  1. QUOTE (BFirebird @ May 12, 2010 -> 01:37 PM) On a side note...just out of curiosity how does Pavano get an ER on the double steal/error? The rule is...it counts as an earned run if it would have scored even without the error and the rest of the inning proceeded the same way. Pierre would have been at 3rd and scored on Konerko's hit without the error. Thus, it became an earned run. If the inning had ended with no more hits, it would have been unearned.
  2. And Alexei immediately follows it up with a sharp single.
  3. When things are going badly...
  4. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 12, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) Am I looking at this right? Danks has been so good, but Lefties are hitting .318 against him? Yup, 14/44 coming into this game. Righties are hitting .179 against him. I think that's the changeup/cutter combo he has working.
  5. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 12, 2010 -> 01:28 PM) Two errors now by Mauer in the series. The Twins only have 8 errors now all year... Thought the announcers said the error last night was on Hudson.
  6. QUOTE (johnnymick @ May 12, 2010 -> 01:26 PM) What? The pitcher doesn't bat, this is the AL. Think about the statement a bit more.
  7. Who will have more strikouts in this game, Quentin or Danks?
  8. 17/21 on the season for Pierre now. 2-0 Sox now.
  9. 16/20, for an 80% clip on the season so far.
  10. And Pierre instantly takes 2nd. W00t.
  11. Pierre leadoff single on an 0-2 pitch. Woot. Get running Pierre, no DP's this time.
  12. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 12, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) i just don't see there being any control over costs. Well, then give us a public plan. That's the only cost control measure that wasn't in there in some form.
  13. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 12, 2010 -> 01:06 PM) you can hire foreign nationals. I was at a WiPro (big technology service company) shop the other day. They have like 99.99% foreign nations working for them here in the US. But yes, employers will avoid hiring illegals. Which is good. That likely means that they have a sufficient supply of skilled worker visas to meet their demand. There's not nearly enough of those to meet business demand, nationwide. let alone the demand for less-skilled workers.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 12, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) If the Bulls did a sign and trade for Bosh, would they still have cap room to make a max offer to LeBron? Depends on what they gave up in the sign and trade and where the cap actually winds up sitting. If it's a $56 million cap and they were able to move Deng, then yes. They could also possibly pull it off at this level by moving Hinrich or Hinrich + Johnson. If it's a $52 million cap, then if they moved Deng, Gibson, and Johnson, probably yes. If it's a $50 million cap, then no.
  15. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 12, 2010 -> 12:50 PM) Since Mexico is such a s***hole, and has so many issues with corruption and graft, etc., why isn't Amnesty International, the various joke UN commission or any of the other human rights groups going down there and protesting mexico? I guess it is more important to protest America for our transgressions since we are clearly a more eeeeevil place. You should, before you make unsubstantiated assertions, take a moment and learn what "The Google" can be used for. You'll note that only 1 of those refers to the situation along the U.S. border. That's a full page of reports covering basically the last 2 weeks. Take that and apply it to a period of years... The fact that Fox News may not cover what an NGO is doing doesn't mean the NGO isn't doing anything.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) Which is why signing Meche, Guillen, Ankiel, Pods, Bloomquist, Jacobs, etc., nobody knows what the heck someone trained by the vaunted Braves' FO is doing in Moore. I would say he's on VERY VERY thin ice right now. He might get 2011, but that's the absolute deadline for a competitive club. All those decisions have been pretty inexplicable. Some of those decisions make sense...if you go and talk to a team mid-June who needs a leadoff hitter (Braves?) or a team that needs a DH (Mariners) and you say "Hey, I've got this guy having a good season and you have these 2 players in low-A who interest us". It's not exactly like those guys were blocking stud prospects when they signed them. Maybe Jacobs was, but that's about it.
  17. That's a now disappeared facebook post from a Congressional candidate in California.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) Forget that. All of the players on the team should be calling these guys today. With the way that the NBA is set up today, the players are the ones who run the league. If Taj is LeBron's buddy, he should be on the phone non-stop trying to convince him to come here. Guys like Rose and Noah should be recruiting their asses off as well. They should realize that their futures are on the line as well. I'm not sure whether Noah was doing an awesome recruiting job or a horrendous recruiting job while we were in Cleveland. It was one of the two.
  19. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 12, 2010 -> 12:32 PM) I'd hate to pass on Lebron, but you are right. I would add this: Do more than offer max deals, have $$$ quotes from companies willing to endorse them of they come to Chicago. Hell, do everything you can legally do if courtship is required...but I don't care if Wade or Bosh is 3rd on your list of ideals, if they're willing to sign first, you sign that MF that instant.
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 12, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) Interestingly enough: The Bulls have been gearing for this year... or any year with big free agents... for a long time. The thought of bringing Lebron to the Bulls was mouth watering. Then Rose dropped into their laps. And without Rose, I dont think Chicago is in Lebron's top 5. They may have looked longingly towards 2010, but the moves that made them under the cap this year really started after they had Rose, when they moved Nocioni's contract for Miller and then let Gordon walk for nothing.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) If Soria's hurt....their whole future is riding on Greinke, Moustakas, Hosmer, Hochevar, Billy Butler, but Butler, he's not even close to a superstar, he's more like DeJesus....solid, above average MLB player, but not much above that mean, especially when you consider the numbers put up at 1B/DH/LF. Come on Caulfield...the Royals future isn't riding with anyone on the ballclub right now. If they're smart, their future is riding on dealing those guys before they become FA's and trying to load up on the next generation of draft picks.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) 7IP 0R 4H 0BB 6K That's nice. It would be really nice to get one player out of the Swisher deal, especially a starting pitcher. His GO/AO rate has shot up quite a bit in his last few starts as well.
