Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) He's been ok from 3pt this year, so he's more useful than the great white DNP. Let's hope the Noah injury doesn't become something more serious. -
QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) I dunno about that one Balta - Is the family stupid to let that happen or? Lol, I mean, I enjoyed it - but seemed like the family was laughing and letting there pet go face this huge thing (bear?) Thanks for the vid If I had a cat that decided to challenge a bear...I wouldn't be running out to try to rescue the cat, I'd be cowering in fear of the bear.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) Something big happened in Baghdad today. That's only really big based on the last 12 months standard. That's puny compared to the last 5 years.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) They must not believe that many in that group are very good, and hoping that by brining in masses of mediocrity, that someone catches lightning in a bottle. How do you catch lightning in a bottle if there's such a big logjam that none of them ever play?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) Damon's a DH and nothing more. Having him in the OF scares me. But...there are more than a few teams out there who Damon in one of the corner OF spots would be an upgrade. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense for him to sign as a DH if he can still find someone to pay him to play the field; you'd be paying that premium price for a guy who can still occasionally catch the ball.

Tim Tebow to appear in anti-abortion Super Bowl ad
Balta1701 replied to Balta1701's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Soxy @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) Ultimately that's what bothers me about this. It assumes that women make this choice so flippantly that a celebrity could change their mind. Of the women I've known to have an abortion all undertook it seriously, with great thought. This isn't something that people decide based on a commercial or celebrity. To me, it's offensive that people think most women would undergo an abortion without any serious consideration. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) In fact I do. I think a lot of young women think of it as a simple procedure, and only later reflect on the decision they made. Studies have shown that women who have abortions succomb to depression and anxiety after the fact, sometimes long after the fact. Adding yet another reminder that it's a serious choice isn't a horrible thing IMO. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) There is a portion of the population that views abortion as more or less the last step in birth control. I don't know how significant it is, but it exists. Apropos of nothing...if the names were taken off of these 3 replies, could you pick out the woman from the men? -
Just to change topics a bit, I get the feeling, between this attack, the general sense of things overseas, and the Brits raising their terror alert level without discussing why, that there's at least a belief that something big is in the works for the near future.

Tim Tebow to appear in anti-abortion Super Bowl ad
Balta1701 replied to Balta1701's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 12:44 PM) We'll have to see what the ad says before we can conclude that it's advocating a specific position in this debate. Clearly she's on one side, and she's advocating HER belief that the life of HER baby is important enough to risk HER own life. I don't think that means she's on the "abortion is always wrong no matter what" side. She might be, and the ad might have that message, but at this point we don't know. I guess I just see a difference between making people aware that it's a serious choice with serious consequences (including possibly killing Jesus II), versus claiming that all abortion supporters are murderers. Do you believe that a substantial amount of people believe it is not a serious choice? -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 12:34 PM) $105,000 / inning pitched That's not that much more than Dreifort.

A group of scientists were planning a meeting at my former school to discuss how California would deal with what used to be likely a 1000 year storm event, which may wind up being much more likely due to climate change. About a dozen of them had to cancel their attendance because of mudslides due to torrential rains.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) With Peyton obviously unavailable and Brady, Rivers, & Big Ben turning down invites due to injury, your 2010 AFC Pro Bowl quarterbacks are Matt Schaub, Vince Young & David Garrard. Now Schaub did have a hell of a year (and won me some $$$ in FF), but Young & Garrard as Pro Bowl QBs??? Ouch. Not like anyone watches the game anyway though. I'm actually feeling already like the Pro bowl is more interesting/watchable this year just because it's before the Super Bowl. Usually I just shut down on football after the Super Bowl, this year I may well tune in.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 10:15 AM) If it isn't him, then he isn't claiming it. But I will tell, you what. I want to make sure from now on that you never blame a parent company of anyone or anything that happens, which by the way is EXACTLY what you have been preaching about with your irrational fear of foreigners involved in campaigns nationally. It really is an interesting look into the modern Conservative psychology how either all of the credit/blame goes 100% to the top or 0%, there's no possibility for gaining any understanding by actually evaluating the exact organizational relationships and having anything in-the-middle.

QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 10:13 AM) Even if he is hurt, he has a whole two weeks to get some rest and get ready. One could have said that about the bye that the Saints already had.

QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 10:11 AM) Are you out of your mind??? The Cell is not exactly the old Tiger Stadium... Damon is one of the most consistent/productive players in MLB: Basically, he's put up an .820 OPS and a 110 OPS+ over the past decade with a .360ish OBP. I'll grant you he's consistent. But he's no where near "One of the most productive players in MLB". If no one's out there giving him that kind of money than he's not going to get it.

Kap and 2k5 can ignore this because it comes from a blog and no one with any expertise ever does that, but here's Prof. Cole's argument that it's not even UBL on the tape.

Watched "Watchmen" over the weekend. Never read the graphic novel version. Could see how a fan of the novel could really enjoy the movie, but knowing nothing about it, the movie was somewhat slow for me. Having to tell like 5+ origin stories really seemed to hurt it.

Welcome home Freddo.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 11:07 PM) Drew Brees looked like s***. This has to be the worry for the Saints. I haven't seen the guy who dismantled the Pats since that game, IIRC. Wondering if he's hurting somewhere.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 09:45 PM) Damon has to have bigger offers out there than that. I'm not sure I'd pay him more than the other available DH's if he doesn't have the Yankee Stadium to help his bat.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 08:10 PM) i am hoping beckham can put up a .850 ops If we're hoping, I'm hoping Rios and/or Teahen could as well. Rios is only what, 2 years removed from that?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) And what exactly has the Haitian government been able to do when compared to what the US government did? I'd like to make a joke but I still don't think it's appropriate.
