everyone in the starting rotation coming into ST. It was pretty obvious that one of them would go to the DL during the season. We're damn lucky it's only been one. Which is why you had a 6th starter who was right where he belonged in AAA and who was deserving of a callup whenever a spot opened up. You just had to put yourself in a position where if he acted like a rookie pitcher and had some ups and downs you could hit your way through them. And you had to put yourself in a position where you didn't have a gaping hole that you'd need to fill by trading that pitcher.
  10. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:09 PM) And they don't want the risk of injury for throwing too many. That might be Jenks's problem. I doubt it's Hudson's. I just think Hudson can't get it over the plate right now.
  11. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:07 PM) The same place where Bobby's curve went. They aren't being called enough for whatever reason. Neither one of them can throw that pitch for a strike right now.
  12. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) I hope he can settle in quickly. Not sure how much longer we can settle for these types of performances while he gets MLB 'experience'. If we weren't in a race, we could put up with it but... Really, it's not like we're going to have a choice here. Trading Hudson for a rental starter would be silly.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:04 PM) Nobody would be saying a thing if not for Peavy being out. There's more pressure on him because of that. I really don't know how the hell KW is going to be able to fix the offense and even somewhat cover up the massive hole that losing Peavy has created. Really, it's not possible. The right answer was to sign a legitimate DH in January instead of pretending that Kotsay would somehow hit .290 again. Once you make that mistake, you're screwed. Trading Hudson would have been a bad idea if Peavy had stayed healthy; we're really going to need another starting pitcher next year and we won't have the money for it.
  14. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:00 PM) Would like alittle more consistency from ST posters. First it was "damn Huddy is a stud" from his last start and now "Huddy is overrated." He'll be more than fine no doubt in my mind. Pretty much an adjustment period for him. He was brutal the first month for AAA before dominating the last two months. He would be damn good if he was pitching like a reliever, but he is taking his slumps as a starter with more innings, more patient hitters, etc.. Honestly he is one of the least of my worries if he'll still be here in this pennant race. He'll be fine, it may just take a few months or even a year or two. Like most starting pitchers. And it's fun and easy to pretend that isn't the norm...gives you a chance to say how we should dump him immediately.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 05:57 PM) So it's going to be 4 of 5 games then? Would you be surprised? I wouldn't. Wow, what a horrible play.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 05:54 PM) 4 hits or less for our hitters against the starting pitcher in 3 of the last 4 games. Ok, at least 1 of those was against King Felix, so let's just write that one off, that was going to happen anyway.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) Hawk's in "tip your cap" mode. He's doing that because our hitters have tipped their caps. He made the real point that inning too...where he pointed out that Braden hasn't gotten a curveball over all day.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 05:28 PM) As long as it's not Putz and Thornton, I don't really care. Hopefully Danks can throw a 2-hitter tomorrow night. Jenks really, really needs to get 2 innings of work today.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 05:27 PM) The Brewers have a scout at today's game. I doubt he's impressed. I really think Hudson will be pretty good if he ever stops walking guys. Scouts are very rarely influenced by how a rookie pitcher's totals against major league hitters look. They're vastly more interested in what the guy is throwing.
  20. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 05:23 PM) except AJ would probably be a whiny bit** about not playing He hasn't exactly looked stellar behind the plate today fielding stuff Hudson has thrown.
  21. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) as bad as flowers has been at AAA, he cant be worse than AJ. at least he would have some power and walk sometimes Actually, I think he can be. He could be Brandon Wood bad right now.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) He's just a terrible hitter now. I'm not even joking when I say that Ramon Castro needs to get more ABs. I hate the f***ing "personal catcher" stuff, as it screws you out of good match-ups. It would be working just fine if Castro was still facing LHP in addition to catching Garcia.

Worth considering...since Sheets is now on the DL, that probably means the A's will have no trouble with him clearing waivers after the 31st. If he is actually able to become healthy by the end of August, he's still going to be someone the A's can trade.
