QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 12:14 PM) The ridiculous assertion that Britain hasn't made any significant medical contributions since 1945 aside, you still haven't explained why a single-payer system means there's no reason to improve business operations, medical techniques, customer service, medicine, etc. You can capture larger client bases and/ or reduce expenses even if your price is fixed. You can treat more people with new drugs and procedures and better diagnoses. And, of course, the radical idea that some people might become doctors, pharmacists, chemists, biologists, nurses, etc. because they want to help people. The other thing worth pointing out is that a lot of the "Significant medical contributions" the U.S. is making right now, especially in the pharmaceutical industry...is figuring out ways to sneak around patent rules, rather than focusing on newer generations of medicines. Or, you get things like ED treatments, which while useful, I'm not sure that every company needs to develop one. What would be really useful for mankind is not necessarily what is the most profitable. So you end up with billions spent on Cialis ads, while we're 20 years overdue in funding a new method for producing flu vaccine, for example.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Keep sucking off the 25% like a tick while b****ing about it. At least in my world, I'm still of the belief that we already have the technology to be dumping oil and dirty energy in general. We just don't have the will.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) Not one post on how mature Lebron is for staying in Akron and not going on some huge tour. But there'd be a ton about how much of an ego he has if he turned this into a country wide tour. I don't think that the location is as much of a deal for Lebron. South Beach is great, but Lebron could live anywhere in the world right now and he chooses to live in Akron. Which I guess is more of an edge for staying in Cleveland, but at least it's not all about the beach and warm weather for Lebron. I'll give him some props on that, I wasn't looking forwards to him touring the country for 3 weeks, and so a "Summit" is an improvement.

Soxnet.net game wrapup.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 06:21 PM) Liney in the 9th?? What do we think? I'd love to keep our main guys fresh for tomorrow if possible, but don't want to give them any momentum heading into tomorrow's game either... Do not use any of Putz, Thornton, or Jenks.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) Jake could go another inning maybe. He is still throwing 93 MPH and less than 100 pitches. But, Ozzie might want to be cautious No reason at all to push him with "Fluid in his shoulder" and a 6 run lead.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) JFP gets Soto. 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K. OK, I guess. Gavin Floyd is scoffing at that.

2 straight 7 inning shutouts for our starters.

Soriano really helped Peavy by swinging early

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 05:54 PM) Nice job by Rios holding Lee to a single. Zambrano's gonna be pissed at Lee for not taking that base.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 05:51 PM) I don't know if this series is his last stand. I don't know if KW would pull the trigger on that with the team winning at this great clip. If Teahen comes off the DL and Beckham is hitless from now on, I can't see how you keep Beckham over Viciedo.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) Wow, is that really true? We must have blown it at 9 several times then I'm sure. When we won 9 in 2006, it was the first time we'd won more than 8 straight since 1977.

There's our first possible storm forming that could head towards the gulf.

Q 2b. Sweetness.

11 in a row retired by JFP. THat's our usual 10+ retired streak.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) Ok, but hospitals try to maximize their own profit by spending money to update facilities and employ the best doctors right? So, the more a hospital makes, the more it re-invests into specialty practices (and overall, better doctors) to attract the most customers. Problem is...that's not the only thing that can make a hospital money. A hospital can also make money by doing more procedures, or by doing more expensive procedures, or by gaining a measure of exclusivity with certain insurance companies that will pay them more for the same procedures, or by cutting their expenditures on doctors without losing numbers of procedures...etc.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) considering the game will have the DH, an extra 1B can be considered the "reserve" DH. Basically, Vlad is the starting DH, and Konerko fits in as the 2nd one...but that's the only reason PK14 makes it.

BECKHAM IS ALIVE!

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) One can hope. We wouldn't have heard about that Magic deal otherwise. Makes too much sense if the Bulls land Lebron. Only downside is that it could make the Magic a lot better.

Sigh.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) He started few games early in the season, Im sure he can go the distance. He last threw 110 pitches on May 26. Since then he's appeared in 5 ballgames, throwing 14, 19, 19, 10, and 6 pitches. The 6 pitches was on June 24.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) Will this guy be an All-Star this year? No.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) On the planet where we have LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and 2M more cap space. Kirk Hinrich just fits and rounds out a starting five of Rose/LeBron/Bosh/Noah better than Deng. Sure, he's no great shooter, but he takes pressure off of Rose to defend the tougher guard and thats not taking into account Hinrich's team first attitude compared to Deng's me first attitude. Plus, that $2M could go towards a 3pt shooter. Now, that being said if I'm starting a team and have to pick either Deng or Hinrich to build around, it's Deng. There's no way they sign Lebron and don't move Deng to fill their bench. No way.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) lol Brenly called the Cubs a"dead ass team". Somebody's not afraid. They certainly seem lively in the dugout.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) Quentin's OPS is now .776. If Q had hit all season like he's been hitting lately, would we be in 1st place right now?
