QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 06:08 PM) It worked out so well with Tiennamen Square. So, we should have helped overthrow the Chinese government in 89?
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) And Andruw Jones and Mark Kotsay are light years faster of course... It's not like you're replacing him with anybody that much faster. Then bring in Hudson.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) Ozzie goes a hell of a lot faster than KW in my mind. Just feel that Ozzie was way more involved with personel decisions this year as usual. This is not KW's usual "creative" offseason other than the Teahan acquisition which IMO... saves him this year if we suck again. I hope our pitching all around pitches well (some guys hopefully have career years I.E. 2005) cause we might be in alot of 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 ball games. Kenny's job is to make decisions he thinks are best roster-wise. If he decides its best to listen to Ozzie, and Ozzie is blatantly wrong, then it's KW who takes the blame there. He better be expecting 30+ HR from Jones if this is gonna work.

QUOTE (b-Rye @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) That dont make any sense. 13 pitchers + 9 starting hitters = 3 guys on bench... so Jones starts, Kotsay, Vizquel, Castro is your bench. It makes as much sense as anything else we've heard about this spot.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) Also, the whole notion of "holding Ozzie accountable by giving him the team he wants" seems wrong-headed. Who cares about holding Ozzie accountable? Is the idea that ownership can feel better about themselves if and when they fire him? Really, if they go with this and they wind up missing the playoffs with the #12 offense in the AL, they both ought to go. They're sticking their necks out on what looks like an obvious mistake, and if it winds up being a mistake, well, there's little excuse.

I just wanted to note that.

Giambi re-signs with the Rockies, 1 year deal pending Physical.

QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) My problem with homemade pizza is that every sauce I've tried has been bland and crappy. I do like that I can go overboard on the cheese, though. If you're doing homemade Pizza, I think you have to go homemade sauce too.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) If I remember Ill definitely try. Id rather make it on Are You Smarter Than A 5th grader. That show is an easy $500k, just dont get greedy and go for the $1mil, those questions are impossible. Even Ken Jennings missed. Some of us may have actually gone for tryouts for that show. They're not looking for people who might actually win it.

You know, I haven't found too many all-time games on MLBNetwork that I haven't been able to turn away from, but 1991 game 6 is doing it for me.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) I think Thome has too long of a swing to be an effective part time hitter.... It depends on what we're talking about as part time. Part time as in an NL style pinch hitter who gets an at bat a game, no, because of how streaky he is; he does his big damage in spurts. Part time as in playing 3-4 days a week, could possibly work.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) + 2 I may enjoy all kinds of pizza, but nothing compares to a good stuffed or deep dish pizza. This sounds like me. I have nothing against other styles, many can be very well done. But a loaded Chicago Style Pizza, correctly done, that's about the top of my list.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) And I am sure that Fox has no enemies who wouldn't be willing to exploit those exact same fears during an election... And yet...it hasn't happened yet. Fascinating.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) I think someone said he either just had, or is having, Tommy John Surgery. Is about to have. He will miss at least the entire 2010 season. However, he only has 2 years of MLB service time, so worst case scenario if he can come back in 2011, he'd be arbitration-eligible and under their control for a couple years. He was non-tendered. He was also reportedly stabbed a month ago in the Dominican Republic.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Because we all know that Muslims don't get people excited at all... Or are the instances of Muslims being targeted that are trumpeted all of the time in this very thread not true or relevant? They're only targeted if they're not rich enough to own part of Fox.

At least, aside from speed skating, now I don't have any reason to switch the TV to NBC for a long time. Sunday night football in the fall. Otherwise, they don't have any major sport I care about, there's no show on there I have any interest in, and I don't need to watch their news when I have other choices.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) Honestly it is much easier to manipulate peoples xenophobia's and racism than anything. If you start screaming about non-white, non-American's being behind something, there will be enough of the population who will be upset by it. Besides, it is not like foreign powers trying to manipulate our politics would even be new. So basically, you're arguing that the people who the xenophobes already support can do just about anything, like have their private news network owned by a Saudi Prince, but if there were another party, they'd get tons of crap if the same thing happened.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 11:17 AM) Not any different than the leaders of the green movement is getting f***ing rich off of it... So, in other words, you now agree that no one will have any problem with ads sponsored indirectly by foreign governments.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 11:13 AM) And it gives all of the more reason for one side to exploit those donors... So, if someone were to point out that Prince Bin-Talal owns 8% of newscorp, you think that'd make people stop watching, or question why that network's official policy is that there's no such thing as climate change? Somehow, I doubt it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) I am saying you can't have it both ways. Everyone screams that Wal-Mart is anti-competitive because they come in and undercut the current set up, but that the Federal Government is just doing us a favor by lowering prices. No, we scream that Walmart is anti-competitive because they achieve many of those gains by pushing the law so far that everyone loses. They push labor laws so far that they keep getting fines that are just small enough to not matter, they push their employees onto the public dime for Health Care because their pay is so low, they skirt environmental laws and labor laws by manufacturing everything in China, and they're more than happy to use their lobbyists to protect those arrangements.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 12:58 AM) Who was that all in the band? Thought I saw Ben Harper, Billy Gibbons, Beck, and Elvis Costello (?), fronted by Will Ferrerll/Ronnie Van Zandt/Gene "More Cowbell" Frenkel. Looked like Coco could pick it a bit. I thought that was Elvis at first too, but on a closer look it was just Jimmy Vivino.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) And it won't take about 15 seconds to figure out who exactly that is, and exploit the hell out of it by the other side? Betcha can't guess who the largest shareholder in Newscorp is outside of the Murdoch family.
