Don't they usually give the OF gold gloves to 3 CF's or at least 2 CF's and Ichiro?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 12:35 PM) They didn't "benefit" from anything as most of these were contracts already in place. So, your argument is that once those companies went bankrupt without the Fed/Congressional intervention, they'd have kept their gigantic salaries from the defunct company?

The question is...stupid strategically or stupid politically.

Prince Fielder Speculation
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 11:56 AM) It's a question of whether we can continue to get excellent results from our 1-4 while going .500 during the 5th starter's games. If we could get that done with Fielder in our lineup than we should lock up the division and make the 5th slot a moot point in October. Of course that puts a ton of pressure on our 1-4 to get the job done but with added offense it might not be so bad. With TPain as the 5th starter...and nothing even resembling a long man in the pen, and presumably Marquez taking the decent innings Pena has gotten (since he's the only one we left)....500 from the 5th starter would be a miracle. I think we'd be lucky to win 1 out of the last 10 starts from the 5th stater spot.

If we win this game, we're 5-5 on this road trip.

Ok, some of the ridicule is still fun. Those guys visited Comic-on this weekend. The counter protest...brought glory upon the hypno-toad.

Prince Fielder Speculation
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) Stretch out Pena and find someone to take his spot in the pen? I'm not sure that wouldn't more than offset whatever extra wins we'd get from Fielder in the lineup.

Ben Sheets
I'd take him as a waiver claim.

Prince Fielder Speculation
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 03:36 AM) If you think about it, Hudson-Flowers-Viciedo-Torres-Short could be far-and-away the best offer the Brewers would get considering the Rays and Angels don't seem like they want to touch him and the Giants probably wouldn't match that. It's also the only deal I could see the Sox parting with Viciedo. Who fills the 5th starter spot?

Did a solid job of sweeping this under the rug. I'll await Kap telling me how that's too mean of the government anyway and they deserved his tax dollars. If only they'd taken more, then the economy would be fixed.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 12:45 AM) About the whole Chris Paul thing... If he wanted out so much, why the hell did he sign a 3 year extension in '08? Guess what CP3? You know what you got yourself into, now deal with it. Because in 2008, that team was still trying to win.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 08:18 PM) Do it. I want to see them just try it and realize what a cluster**** they'd be in. Kap would have his wish. I'd finally be out of his country.

QUOTE (ICP! @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 08:28 AM) WTF caused this? Unless I skimmed over it I didnt see any thoughts on what this might of been. Beats me. He seemed recovered enough last night to endure 2 hours in a nearly 100 degree room. That man can still lay down one hell of a guitar-laden audio assault. I still miss Jimmy Chamberlain though.

QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) +1.....i was upset we missed out on the big 3 but so did everyone else...i really believe they had that all planned out all along.... and this roster that has been configured this offseason is the best possible scenerio....i'd still like to have T-MAC as our 6th man....if that happened i would definately carry a smile on my face I think he'd be more like the 12th man than the 6th man at least going in to training camp.

RF Defense - Quentin or Dye?
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) Balta... you know I don't speak Spanish. Over a full season, Quentin's D is estimated to be 4 runs worse than Dye's, with Dye being 26 runs worse than average. I doubt that "4 runs" is really significant at that level.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) I just don't see how the numbers align with all this depth. I would much rather have eight strong player than 12 above-average players. One other benefit of being 11-12 deep...a lot of these guys at the back end are either young and on rookie contracts or are veterans and on short term contracts. That means they make solid trade bait if a serious upgrade is put on the market midway through the season or after the end of the lockout. If you wind up being too deep, you can turn that depth into a guy who fills a hole and make yourself even better.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) With the injury history's of the guys on this team, you go as deep as you can. There you go. Rose...injured for a month last year. Deng...walking wounded. Noah...Plantar Fasciitis. Boozer...injury history too long for me to look up. That's 4/5 of the starting lineup with injury histories. Then throw in a guy like Asik.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) so is this because we use more coal so substituting doesn't change much? What accounts for it. Coal releases more CO2 per unit energy than gasoline. That's their argument. But the mitigating factors wind up overcoming it when you do the math correctly. The big one is still that coal fired electricity plants are more efficient per unit power than the internal combustion engine because of the 2nd law.
