  1. And you assume that Jenks doesn't get offered arbitration, then you wind up with my $12 million figure if the total salary hangs around $95 million.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) But it's like Tony Pena...if a lot of the runs were from a few bad games, then you have to worry a little less about the ERA. If he ends the season with 2 or 3 blown saves, and can pitch well in tie game situations, I'll consider it a great year. I'd call it somewhere between a good and a very good year, but I'm not sure how you can have a great year and write off 2+ months. I don't think Quentin can possibly have a great year either. Ditto Beckham.
  3. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) Correct, but that doesn't mean that Bobby cant end up with a great year Actually, I think it probably does. He'd need to give up like 5 runs total in his next 30+ innings to get his ERA to a decent place for the season.
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 05:54 PM) It's a worthless stat for evaluating a pitcher, I don't think anyone would deny that. Might mean something to Gavin though so it would still be nice to see him get a W one of these days since he's been pitching his ass off lately. He can always take solace by asking D1 how it feels.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) It's going to be a Brian Anderson 2006 situation soon where they have no choice but to put a veteran over there. Anderson was actually showing signs of slowly improving, Beckham is getting worse, and Anderson at the time was at least stellar with the glove.
  6. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:50 PM) I did!! As was I! Ok, for a moment there I panicked, don't want to drive away the website's active posters with minor league info that we all crave
  7. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 05:15 PM) That's a legit point of concern, for sure. I checked your math on having about $12M to fill 8 positions next year and it's pretty much correct. Then again, if the Sox continue to play well and draw (31,000 on a Thurs afternoon game today), JR may hold the payroll at $100M for another year, allowing us to re-up PK for something in the 2/15 range and fill 3B with Viciedo. I'm not sure that Morel would even be ready next year. If we keep the payroll up near $100 mil, that clears us from $12 million to $15 million + available, which makes things easier but not perfect, because we're still suffering from lack of a DH, 1b, and closer, all of which can be expensive, on top of needing more setup men. I'd do that Konerko deal also, but then we have to figure out the closer's spot, and we're not offering Jenks arbitration.
  8. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) I could as well, but Kenny could always counter with Morel and a couple of middle-tier 'specs. I'm not sure I'd want to give up Morel either...but then I'm scared about n ext year a lot.
  9. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) Berkman's been bad this year, and his splits are showing a decline in peformance. If we're out to get a better left-handed bat who won't cost Hudson/Flowers/Viciedo, I'd rather have LaRoche. I could totally see the DBacks demanding one of those 3.
  10. Soxnet.net game wrapup.
  11. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) NO FAIR!!! You all get to talk about different women who are attractive or not so much ...the second I mention a guy lookin' good... I get ban threats ..all because he's from a different team!! BOO!!! LOL ....I can't help it, ok? ...I like Baseball and most of the famous guys I'm attracted to, are players ...they can't all be on the same team!!! ..If girls got to pick the teams, they would be that way ..BUT for now ..you guys are just going to have to excuse my attraction to a Twin!! **PLEASE?!** LMFAO Hopefully you realized I was kidding, right?
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) Insane, 2 max contracts. Crazy. Crazy. I don't know what it means for Deng if we go for LBJ, but I could make a case that you could play LBJ/Deng/Johnson in a small up tempo lineup. I don't see why the Magic wouldn't do the Pietrus + Gortat deal if the Bulls were willing to do it. Their starting lineup gets another upgrade including better scoring, and they could use the MLE to add to the depth that they'd just lost.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) NUMBER NINE, NUMBER NINE, NUMBER NINE, NUMBER NINE, NUMBER NINE, NUMBER NINE, NUMBER NINE, NUMBER NINE, NUMBER NINE, You dirty hippy.
  14. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) If they have enough room to sign him under the cap. The MLE is used in case signing a player will put them over the cap or if the team is already over the cap. Well, that just means the Bulls will have the MLE once they finish signing the other 2 guys, that's not really anything.
  15. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:21 PM) I think (but not certain) that a team can continue to go over the cap as much as they want, but they'll have to deal with a higher luxury tax. I could be completely lying though. The team can go over the Tax, but they can only offer so many contracts to players that they don't currently hold the rights to. Once they hit the cap level by signing Bosh and Lebron, they have to start making use of the MLE, veterans exemptions, and the players they hold the rights to who played for them this year. The thing that will push the Bulls over the Tax level is extending Noah this year and Rose next year, but once you've signed Lebron+, no one really cares, and if you can't make money with that team JR, then you're the worst businessman ever.
  16. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:19 PM) LOL, click my signature to see proof of that. I am going to miss PK next year, one of the all time great White Sox players, a clutch player and Cub killer. What else can you want?? I would really like to see PK14 be the guy we bring back next year as a 1b/DH if we can get him for say 2/$14.
  17. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:15 PM) just because he's a Twin?!? LOL Obviously, yes.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:19 PM) So the Bulls will have the MLE available to use? Good deal, I had read conflicting reports on that in a few places. If there's a way for a team to lose the MLE rights I don't know what it is.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) A question for you salary cap wizards. If we signed LBJ and Bosh, can we just keep signing guys and go over the cap (as Reinsdorf has stated he's ready to pay the luxury tax) or does additional salary need to be acquired via trade and/or extensions? I'd assume the latter given everyone is trying to clear space BEFORE free agency opens, so I guess I've answered my own question. Once we sign Lebron and Bosh to max deals, we'd likely have only a couple hundred thousand left under the cap. I'm 99% sure that you can team that money with the MLE and make a $5.xx million offer to push you to the cap plus $5 million over the MLE. From there, the Bulls could acquire other players by doing sign and trade deals with the guys that played for them last year, or they could take on salary by trading Deng and having slightly more money come back. They may also receive a trade exemption for dealing Hinrich's contract, I'm not sure on that one.
  20. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) I agree for the most part, I certainly don't think LBJ wants to play second fiddle to anyone, but again, if Pat Riley and Wade show up at Lebron's door with a promise Chris Bosh is going to join the Heat, I have hard time believing GarForPax is going to be able to convince Lebron to play for Chicago in December and January. The other part to think about though is the city size. Simply put, the marketing opportunities in Miami are a lot less than Chicago. And one company that knows that is Nike.
  21. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) I know they both stated all that BS about wanting to win a championship earlier in the year, but I truly believe Lebron doesn't want to go anywhere where he's gotta share a spotlight. Someone will go down to Miami, it's just who is the question. I think Amare is an excellent fit there.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) I think you sign LeBron and Bosh if you can and worry about shooting guard later considering you'd have the best 1-2-3 punch in the league in such a scenario. Basically, you sign Lebron and any of the other top 5 or so guys, whichever position you still have to fill, you can move Deng to try to fill it, and use the MLE as well. And between Rose, Lebron, and whoever you sign, you're not likely to need a lot of scoring, so whichever position you still need to fill, you can look for a defensive stopper.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) Attempt a steal or just bunt him over? Don't waste the bloody AB on the Bunt.
  24. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) Ahhh Joe Mauer ...not too bad to look at!! Ok...now you're just begging me to ban you...
