I am struggling to see how Robert’s injury impacted either of those guys. Vaughn was up before Robert was hurt. Sheets had seemingly very little to do with CF? He got called up because Vaughn was on the COVID list, but kept his spot because Yermin had lost the DH role.

Every part of this is actually true.

Technically this was apparently true last year too.

And the strategy they employed in 1994-1995 right up to the point it was declared illegal.

Well, a week would still be an improvement over 43 days.

HOF voting/discussion getting increasingly vitriolic/polarized

6 time all star, 3 times finishing in 2nd in the Cy behind Randy and Johan. This is a HoF career from the numbers. -
I am genuinely surprised that it took the players this long to have a response ready, even given a holiday. I wonder if there was genuine debate amongst them how to respond to that last proposal - maybe some of them wanting to respond in a way that shows they felt disrespected by the offer.

So the only Boras pitcher I can think of who extended before FA was Strasburg, he signed a 7/$175 deal with a couple opt outs. Hard to see Cease not taking a direct path to FA.

Do teams still have to wait for an assistant coach to be out of the playoffs before offering them a job?
-
If this ends with a court ordering them back to playing under the old CBA (as happened in 1995), the court might scale it to "how much of the season is left" but the court wouldn't rewrite that line.
-
Well, the White Sox are currently $13 million below the (Previous CBA) luxury tax line. Iglesias earned $3.5 million last year, Simmons $10.5 million. So right now, your actual RF has to earn between $2.5 million and $9 million to stay under that line.

This is also a whoopin'.

That post fake punt thing just made no sense, that was the Cowboys being stupid again. They weren’t going to snap the ball to their punter with no QB on the field. Half their team was standing there staring at the sidelines, the punter wandered from the QB spot to a slot receiver spot and seemed to have no idea what he was doing there. Seriously those screwups in that game were all the Cowboys. You want to complain about the ignored whistle in the Raiders game you have a point, but those Cowboys plays were just dumb by the cowboys. If you need every second then you can’t rely on the speed of a ref running 25 yards and then maneuvering through your O line with no hole made for him. If you haven’t practiced that, then don’t call a QB run up the middle! If you’re trying to pull off a trick play like that then every single person needs to know exactly what to do and you have to think through how to make it work correctly with the rules.

No. Jake Burger taking over 2b because of an injury is not more likely to cause Jake Burger to take over 2b because of an injury.
-
No that’s on Dak. The Ref has to touch the ball by rule, which means he needs a path through the line. The ball was in position because Dak gave the ball to the center, not the ref himself. That said, the bigger mistake was not running towards the sideline. You have to run out of bounds there and I think he had a shot.

I think 2021 was still down. Lots of teams had attendance restrictions early in the year, including the White Sox. There is probably an expectation that 2022 returns to the pre-COVID revenue trend (assuming an agreement happens and no games are lost).
-
The other part to think about is injury. Right now, Leury is the starting 2b, he has a big injury history, and he also is the backup for SS where Anderson usually has an injury every year. Presumably they still want to add someone at 2b, but even if they do that, an injury to that player, Leury, Moncada, Garcia, Anderson, or Romy creates a need for a backup IF, and I bet that several of those guys will have IL stints at some point. If Burger played there for 10 games, his defense is unlikely to cost them the division, and that depth could be useful.
-
This…doesn’t seem true? Something slightly odd happened in the year after 2019 that is important for revenue.

This…is a whoopin’.

Well, according to Jerry Reinsdorf, the plan should be “Finish in second place every single year because your fans will say ‘Wow, we got a shot. We’re in it!’ But there’s always the carrot left.”

While I get the desire for more pitching, one big problem with this setup is that it leaves the White Sox very right handed, unless Sheets hits like 45 home runs and becomes an everyday player. Vulnerable to righty starters and especially to bullpen righties. Another big issue is probably defense. Especially if Robert has any loss of speed from his injury, that’s a very weak OF. Burger might be tolerable at 2b, but it seems hard to expect plus defense from him there. Anderson is generally ok on defense but not great, Abreu is ok but slow, Moncada is quite good, and Grandal is wearing down over time. That’s a lot of middling at best defenders and some really weak ones. The right answer should be “we saved tons of money in ‘17-‘19 and are selling a lot more tickets so it’s time to actually pay for a roster that can win by filling several positions” but…

So I assume you will be boycotting all baseball until all the employees are unionized?

Because I am a believer in fair labor relations and oppose unfair labor practices when I see them.

Actually…yes. The MLBPA has a $500 million grievance case pending in the courts against the owners claiming they refused to negotiate in good faith during the 2020 COVID protocol dispute. Filed earlier this year - also notable since it was filed about 10 months after the agreement. Interestingly, the 1994 strike ended after a judge found that the owners…failed to bargain in good faith. Gosh that feels weirdly familiar.
