If Pena's wrist winds up bruised, then maybe we'll finally have a reason to call up Torres and have a long man in the pen.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) But what's the chances of 3 consecutive two-out singles? Or a 2-out double, or a 2 out HR, or an error on a throw, lots of things that can happen.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) If Konerko came to bat with 2 out in an inning and had a 3-0 count, some on here would rather have him take and hope for a walk where it may take 3 consecutive hits for him to score, then to look for something in his sweet spot and hack away? I'd rather have him take the walk. Even in a good year, the odds of him hitting a HR on 1 swing are only a couple percent.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) Kalapse has to have a stat about this!! This season in the MLB, there have been 660 at-bats that ended at a 3-0 count. There have been only 36 that turned into at-bats with either a hit or an out recorded. The rest have either been walks or moved on to 3-1 counts.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) Why, so you can draw a walk? I'd prefer a hit with the chances of an extra base hit. You're the last guy I'd expect to be arguing that OBP is a bad thing.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) Who cares about the WNBA? I can't even find a creative response to this. You're comparing Lakers/Celtics to the WNBA? I can understand why you'd prefer the Hockey game, but don't begrudge those of us who'd like to watch the basketball game.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) And two of the 5 potential difference-making prospects suffered horrible injuries this season costing them an entire year of development. Don't forget Phegley.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) Hawk will never rip Ozzie, but even he can't believe the power hitters don't get a 3-0 green light. GMAFB. How thrilled were we last night when AJ grounded out softly with 3-0? How many 3-0 groundouts do we need?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:16 PM) Also, some changes in philosophy, such as being more aggressive with 3-0 hitting would be nice to see. Really? You think part of the problem with these guys is not being sufficiently aggressive?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Can't have a few more when you have none to begin with (well, aside from Danks). That Beckham guy we tried out last year looked pretty good and I thought he was pretty young? Whatever happened to him?

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Obviously, if we fire Ozzie, we aren't going to do anything this year. I don't think anyone who is all there in the head would disagree. This team is 100% done. If we stick out the year with Oz at the helm, we'll fade into oblivion and all that we gained from '05 will be gone (if its not already). The real question you have to ask is...can you find a manager who will do a better job with the future of the team?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) I don't think anything changes here. I honestly think this organization values 2005 that much. This is incredibly depressing. I won't mind if there are no organizational changes. I will be darn mad if we keep this up and we don't start selling players to move on.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) You really think it matters if they win this game 8-7 or lose it 10-8 or lose it 15-2 in regards to what the franchise is going to do? It would be like basing giving a guy a $50 million extension based on one AB. If Ozzie quits or gets fired, Joey Cora is the manager. If Greg Walker gets the shaft, Gary Ward is coming in, and that already turned out badly. Maybe they can hire Rudy Jaramillo as their hitting coach? I hear the team he's working for isn't hitting all that well.

Who's brilliant idea was it to put the hockey and basketball games on at the same time tonight?

Then buehrle decides tos ee if he can throw a pitch higher than AJ's throw.

If You Want a Top Prospect
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) Are you serious? Matt LeCroy and Denny Hocking? You're going to name those guys and argue that those Twins teams were better than us? I guess if there's a single thing you want to say the Sox have done too much, it's rely on guys who are either up there in years or injury risks...Thomas, Thome, Dye, Quentin, Jenks, Contreras, David Wells, to be some of our biggest producers at their positions, and then done so with no real backup plan if they fail. My argument against that though is...if your star doesn't produce, you're not going to win.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) But you use some of the money you free up from Buehrle's contract to extend Danks. Why would you want to do that right now?

The Suggested Moves / Who Goes/Stays thread
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) If Kenny going into rebuilding mode, I agree. If not, I'm not comfortable with Floyd, Hudson, and an unknown making up 60% of the rotation. Mark is one of those guys that I would only deal for a high level, MLB-ready guy and then a few lower level pieces to go with.

If You Want a Top Prospect
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) I'm not talking about individual plays in the field as much as I am talking about responding to challenges as a team. Bouncing back and winning games you must win. Putting together a streak down the stretch. I believe we've had more talent on our rosters than our record over the last 10 years would indicate. Kenny has said he is befuddled as well. I know the Hawkeroo is. Maybe I'm just drinking the same cool-aid. But when we're talking about a lineup of Frank Thomas, Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Lee...losing to young Cleveland and Minny teams with rosters I can hardly even recall....I dunno.. But we've come right back to my point again... Teams that aren't winning don't put together a streak down the stretch. On that Frank, Mags, Carlos lineup...look at how the years went. In 2003, we genuinely got beat, but Frank was no longer the hitter he once was, and that was the year Konerko was awful and recovering from that foot injury. In 2004, Frank and Ordonez were injured most of the year. 2002, Frank only put up an .834 OPS and our starting rotation was Buehrle, Garland, Danny Wright, Gary Glover, Todd Ritchie, and then a handful of starts from guys like Rauch.
