  1. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 12, 2010 -> 11:02 AM) Also, to me if the Bulls are put in the dream situation where they have their pick of Lebron or Wade it's Lebron everyday and twice on Sunday, he's the best player in the NBA BTW, I should re-state this. The right move for the Bulls is not to prioritize. The right move for the Bulls is to call up the agent of Lebron, Wade, and Bosh the second you're allowed to make an offer and offer a max deal to each one of them. Start the recruiting process after that. But if Chris Bosh is ready to sign with you 10 seconds into the FA period, and Lebron wants to take 4 weeks to make his decision...you sign Bosh and you walk away 100% content. Ditto Wade. You do not wait and risk walking away with nothing.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2010 -> 12:18 PM) Wow, they are dead if Soria falls apart. Soria for Jenks. Get it done KW!
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 11, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) Yup. You calculate it by taking a batter's weighted on base average (wOBA) and converting it to runs produced on offense. Then you take UZR and convert it into runs saved on defense. Add them together, add the replacement level production, add a position adjustment value, and you have your runs above replacement. Every 10 runs = 1 win share. Rios has a 1.8 WAR right now, meaning he has produced/saved 18 runs above replacement level production. You know what really bothers me about WAR? It's the 10 runs/win. Think about it, you have all these complicated numbers calculated out to 3 or 4 significant figures. OPS of 1.012, wOBA of 0.352, UZR numbers of 10.5, on each of those you're calculating and probably keeping more significant figures to calculate runs saved. Then, you just slap a single significant figure on it, 10 runs/win, and voila. Really, it's not 9.453 runs/win? It's exactly 10.0000, in every circumstance, in every season?
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 12, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) Shocking news alert: Cost estimates were wrong Prepare for more of these stories as this thing kicks into gear. Yea, as I noted in the Rep thread, if you read the fine print, Rep. Lewis requested a cost estimate assuming that Congress would act to remove some of the cost-control measures, and that produced a higher cost estimate.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) That isn't even close to how much this thing has cost so far. Well, if you count personal damages sure, but BP's liability on those is limited to $75 million total.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 12, 2010 -> 12:04 AM) will be considered the greatest golfer ever. Really? Despite Jack's Major's record?
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 12, 2010 -> 09:01 AM) He won't be cheaper, has more injury issues, and isn't as good. Lebron is the best player in the NBA and if the Bulls can get them, they should do it at all costs. Just from a business point of view, adding him is worth >$100 million in the value of the franchise almost instantly.
  8. You're going to be disappointed with the tourist bus/walking tours, more than likely.
  9. So, basically, Lewis asked them to produce an estimate if Congress votes to weaken the cost controls, and it turns out that it costs more money if they do that? What a scoop.
  10. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 11, 2010 -> 07:29 PM) Typical bulls*** move by MLB. Supposedly the AAA park that sits 18,000 in Buffalo was available those days. The smart thing to do would have been to move the series there, I'm sure they could probably sell it out. But of course, Selig has to go for the cash grab and have it in Philly. Same situation as Astros/Cubs in Milwaukee two years ago. Yeah, if there's one team that doesn't need the money, its...Torotno?

  12. QUOTE (The Gooch @ May 11, 2010 -> 06:49 PM) Please explain... In exchange for getting a major peace treaty with a country in the middle east (i.e. imagine a peace deal with Iran involving full inspections of all their nuclear facilities and normalized trade and travel relations), if all I had to do was cover up some illegal activities by the Russians that I'm using as a negotiating tool, I'd do the exact same thing. That kind of peace treaty could be a world-changing event. Re-make the face of an entire region. Once you start having to torture people and have additional people eliminated to protect the coverup though, that's where I drew the line.
  13. I don't know if the conclusions are right...but the idea of Nate Silver calculating a "Value Over Replacement Judge" (VORJ) is staggeringly beautiful.
  14. QUOTE (The Gooch @ May 11, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) I don't think that he is wrong. The president covering all of this up and trying to contain him is wrong. He is just doing what the government won't do. And I never want the snipers to get him because I don't feel remorse for anyone that he is after. If he was hurting innocent people that would be another story, but these guys deserve what they get. Bah, up unto the point that the President ordered her tortured, I thought she was 100% correct.
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 11, 2010 -> 06:18 PM) I can appreciate your raitionale, but I think Jenks is on the market and has been He's probably been on the market for the last 2+ years. I doubt anyone has been interested.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 11, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) Tax bills in 2009 at lowest level since 1950 So what exactly are those Tea Partiers protesting exactly? Link (Note for Kap and 2k5. This post is taken from a liberal blog. Ergo, based on previously set discussion standards, you should take everything in it to be incorrect and assume that BS is 100% right).
  17. If it does come down to us being sellers...I think we target low a-ball, recent draftee kinds of guys. High risk, high reward, but if they're far enough away from the big leagues, there's probably legitimate value to be stolen from teams.
  18. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 11, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) Beckham was playing a position he was not accoustomed to and did fairly well. Castro is thought of as a raw SS..I think he will replace Ramirez who will move to first to replace Lee after this season or Soriano will replace Lee. Really? That would be an odd scenario. Could see it happening, just surprising and odd.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 11, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) A sleepwalking Q is still better than 35% of most opposing hitters. Stop confusing "Juan Pierre" with Opposing hitters.
  20. QUOTE (hawksox13 @ May 11, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) I guess my biggest question on this signing was whether or not it may have been a sign or clue that something bigger and more concrete than just giving Bobby a couple of days off from the closer role was coming. Charlotte had an open roster spot after Cassel and De Aza went to the DL, and Erick Threets, who was the LH setup man, is also on the DL.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 11, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) He's slowly coming around. .273/.385/.794 and 3 RBIs in the last 7 days That's not awake for Q.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 11, 2010 -> 04:56 PM) The Sox will be in serious trouble if the team collapses. The one guy missing from your list is Rios...who I think is the key guy if you're going to do the firesale.
